What a lovely story! Princess Ginger is a lovely festive name, it makes me think of gingerbread. I liked how kind she was delivering baskets of food, toys and other gifts to the poor. The story about the wolves and how she saves them was tense and full of feeling, especially as one of the wolves has pups. The kitten was very sweet and I loved the ball scene where Ginger dances with her prine.

Review of Wandering Souls

A well-written dark tale. I liked the fact that it was told from the point of view of a character who was dead and the story was so vividly described that this perspective felt very real and drew me into the story as I read it.

What a pretty scene, I would love to go to a unicorn wedding like this. I thought that Hercules the baby unicorn carrying a basket of flowers was so cute, I would also love to see unicorns dressed in nice wedding outfits!

A well-written and quick moving piece that held my attention. I loved the pithy dialogue and how you conveyed the characters of Kyo and the princess. The setting was well done and this is an intriguing story. Best of luck with finishing it.

I loved reading this story. Seattle was such a likable and interesting character, her life as a photographer to the stars sounded amazing enough, but then she went into the wilds and met Big Foot and a handsome Native American werewolf! This part of the story was super exciting and all the details made it feel real. A nicely written piece, I only wish it was longer!!!

Review of Ink and Graphite

A thought-provoking and well written musing. I thought that the imagery of ink and graphite was very creative and fitted well with the metaphors for regret and inspiration that you applied them to.

This story reminds me of the Little Mermaid except that instead of stealing the princess's voice the ugly witches steals her beauty and makes her ugly. The idea of the spell falling on her as she smells the beautiful flowers is very original and memorable. The story line was exciting and convincing with lots of nice fantasy creatures.

Fantastic! A gripping story opening. The idea of there being a five eyed wolf was very creative and captured my attention. I particularly admire the opening of this piece where Jezzabelle runs from the wolves because you used the senses and short sentences and paragraphs well to create a sense of a dramatic chase. This story has a lot of potential and I hope that you will write more.

Review of Cotton Candy

A funny poem that would bring a smile to readers of all ages. Dragons are famously greedy but it is a great twist on this idea to make them greedy for eating sweets. I can quite picture the dragon contentedly scoffing the sweets until he finds it hard to fly!

An amazing summary of attitudes of marriage in Jane Austen's time. Women were treated like flowers with a season and needing tending to find the right marriage. It must have felt restrictive, especially if some poor girl was being pushed to marry a suitor they didn't love. In light of this I can see why Jane's novel where the heroines have their wishes come true when they marry kind and handsome men for love were popular.

Review of Winter Blooming

Beautiful, love the image of a rose that you Centre the poem around. Since the poem is about winter this image appears striking and creates a strong sense of hope and keeping going despite hardship. You integrated the prompt words well.

I loved this poem so much I added it to my favourites to read again. I think I saw the beautiful picture of the princess and her snow white wolves before? It was wonderful to read their lovely, heart-warming story. The image of her walking in the snow with her wolves was so pretty and this was a romantic, happy tale.

A creative and original idea having a clan of cats as the stars of a fantasy adventure tale. The names are brilliant - memorable and funny. I like the way in which you use the senses to bring this piece to life as it makes the reader feel very much part of the scenes that you describe.

A beautiful poem full of seasonal imagery like the pinecones and scarecrow created from gathered items. The part about the dogs dormant by the warm fire was beautiful. I'm pleased that you explained what Quang was as I was going to look it up. The poem was well written and included the prompt words in a natural way.

Review of My dog and I

What a beautiful and heart-warming story about Arie. I can tell what a well loved dog he is and it's lovely of you to share all he means to you and gives with his wonderful doggy company. I especially liked the first line - 'I was sold' which turned on its head the usual image of buying a dog in a way that caught my attention and made me smile. Cleverly done!

An awesome, powerful poem. The story it tells of the wife married to the Black King was gripping and vivid. The opening with the king dead prepared the reader for scenes of hardship and cruelty which emerge as we are told more about the king's character. The repetitions throughout the poem serve to re-inforce his cruel, cold and grasping nature. By the end of the poem I felt pleased that the Black King was dead, especially for his long-suffering wife. The poem opened up questions like how the king died and how the poor woman came to be married to him in the first place.

A lovely story about a modern mermaid. I liked the prompt idea that the story is a way to make people believe in mermaids. There is certainly no denying mermaids are real after this lovely mermaid character heroically rescues the baby whale and gets her picture in the news and on TV. I liked the part where the little girl sees her, takes a photo with her phone and asks if she's Ariel. That is just what a kid would do if they saw a real mermaid today. I am still waiting to see a real mermaid myself though, sigh!

This piece is fascinating. I enjoy reading about different forms of poetry. Am I right in thinking that Elizabeth Barrett Browning also wrote some sonnets using Petrarchan form? I will have to look this up...

Review of Lonely The Dragon
Review by HollyMerry

A well written poem full of possibilities. The characterisation of the rich, immortal dragon who is lonely guarding his treasure in his cave makes for an interesting read. It would make a good opening for a story in which the dragon looks for companionship. The prompt words were naturally integrated into the poem.

I have just finished reading your wonderful book ‘Fade to Black’ and I was impressed by your characterisation of Miranda. You’ll find a review I left of the book on Amazon.

What a lovely idea! I enjoyed reading this piece comparing your life to fairy princesses and talking about what they are like to see what you have in common. The part about the imitation fireplace not needing sweeping and blacking made me smile - Cinderella would have loved a fireplace that needed no cleaning! Pretty princess pictures too.

A wonderfully interesting and well-written story full of fantasy and romance elements. I love the characterisation, especially the scheming Princess Amelia. The magical elements made this an enjoyable read. The ending was a nice twist with the prince marrying Melina on the day he was to marry Amelia.

A wonderful read! I love reading about myths and folklore and I admire how succinctly you covered myths of different origins about a character of the same type. I especially liked the mention of Angus Mac Og who features briefly in my fantasy novels drawn from Celtic myths.
