You are what you write. Illusion and Reality...I reside in between. Where are you?
UNDERSTAND THAT REDIRECTING CIVILIZATION is a major undertaking. You can write volumes about it and who will listen? But the energy that goes for that purpose cannot be withdrawn. You know that.

Blog City image small I know it’s the 23rd and the prompt says the 26th for today (?) I’m sticking with this one... (Since I don’t have television, and it’s been years.)

Prompt: Dwight D. Eisenhower said, “The supreme quality for leadership is unquestionably integrity. Without it, no real success is possible…” Accordingly, which qualities, do you think, are necessary and how much of an important role should integrity play in good leadership?

INTEGRITY: honor, honesty, uprightness, wholeness, completeness, soundness.
HONESTY: being honest, truthfull, adherence to what is right, candor, frankness

From these definitions it seems that our leaders, at least most of them, have lost or never had the supreme quality for leadership. When they do not tell the truth or omit to tell the truth, we have a serious problem.

No matter how much pain it causes, I think the financial system of most of the world must be revised, adjusted, or absolutely replaced. The debt can never be paid back and making more war is not the solution. Right now I see craziness and illusions. Everything is fake and cannot carry the label of integrity.

Honest people don't hide their deeds.
EMILY BRONTE, Wuthering Heights

Honesty is such a lonely word.
Everyone is so untrue.
Honesty is hardly ever heard.
And mostly what I need from you.

BILLY JOEL, "Honesty"

There are a few good men. They need to be sorted out and supported.

Blog City image small Prompt: Sue Erikson Bloland the integrative psychotherapist said, “The pursuit of fame is basically a tragic pursuit.” Can it be that people pursue fame to use it as a successful defense against shame or feelings of inadequacy, even after realizing it could be tragic?

I don’t think people begin by ‘pursuing fame. They do something that is recognized, acknowledged, admired, envied...you name it. They get noticed and note that the notice part almost always happens within the media---television, magazines, social media on the internet. Once it happens for some folks, their ego takes over and they crave more attention, then they pursue fame. For others the fame brings extraordinary income and a change of their life style, which requires more income, which demands that the ‘fame’ be sustained and expanded. Then you begin to see those tragic results.

But that’ s not true for everyone who becomes famous. There are heroes who show courage or compassion and they are famous for their five minutes on television and one news article. Others create art or music or athletic skill that is beyond most human’s ability. They pursue their skill or art, often challenging themselves to do better, and become famous without realizing it is happening. Because we admire them, their fame is sustained, sometime for a lifetime.

The tragic pursuits sometimes fade quickly and others slowly disintegrate. The tragic fame is chronicled in daily photos and speculative stories that feed the consuming masses. Not the most attractive part of our civilization.

As Gloria Swanson said, “I am big. It's the pictures that got small.”

Rudolph Valentino said, “A man should control his life. Mine is controlling me.”

Blog City image small What's the last thing you'll do? Have you stepped out of your comfort zone lately? Tell us about it.

If you were reading my blog on Dec. 8, I stepped out of my comfort zone to write about Fukushima and why the American EPA shut down the radiation monitoring stations.

Then on Dec. 9, I wrote about how the Regan administration supported Islamic Fundamentalism starting in 1984.

So American dollars support a destructive religious movement to bring down the Soviet Union, a movement that just keeps growing.
The government hides any evidence of Fukushima radiation reaching the west coast of the United States.

These were important events that affect millions of lives. For me it is not comfortable because so many words are viewed as ‘red flags’. What I’m doing is trying to increase awareness and people’s knowledge about the world that surrounds us.

Blog City image small Prompt: Your local electronics store has 3 new products: Time machine, a door that goes anywhere you want or a helmet that lets you see the future. You can only afford one. Which one do you choose?

“Know what you don’t know. Then find answers in that area of mystery.”
If we take a minute to step back and reflect, we can readily realize the world is literally going berzerk, with Syria as merely the ignition to a far uglier situation which has the potential to destroy our lovely, peaceful planet.

I think my choice would be the TIME MACHINE...

Because there is much of our history that is cloudy and needs to be referenced to actual events, not the historian’s version.
Experiencing time as an observer only, no participation with changing anything. Bringing back video and images with sound recording would be very informative.

Can you hear all the objections and protests against such a scandalous idea? We just quietly say, “The truth shall prevail.”

Blog City image small Prompt: Dream catchers catch bad dreams. Do you believe this? Do you have any dream catchers? I am a big fan of dream catchers!

Dream catchers work if a person believes that they work. The belief in the device sets up a positive attitude about dreams, good or bad, and some folks begin to remember more.

I think the dreams are always there whether you remember or not. A dream can be vivid and clear upon waking, and five minutes later it is gone, dissolved. Dream catchers sometimes help with the recall.

For the last couple of months, I have been going to work in my dreams. Usually as a teacher or director with adult students that only need guidance and an occasional lecture. In dream life, I am still teaching actors and dancers what to do, or creating projects for them.

There seems to be minor conflicts the usual dramas between the players. (some things never change) Pieces remembered indicate that this is an on-going process that I rejoin every night.

I have to really focus and set my mind to remember before I fall asleep. If I’m reading or working on something else before sleep, the memory is only fuzzy, ‘I’ve been working’ idea but little else.

What’s it all mean? I have no idea, and I don’t worry about it any longer. I only sleep five to six hours a night, waking about 4am most mornings. The big cruise ship tenders start warming up about then with their roaring engines and my boat rocks from their wake. That’s enough to send dreams into neverland.

I hope you catch some dreams and enjoy them as much as I do.

Blog City image small Prompt: Does a human being’s urge to compete have anything to do with his narcissism, and why do people enjoy competitions so much? What are your thoughts on the subject?

Have you ever watched a group of birds, or puppies, or cats, or coyotes, or human children? They all, at some time in their development, pretend to fight, wrestle, race, and watch each other, testing strength and comparing themselves against the older and more experienced.

What is this behavior---instinctual preparation for survival, for propagation of their species, for the pure enjoyment of physical activity? Or all of that, plus further development leads to competing for a mate. They all do it, each in their own way, preening, posing, agressively approaching, and for some actual fighting for dominance. I believe competition is more than an urge. It is an innate drive in all beings, thanks to our DNA.

Highly intellectual, educated human beings move on to levels of competition that are beyond reason. We wish they were more like the puppies.

Blog City image small Prompt: Could terrorism--local, national, or international-have roots in a person’s or a group’s cultural disorientation and psychological instability? What do you think starts this type of crazy behavior?

It didn’t happen by accident or simple cultural disorientation. This idea of terrorism has been deliberate, planned and funded over many years. It changes names and nationalities. Following is a short snip from recent history. The intention has not changed, it is still going on, they just don’t like to tell you about it. And yes, it is crazy behavior, but how far up the chain of command to you go to say where it starts?

The Regan Administration Supports “Islamic Fundamentalism”
Pakistan’s ISI was used as a “go-between” CIA covert support to the Mujahideen in Afghanistan operated indirectly through the Pakistani ISI, --i.e. the CIA did not channel its support directly to the Mujahideen. In other words, for these covert operations to be ‘successful”, Washington was careful not to reveal the ultimate objective of the “jihad”, which consisted in destroying the Soviet Union.

In December 1984, the Sharia Law (Islamic jurisprudence) was established in Pakistan following a rigged referendum launched by President Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq. Barely a few months later , in March 1985, President Ronald Reagan issued National Security Decision Directive 166 (NSDD 166), which authorized “stepped-up covert military aid to the Mujahideen” as well as support to religious indoctrination.

The imposition of the Sharia in Pakistan and the promotion of “radical Islam” was a deliberate US policy serving American geopolitical interests in South Asia, Central Asia and the Middle East. Many present-day “Islamic fundamentalist organizations” in the Middle East and Central Asia were directly or indirectly the product of US covert support and financing, often channeled through foundations from Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States. Missions from the Wahhabi sect of conservative Islam in Saudi Arabia were put in charge of running the CIA sponsored madrassas in Northern Pakistan.

Under NSDD 166, a series of covert CIS-IDI operations was launched.
The US supplied weapons to the Islamic brigades through the IDL CIA and ISI officials would meet at ISI headquarters in Rawalpindi to coordinate US support to the Mujahideen. Under NSDD 166, the procurement of US weapons to the Islamic insurgents increased from 10,000 tons of arms and ammunition in 1983 to 65,000 tons annually by 1987, “In addition to arms, training, extensive military equipment including military satellite maps and sate-of-the-art communications equipment? (University Wire, 7 May 2002)

No different today. Follow the money and the political agendas. Terrorism stimulates war. Societies are controlled (to protect them?) and who benefits? Sovereign countries are destroyed. Who benefits?

If you are afraid, what are you willing to give up to feel safe? Then who benefits?

Blog City image small Prompt: What was your favorite book and favorite movie when you were ten years old?

I can’t remember any books. I went to the library every week for two or three to read. I remember the Little Women series, but not the age I was. Maybe I was reading books for 12 year olds. Mostly listened to radio serial dramas. (Captain Midnight, comes to mind) I remember getting my hands on a copy of The Sinking of the Titanic. I read every issue of National Geographic from cover to cover.

For movies, I wan’t allowed to see the grown-up films, but I remember The Yearling, The Bandit of Sherwood Forest, Harvey Girls, Song of the South. It also cost money, of which we had very limited funds for entertainment.

Now that I look back, I am shocked at the huge number of films that were produced every year in the 40’s. I remember My Friend Flicka, Black Beauty,---Margret O'Brian, Elizabeth Taylor, who were close to my age, along with Micky Rooney. Going to the movies was a real experience, rare and much appreciated.

The War was over and everything was different in 1946.
I don;t think we’ve seen those days again.

Blog City image small Prompt: Why do people ghost? Can ghosting have a good reason? How does it feel to be ghosted?
Ghosting is when someone that you believe cares about you disappears on you without any form of explanation, message, phone call or email.

I have been ghosted more than once.

1. She volunteered at the local community theater where I was a director. Linda worked several shows backstage helping with props and snacks. (she was overweight) She was funny and friendly with everyone, worked hard and we all hung out a lot. I don’t remember, but I think she lost a job and couldn’t find a new job. I helped several months with extra cash for her rent and bought lots of meals. She never paid any of the borrowed money back and one day, just disappeared. I never saw her again.

2. In Canada I worked for a joint American-Canadian advertising agency. This lady was the supervisor or the Canadian office. She was another good friend who worked hard on many projects. At some point the agency began losing sales, so the owner decided to close it down. This woman, I’ll call her Liz. was encouraged to start her own agency service with a little office and a file full of contacts and possible clients. I loaned her about $4,000 to get it all started. And shortly after that she disappeared. I think she had one child and no husband. Nothing had been paid on her startup arrangements, she just left. And never heard from or about her again.

3. A few others, but usually about borrowed money or books, or several of my paintings taken to sell. The people just move on without any contact.

I’m a lot more cautious now. My bicycle is old and not worth stealing. And tools get loaned with great care. I refuse to loan or give cash, it causes too many problems. I’ve helped folks get jobs and give lots of references. I always wonder what happened to my ghosts, I liked them as friends. I’m sorry they couldn’t be honest. Part of the texture of the human experience.

Blog City image small Prompt: Reading a book and listening to a story is good entertainment. Does it take the place of TV Shows? Share your thoughts.

Almost always when I am house-sitting and there is television, I get bored very quickly and impatient with the commercials that take up half the time. I like the few movie channels that do not have commercial breaks. American television is mostly fear or fluff. Very disappointing.

OTHERWISE a good book on Kindle is the best entertainment.
