end of the weekend routine in progress and I still need to meet the campfire requirement--it is my turn after all |
I have occassion to add to "Pass the Write-Baton" tonight I added "a gift of coffee on a cold day." |
Sweet! The plant where I work was closed early due to storm warnings. I work the nightshift and since there wasn't really much work to do the crew were sent home at lunch time (10:00 pm). Basically, we all got a snow day This gives me the opportunity to start writing earlier this weekend. Question and answer; long answer for ongoing campfire: Do you want me to write another story, based in that world, perhaps from one of the children's perspectives? I was thinking, maybe a bed time story explaining day and night.--Sounds perfect Actually, the campfire does allow for Sci-Fi--the genre listing is Action/Adventure/Mythology/Sci-fi and if there had been a fourth slot I would have put Fantasy---so somewhere on this world is a fantastic place where fantasy creatures abound with their humanoid fantasy races. If you wish, you can add images to your story--maybe depict a story in a graphic book effect--or in my case I could do a coloring book effect--(although there is limited character space and the max may need to be extended to accommodate images). You got me thinking in images when you said you were in painting mode The Fantasy/Sci-Fi/Mythology aspect of this world will be anything you wish to bring in. It is a big world and many parts of it are unaware of each other--also the sci-fi aspect that can be introduced is that different times--literally different time/space zones--coexist on this world--Sea monsters really do exist when you sail over the edge of one zone into another. Remember how Cloud Atlas covered many people reincarnated over many periods of time? Well, this world takes things a bit further--instead of an elderman telling stories around a central fire in a fairly cronological order; we have each central character of each story of what ever time frame they exist within telling their story--this campfire will be an anthology of all the stories spoken or written or lived on this world told in a Mythological voice. Metaphor is the mythology tool--The world, Thrigga, is the mother, the smaller moon, Irridis, is her child, the larger moon, Rasim, is the father of the smaller moon after the incidental capture, struggle and rape of the mother... If you notice I have used names from at least three if not four cultures found on our world--Thrigga (Norse); Irridis (possibly Greek but definately made up); Ramis (has an Arabic/Egyptian sound to it although it too was made up). My creation of the universe/cosmos myth has at its core the Big Bang Theory that we have grown up with in our science classes at school. The sun is named Elpsa (taken from the label on a box of stapels). Rasdi is totally made up--but has an Arabic sound. Unes, Stresin, and Pontris are equally all made up. Unes has a northeastern European sound to it; while, Stresin sounds Germanic; and Pontris is a bit Latinish. Being English speaking Americans we are exposed to many language root words from every culture around the world. So it isn't hard to understand how when generating just 'thought up from the top of our heads' place and character names we can get such a variety of different sounding cultural names. Pater, by the way is Latin for father, I think---I need to look it up lmao. |
The first workday of the week went well for my part of it, anyway. I've added to the crockpot for later's breakfast. Time for bed and then to work later this afternoon. goodnight/morning all February 19, 2014 at 3:47pm I'm up 2 hours earlier than I'd like; not sure why; something about work, maybe. My supervisor instructed me to do something that seemed counter to what we have been doing at the end of the night. I questioned her to make sure I heard her right. She repeated her instructions and then followed me to make sure I did as she told me. When I woke up, this was the first thing on my mind, so I'm sure this incident is wrong somehow. At least it shows on camera that she and I discussed the matter for several minutes and she supervised me through the task--It will show that I hesitated and questioned again before completing the task and she nodded her head and states she has made an executive decision. The question on my mind when I woke was, "What is she trying to hide?" Especially since I know, there was nothing incriminating before I performed her instructions; but the act itself could be very incriminating. There's a subplot in there somewhere--gotta be |
End of a nice long 4 day weekend. Lunches and laundry are done. I go to bed and later today go to work--a short 3 day work week. I like it. No writing tonight. Been too busy getting ready for the work week as short as it will be, it still takes about the same amount of prep. lol However, this has been a productive week. I have written two freewrites over a period of nearly 2 hours and 1300-1400 words overall. For me that is a good weekend of writing. |
I wrote for 1 hour 33 minutes and 31 secs and banged out about 1,050 words from edited campfire intro to the end of the first turn story myth.
From this morning's activities, it appears that if I have an incentive, a direction or purpose to write then I will. I think this campfire will inspire me to get into the practice of creating once again. I like it that I wrote for so long and hadn't realized it until I came to the end of my story telling spurt and looked at the clock. All I will say is, "Sweet!" and I've a big smile on my face when I say it. |
I have finished my grocery shoping so now I have lunches for the next couple weeks; and I only went over budget by $20.00. The price of gas also went up--6¢. Now if my pay check would just go up I'd be more comfortable wrote for 26-1/2 minutes and 300 words written "as time will allow a free write" of "freewrites: prompts, scenes, or teasers" |
By writing in my blog everyday for the last 14 days, I have started to form a habit. Before, I may have logged onto WDC everyday but I didn't necessarily write anything. My 'habit' was undocumented as far as what the general public of WDC could see. And before that, my habit was to ignore the internet and not log onto any site, which placed me in a small world of actual encounters--very small, since I generally never leave my home except to go to work or grocery shop. I suppose what I am alluding to is that some habits are easier to form than others. For instance, the habit of Not Doing is way easier to follow than a habit of Just Doing. Also, habits are formed in a repetitive step wise fashion; for the most part. So, since my first time logging onto WDC after a very long time of not logging on I have been forming a new habit. (Note there are prices or costs or consequences (what have you) to the habit of inactivity. My costs were that my account was demoted from a Blue case to Yellow; I lost touch with some members whom I deemed to be worth keeping in touch; and, I lost touch with writing in general.) This new habit is, of course, to write something everyday--preferrably writing something relating to a story or book or poem; but, if all I can do is write in my blog then that counts too. The next step will be to perform timed freewrites on a scheduled basis: for instance, I will start easy, which equates to a better chance of accomplishment. I will commit to free writing for one half hour every weekend--this will produce less than a 1,000 words of unstructured writing one day of three. Now this free writing is not to include my blog entry--so in effect I will free write and while placing the link into my blog I will also commit to writing something bloggish. This will be difficult to do because the temptation will be to free write in my blog and totally skip a step in my habits. I did say that Not Doing was easier than Doing. I need my writing to become additive so trading one for the other is really not accomplishing my goals. Since coming back to WDC, I have ascertained that weekends are really the only time I will have to write anything more than a couple sentences or incomplete thoughts. My work week consists of 10.5 hours + 45 minutes to an hour travel time (depending on weather, traffic, and errands) and by the time I'm wound down enough to really work on writing it is bed time. Therefore, I will maintain my blog, which normally equates to a sentence or two and/or an incomplete thought to the work week, and do my serious writing on the weekend. I am hoping to be able to buckle down at least one half hour in a 72 hour time period to free write. When I become consistant with this I will add time--then I will go for word count. My next step will be to get a minimum of 1,500 words per weekend. That really only equates to about two hours of writing time on a single topic--if I'm having to work to get the words out on paper it takes longer. When my writing flows and the story jumps onto the page I can easily get a completed 3,000 to 4,000 word rough draft/freewrite out in an enjoyable 6 to 8 hour session. I know, because I have done this with my Malyn character--my DnD Russianisk Barbarian woman whom I've become so close to over the years. We still meet and talk, tho not so much anymore. I wish to change this relationship with the characters in my head. I miss them and I need them to talk to me if I am ever going to be a writer again. Besides, they tell the most wonderful stories. (I wrote in my blog for about an hour and fifteen minutes and wrote out a little over 600 words during that time. So 1000 words in a half hour is a bit of an exaggeration on my part. 480-500 words per half hour/forty-five minutes, I think is possible. ) |
Boiled Pork and Cabbage: left over pork roast cut into chunks and sprinkled with Johnnys Salt, cut cabbage like making coleslaw sprinkle with ground Cayenne, dice raw carrots. Place all ingredients into pot of boiling water. Lower heat but continue to boil with lid on pot until carrots and cabbage are tender. Pour enough of the boiling liquid into a cup of noodles (any flavor you prefer) following instructions for noodles. (If a large pot of Pork and cabbage may need to heat up more than 1 cup of noodles) After Noodles are soft and ready to eat pour cup(s) of noodles into Pork and cabbage pot. Stir and dish up the meal---mmmmmmm Note: Adjust amount of cayenne used for personal taste, but you need at least a little bit for flavor. |
52 degrees F and raining when I went to work and 40 degrees F when I drove home. I filled both tanks on my truck; bought a couple 12oz HEETs (one for each tank) and two new windshield wipers--wiped out my monthly transportation budget in 20 minutes. I might have something left for groceries after all the bills are taken care of as long as I concentrate on lunches for work only. Heck of a time to be broke when I've got a four day weekend--plant is closed on President's Day--lmao--they must think they are a bank or a division of the U.S.Postal service. This is the first place I've ever worked which has President's Day off But hey, I will take it and smile about it cuz it is a paid holiday. |
When I get up later this afternoon it will be payday Story idea while at work: Echoes of a Life--viewing photos and portraits in an old house--living room, hallway, bedroom Whose home is it and what do the pictures mean? |
Less than a week ago it was -16 degrees F--Last Wednesday actually--this last weekend it's been gradually warming and snowing; accummulated around a foot of snow on my porch--then this morning it is +40 degrees F and raining!!! I can't keep up with the changes lol |
Had a reality check of the worst kind at work today. I really hate it when that happens Take care and may your road lead to only good places. I will try to enter a blog everyday this week as an exercise in consistancy. If I am consistant in my availability to write there is a chance that I will actually do just that-- |
My early weekend is nearly over. Lunches are finished in the crockpot and laundry is done. Tomorrow I start a long work week--five tens and it is a payday week. Working Sunday will ensure that this payday is a full payday. Sunday is the last day of the pay period and I need to work it to make up for the canceled workday Thursday due to a power outage. |

Yep--pretty darn cold Had to start my car every 2-1/2 hours and let it run for 15-20 minutes while at work because there was no place to plug in a block heater. On the way home I was afraid my gas line was freezing--the truck acted like it was starved for gas a couple times--had to pull to the side of the road and let it run for a bit before continuing home. -16 + 45mph=??? degrees windchill? Whatever it equals; my truck didn't like it much. And Thursday promises to be colder??? O Boy. 3:32pm Update for today: No Work--power is out on the job site, so the work day has been rescheduled for Sunday Night with the reasoning that temperatures will be on the rise and it is the last day of the week to make-up the hours missed today. |
Tuesday at work proved to be infinitely more interesting than Monday--I was exhausted by the time I got home. Up now and getting ready for the adventures that Wednesday will bring. What will Mr. Wizard pull out of the hat today for this little Turtle? |
Interesting day at work--overall, glad I'm home and getting ready for bed |
