Musings from my mind
** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only **

I'd kept a paper journal for years, so I thought I'd try this out and see how it works. I must say, I'm rather liking it!! Here's some background stuff. I'm in my 40's, doing the single mom thing with a 10 yo son. My son has ADHD, ODD and was also diagnosed with high functioning autism. He can be a challenge, but he can also be pure joy.

This is my safe place. I come here to vent my frustrations, celebrate my victories, share a recipe or two and make new friends. I like it here. I hope you do too.

Thanks for stopping by,

I'm home with Joe today and yesterday. He has a head cold. He was feeling pretty awful yesterday, and seems to be doing better today. He's still kinda nasal when he talks but at least he's not as lethargic and laying around like he was yesterday.

Since he has so much congestion and can't really smell, I made polish sausage with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. He hates sauerkraut, and I love it. At least he can't smell it!! LOL

Not much else happening around here. Daytime TV is no where near as much fun as it was when I was younger. On the plus side, I took advantage of being out a work and took a 2 mile walk this am. I wish I had time to do that every day, but I don't.

I did buy a mini trampoline that a friend is going to assemble for me. This way I can walk, run or hop on it when the weather won't allow outside activities or when I need to be home. I'm hoping I can get more exercise that way. It will also be good for Joe when he has more energy than he knows what to do with.

That's about it from here. Thanks for stopping by.

I got a call from a lady, said she was doing a survey for my health insurance carrier. I could hardly understand what she said. I detected a strong asian accent. I used to work for a college professor from India, and got very proficient at understanding that dialect. I couldn't pinpoint the ethnicity of this person, all I knew was that she was very hard to understand. She kept saying she wanted to talk to my about my chat. I didn't know what she meant by my chat. Finally I got it...she was saying "my child."

I told her that it was very hard to understand what she was saying. She said that she was from Texas. I have talked with many people from the big T and have never had problems understanding them. I didn't really believe she was calling from there, so I let her go on.

Her first question was who my son's primary care physician was. I told her that if she was calling for my insurance company, then she should know who my son's PCP was. I then told her that I'd be happy to answer general questions about care, but I was not going to give her any of my personal information.

She then said that she wasn't asking for MY personal information, but about my son. I told her I wouldn't give her any of his personal information either. She said, "Well, you can decline. Have a nice evening."

What the heck???? Nice try, moron.

I know, it's been forever since I've blogged. I'm doing well, just kinda busy. Several weeks ago, one of my coworkers was hosting a 65th wedding anniversary party for her parents and invited me to come. Another coworker was requested to sing, and since I like to sing too, I wanted to hear her and when she asked me to come and help her set up her equipment, I just couldn't say no.

It was great! She sang very well. There was also a small band there who played a lot of the old southern gospel songs that I love. They asked my friend to sing their closing song, Amazing Grace, with them. As they were singing, I was standing off stage singing the high tenor part with them The band leader pointed to me and gestured me to come onstage with them!!! So, I joined them!!! It was great!!!

After it was over, and we were packing up, the band leader came up to me and complimented me on my singing. He then said he has a gospel band that was doing a New Year's Eve watchnight service at his church, and he invited me to go hear them.

side note: If you remember, a few blogs back, I had mentioned that I was really missing not being in church, and was praying that God would lead me to the church that He wanted me to be at.

I went to the watchnight service, and they sang so many songs that I love so much. I had a wonderful time, and the people there were so sweet and loving. They weren't pushy and in my face like some do, and they didn't completely ignore me either. It was really what I was looking for.

I went to the next Sunday morning service and once again, really enjoyed myself. I called my mom and explained to her that I had been privately praying for a church, and what had happened. Momma said that it sounded like God has done His part and now I needed to do mine. She was so right.

My only hesitation was that this church was a different denomination that I'm accustomed to. According to my dad, if it's not a church of the denomination that he likes, then to him, it's not really church. I told momma that I didn't really care if the church denomination was The Church of the Three-Eyed Billygoat. I wanted to go where I was welcome and where God showed up. This one works for me!!!

So, I've been attending there ever since, and I love it so much. It's a very small congregation. If they have 25 people show up for worship, they'd consider that a lot. But the people they have are so sweet and so loving, I don't care.

Last week, before the service, the man who was in the band asked me if I would sing with him during the service. We did a couple quick run throughs, and sang What a Day That Will Be. Everyone was so blessed by it, including me. A couple people mentioned that they want me as their song leader. There was a question raised if I should do that or not, because I'm not an official member there. I told them that whatever they decide was fine with me. I don't want to "take over" or cause anyone any problems.

I got a call this week from the lady that leads the worship service. She told me that they had a Board Meeting this week and voted unamiously to allow me to be on their Praise Team even if I'm not an official member as of yet. I was so honored!!!

Also, this week I had a follow up appointment with my surgeon. Last month when I was there, he told me that I could expect to continue being in a cast until March or early April, because the bone in my arm was healing, but very slowly. Since I've been in and out of a cast for almost 2 years now, I didn't consider a couple months more a big deal. I just want my arm to heal, and was happy that it was.

So I go to my appointment, and get the exrays and wait for the doc. The doc comes in and told me that there was significant improvement since my last exrays, to the point that I could come out of the cast and go into a brace!!! WHoooooHoooooo!!!!
I was so happy, I about started to cry! Now, I'm working to get my flexibility back, because my arm has been in a cast for so long.

Joseph had a huge opportunity this week as well. The 5th grade took a field trip to a local camp. They spent 3 days and 2 nights there. I was so concerned that he'd have a bad autistic episode and I would have to come get him. He didn't!!! He had a great time!!! I was very proud of him.

They returned yesterday, so I left work at noon to go meet the buses when they came back and spend the afternoon with Joe. After we left the school, we went to a local car shop because I needed to get my oil changed and transmission serviced. While we were waiting, I got to hear all about what Joe did at camp. After that, we drove into town where his dad met us to pick up Joe for his overnight with his dad. I went and got my haircut, then went to the church to meet with the song leader to go over the songs for this weekend.

We ended up being there for over 2 hours singing, sharing and praying. It was very sweet, and there was such a spirit of love there. I then left the church and headed to the grocery store. I needed to pick up a few things, because before I pick up Joe tonight, I'm going to pick up my nephew who is going to be sleeping over tonight with Joe. My nephew is a big snacker, so I wanted to have a variety of healthy snacks on hand for him.

After that, I went to my neighborlady's house. We had planned for me to come there and visit with her and have coffee. I love my neighborlady. She's in her 70's and was in a band for several years herself, and is an awesome pianist. I shared with her all that had happened, and then we went into her music room and sang and played some more music. I didn't get home last night until almost midnight, which is late for me.

It took me a long time to unwind from the day and go to sleep. Today, I'm sitting here in my jammies having my coffee. I need to do my house work after I take my shower. This evening, I'll pick up Joe and my nephew, then come back and pick up my neighborlady, and go to a benefit concert that the gospel band is going to be playing at. It's for a young girl in a hospital in Miami who is having some severe medical issues and they need help with their medical expenses. I'm looking forward to another night of good music. Tomorrow, there's church service, then returning my nephew to my sister's home.

It's been a few exciting weeks here for me. A lot of good things have happened, and I look forward to many good things to come.

Just in case you're wondering, I'm doing some private blogging lately. I've decided my britches were getting too snug again, so I'm trying to halt that. I've been keeping a private food blog. Believe it or not, it really works. I'll avoid eating things just so I don't have to write it down!!! I'm not comfortable with allowing the entire universe to see my food consumption, so I'll just keep that private. I've been doing it for a week now. I feel much better already, but haven't done it long enough to have the real results show on the scale....but it will happen once my body adjusts. I just don't EVER want to go back to how big I once was. So that's the reason why I've been marking many of my entries private lately. I hope all is well with ya'll and life is being kind to you.
Be well,

It is very interesting to see 'who' your friends are!

(10-16 points) You are Garfield :
You are very comfortable, easy going, and you definitely know how to
have fun but sometimes you take it to an extreme. You always know
what you are doing and you are always in control of your life. Others
may no t see things as you do, but that doesn't mean that you always
have to do what is right. Try to remember, your happy spirit may hurt
you or others.

(17-23 points) You are Snoopy:
You are fun, you are very cool and popular. You always know what's in
and you are never are out of style You are good at knowing how to
satisfy everyone else. You have probably disappeared for a few days
more than once but you always come home with the family values that
you learned . Being married and having children are important to you,
but only after you have had your share of fun times

(24-28 points) You are Elmo :
You have lots of friends and you are also popular, always willing to
give advice and help out a person in need. You are very optimistic
and you always see the bright side of things. Some good advice: try
not to be too much of a dreamer. Dreaming too big could cause many
conflicts in your life.

(29-35 points) You are Sponge Bob Square Pants:
You are the classic person that everyone loves. You are the best
friend that anyone could ever have and never wants to lose. You never
cause harm to anyone and they would never not understand your
feelings. Life is a journey, it's funny and calm for the most part.
Stay away from traitors and jealous people, and you will be stress
free.

(36-43 points) You are Charlie Brown:
You are tender, you fall in love quickly but you are also very
serious about all relationships. You are a family person. You call
your Mom every Sunday. You have many friends and may occasionally
forget a few Birthdays. Don't let your passion confuse you with
reality.

(44-50 points) You are Dexter :
You are smart and definitely a thinker... Every situation is fronted
with a plan. You have a brilliant mind. You demonstrate very strong
family principles. You maintain a stable routine but never ignore a
bad situation when it comes. Try to do less over thinking every once
in a while to spice things up a bit with spontaneity!

I picked Joe up Sunday evening from his dad's. He'd been there a week and a half straight. Since getting him, Joe's been going back and forth between loving, affectionate, can't get enough hugs, angel child and disrespectful, hateful, devil's spawn. He was "unplugged" yesterday, no electronics, etc. Today, he's on "ma'am" restriction. Every, yes EVERY time he speaks to me, it must be followed by ma'am. It upsets me when he speaks to me with such meanness. It's obvious he didn't get much discipline at his dad's. So, I'm having to make up for it and do some de-programming and re-programming. I may have to extend the ma'am restriction a few more days until he gets it. No matter what, you just don't dis momma!!!!!

Yesterday was so sweet at my home. I wasn't able to get Joe many things, so I made sure I got him a few things that he had repeatedly mentioned that he wanted. He was very happy.

I had planned to take Joe to see The Chimpmonks movie and told Joe what time we'd have to leave to get to town to see the movie, and Joe said, "Mom, you did so much for me for Christmas, why don't we just stay home? I don't want you to spend your money on a movie for me." I hugged him and with tears in my eyes, told him that it was his choice if he wanted to go see a movie or not. He said he just wanted to stay home and be together. So that's what we did.

I also got to talk with a few people I love dearly on the phone, friends and family too. All in all, it was a wonderful day. No, it wasn't the "best Christmas ever", and yes, it was very frugal, but it was filled with love, laughter and contentedness, and that, my friends, makes me very rich in heart. I can only hope that all who read this will have experienced the same richness that no amount of money could every buy.

Thanks for coming by,

Hi Everyone! Merry Christmas!!!

I'm working today, well...um...okay, so I'm AT work today, but not much work is gonna get done today. I haven't been writing much lately. I've been having some real funky dreams lately, and most of my creative juices have been spent trying to figure out what they mean.

I got this email today with some humorous phrases, and I thought I'd share them with ya'll for a smile or two. Enjoy!!

Super salad

1 head cauliflower
1 head broccoli
1 c shredded cheese
crumbled bacon
½ c raisins
sunflower seeds
1 small can diced water chestnuts

other things to add if you want
green onions
green pepper
cashews

Sauce-(I make this the night before)
1 cup mayo
1 cup sour cream
1/3 cup sugar

Add sauce just before serving (as much or as little as you like)

I tried this..I left out the raisins and sunflower seeds because I don't care for them. I added green pepper and almond slices. It was very, VERY tasty. I'm thinking it would have also been good with fresh diced apple or pear. Next time, I'll do the cashews instead of the almonds. I put too many almonds in my recipe and ended up hiving because I ate too much salad and am allergic to almonds!!

Enjoy!!!

This way cool thing happened yesterday that I gotta tell ya'll about....

It started a couple months back. A lady that worked with me in my office, (prior to her recent retirement) has a son and daughter in law who are serving in the Army in Iraq. She gave me her son's address so I could write a letter of appreciation to him.

I got a letter back from him yesterday!! Now, it wasn't just the fact that I got a letter back, but the coolest thing was, he gave me the name and address of another buddy he has over there and asked if I'd write a letter to him too!!! How cool is that??

So, I wrote a letter to his friend, and said that if he knows of anyone else who could use a letter of encouragement from "home" to let me know and I'd be glad to write one to them. I love to send and receive handwritten letters, and I guess, ya'll know by now how I feel about writing...lol

I'm just so touched that he didn't want to keep all the "goody" for himself and wanted me to write his buddy too. That totally blows me away. How cool!!!
