The part where Megan meets her ancestor is amazing. I'm pleased you included it as I think I'd go and meet my ancestors if I went back in time to see what they were like. Even better was the touching scene at the end where Arizona Charlie is born. He sounds such a character. I bet Megan will be wanting to time travel to see him grown up in the Wild West Show now!

I'm pleased that things worked out well for Quentin in the end - he had a tough life. Hopefully he'll have a good career in the Navy and work his way up. Maybe he will even become and officer and get to attend balls. Thank goodness he found Megan and Jennifer to help him, even if they did tease him!

A gripping read. The worldbuilding elements worked well and the descriptions made the reader feel that the story was very real. Particularly poignant was the part of the story where Lady Northspire dies of childbirth in front of her daughter, entrusting to her the responsibility to name her baby brother as he last wish.

Review of Jacks are Wild

This humorous poem made me recall how many children's' nursery rhymes actually have their origins in ditties about real life characters. Many of the rhymes were poking fun at political figures, as we still do today, so I thought that the part about Little Jack Horner going into politics was perfect. The poem echoed the format of a nursery rhyme effectively too.

I liked the part with the hat pin. I have a hat pin with my Regency outfit to make sure my bonnet doesn't fly off if there's a gust of wind and I've accidentally pricked my finger with it like Megan does here. I think they would be a good weapon too, as was the candle snuffer as a makeshift weapon for showing that pirate who came for them not to mess with the heroes and heroines of this story. The pirates sound a nasty bunch and I agree that it's a shame Jack Sparrow and his friends didn't turn up. I wonder what the pirate boy is doing on the passenger ship after the Navy sorted out his pirate friends...

Wow, I loved the exciting appearance of the pirates- I wonder what will happen next. The Pirates of the Caribbean references introduced this nicely. I just hope things won’t end up like Titanic! Jennifer will find it hard to keep behaving like a Regency lady in front of Bradley’s mother when they meet I guess.

What a cute story! The way you made this Halloween tale fun and sweet was lovely. The bear coming to life wanting to join his human girl at the party was a nice idea and I liked the way he winked at Mandy at the end. I wonder if she ever found out about his adventures and Tabatha?

One way to introduce the events that happened at the stadium in the run up to the opening of the novel might be to have Janel dream about them, reliving the moment up until the bullet hit her? She already mentions near the start of chapter 4 that she keeps dreaming about the events before the bullet hit her.
I enjoyed reading about the differences between alien and human culture and how the aliens are adapting to mundane human life. Your writing got inside their thoughts in a realistic way. I especially liked your portrayal of how life feels for Jenaya being blind.
I think that the idea of plague spread by a biological weapon is topical and would resonate with many people in these Covid times!

Review of Simply Rain
Review by HollyMerry

I admired how you conveyed the sense of changes in the weather in this poem using a tight structure of short lines. The poem moves from before the storm, describing the lovely ‘fragrant scent’ of the summer garden, through to the storm breaking and then leaving a rainbow in its wake. My favourite lines were evoking the sound and turbulence of the storm:
Crashing bashing,
Sonic rumbles,
Flashing light,
Rain tumbles.

The description of the meal made my mouth water - it sounds delicious. Also I liked the colourful description of the ship. It was another nice scene where you compared past and present and mentioned aspects of history like WW1 and 2 and Titanic that the Regency men don't know about. I thought that the part where Megan is told she should be an actress and responds by saying she wants tp play the part of Mrs Miles Dawson was cute!

It sounds perfect leaving the cute puppies with Vicki, I was wondering who was looking after them but they will be in good hands with her and enjoy watching her baking the nice treats. The bridal shower was a nice part of the story and I liked the pretty dress that Megan wears. Getting a copy of Pride and Prejudice from Jane Austen - wow! I hope she signed it for them, it would be worth enough to make the ladies rich if they sold it in the modern day but I bet they couldn't bring themselves to part with it. I know I couldn't!

Jennifer is so spirited and saucy - I love her greeting to Sharon where she makes it clear how insincerely the woman loved her husband coming after Bradley so soon after her died. The puppies are full of mischief chewing everything and sound quite a handful! They will be missed when the women leave on their ship.

A beautifully written poem about how the seasons were created. I loved how you took on the mythic origins of how the season began and infused them with your own original creation story involving four fairies. Another aspect of the poem that struck me as original was that Winter and Autumn most have the sympathy of the reader which was nice to see as they're often portrayed as less pleasant than Spring and Summer. The poem was well written and had a nice sense of flow.

Review of Autumn on Earth

It's such a shame you won't be writing more poetry as this was lovely. I liked the way in which you organised it with a stanza for each month of autumn. Also I enjoyed the way that you used the senses to bring the poem to life. I could smell the herbs and spices and taste the food associated with autumn. Both smell and taste are often neglected in writing so it was lovely you made them so key here.

The puppies are SO cute and a lot of fun, I'm pleased they came into the story. I wonder what's up with the moonstone making it flash? I totally get why the women are pleased to see the back of trouble maker Rainey.

What a lovely chapter. I liked the descriptions of London and the ladies making plans for their wedding, planning what pets they will have after they're married. It sounds like a fairytale. It was nice that Jane came into the story again too and spoke about her brother Henry publishing her novels.
The ladies still miss their Diet Pepsi and Dr Pepper I see! Jennifer seems outspoken and ruffles a few feathers in Regency polite society. I can see why Bradley finds her refreshing.

Review of The Ranger

A well written, believable story that makes the reader feel part of the scene through the vivid descriptions and realistic dialogue. David’s thoughts made the reader understand his point of view and he came across as a skilful, thoughtful warrior. His care for his horse and sword exemplified these traits. Despite being cut to fit a word limit this wasn’t something that was obvious in the abridged version.

At least Jennifer has got to the bottom of why she kept getting distracted by Calin when she was in love with Bradley - she was under a curse! I'm glad that the moonstone broke so that Jennifer and Megan could uncover the underhand deeds of Calin and Rainey. At least the heroines will be able to enjoy the exciting prospect of shopping for their weddings now.

Oh no, the moonstone broke! It was nicely timed having Bradley there though to tell Jennifer that she is home when she worries she can't get back to her modern home. It sounded like quite a cat fight with Rainey and added a lot of drama! I liked the mention of her being seen as a witch and talking of fairies and fighting in battles - I imagine she travelled back in time to the medieval era for this?

Review of Swinging Fairy

A lovely fantasy scene. The woodland sound so pretty and the cat and rabbit are cute, perfect companions for the red haired fairy on her swing. I love the sense of mischievous, child-like delight that come through about her as she plays on her swing and the nice pictures accompanying the poem.

A powerful, beautiful and moving poem. I applaud the way that you have chosen such a vital message as the need to save our planet as your subject. The imagery of the beauty of the earth and its nurturing mother-like relationship with humans was moving and I hope that it will encourage readers to realise how important it is to protect the earth, especially at the end of the poem when the lines mention how people are destroying the earth with their rubbish and reckless use of natural resources.

I loved the part where the Regency men are asking questions about modern life and appliances like microwaves and TVs and the modern ladies are having to explain about them. It would be interesting if the Regency characters travelled forward in time - I think they'd be in for a few surprises. The divorce paper being sent to Megan in the Regency times from her modern husband was a surprise!

This was so lovely - I'd been waiting and dreading the modern women telling their Regency boyfriends that they were from the future. The dialogue here was well done and made it sound so real and their thoughts and reactions were believable. I liked the idea that the modern women might be thought of as witches. Also it was nice when the Regency men started thinking that some things like travel were better in modern days and asking lots of questions about modern life. I wish they could tell Jane she would be famous too!

The world of this story was well imagined and I liked the original blend of medieval fantasy elements in an undersea setting. The opening dropping the reader straight into the action before giving a description of the main characters and their backstory was well done and made sure that the reader's attention was gripped by the opening scene. The fact that Seira wasn't initially keen on mating Barra makes the reader interested to discover how they fall in love as they clearly are in the opening scene.

Review of MediEvils
Review by HollyMerry
Rated: 13+ | (4.5)
This tale had the tone of being spoken by a medieval bard. I liked the way in which historical details were introduced in a natural way as if they were related by someone from the medieval era trying to explain the events to a modern listener. The story felt immersive due to the detailed descriptions, sensory details and rendering of the dialect of the characters. It was easy to understand and the vampire plot was chilling.
