Still behind schedule. I've only written 636 words today, but I passed the 3k mark! I will write more today, though! I may skip around again. I'll make everything make sense later... Ivy and I are meeting today to talk about our NaNo novels, and hopefully we'll at least get some motivation and inspiration from each other. It's really tough to write while my husband is on vacation. I want to spend time with him, not at the computer. Plus I didn't get enough sleep last night. Enough excuses, though. Back to writing! Word count so far: 3,006 words |
Well, so far I'm behind. Yesterday I wrote only 1513, and today so far I've written only 857 words. It's early, though, right? I think research can be a good and bad thing during NaNo. You don't want to spend too much time researching background information, but at the same time, it can add to your word count, paraphrasing the research you've found. Today I researched how to test whether blood belongs to a human or animal. I had planned on trying to write one chapter per day. I like short chapters. Every novel I've read has lots of small-ish chapters, instead of 10-12 long ones. So, I was hoping to write one chapter per day and end up with about 30 of them. Well, it's been two days and I have 4 chapters written (and I'm behind in my word count). I think my chapters are a little too short. I think it's going to be a long November... |
They say it's best to start just after midnight, but for two years in a row now, I've fallen asleep before midnight. I did, however, wake pretty early, and managed to write nearly 300 words during my morning coffee. I very much enjoyed this week's pep talk, written by one of my top three writers, Tom Robbins. He gave some really great advice and motivated me to begin writing. Last year I definitely had more of a plan. I had chapter ideas, and a rough outline. This year... not so much. But I think one of the most important things is to just sit down and start writing. I had no idea how to start this morning, but I just sat down and started typing. It worked. Word Count so far: 335 (Hey, it's early! I've got plenty of time!) |
We rented: The Revolting Dead Seed of Chucky (Unrated Version) Cube Zero subHUMAN Puppet Master: The Legacy S•I•C•K• (Serial Insane Clown Killer) The Nun Creepshow 2 We watched three of them so far, actually. Creepshow 2 is pretty much like the first one - 3 creepy tales. The Nun was pretty bad. It wasn't scary at all and in the end, it made no sense. There were huge plot holes, but it was fun to make fun of the film. SICK was probably the worst movie I've ever seen, but I would also buy it if I saw it for $1 or something. The acting was unbelievably bad, the dialogue was insanely terrible, but the plot kind of made sense in the end. The Nun was probably worse, really. It tried to be a good movie and failed miserably, but SICK didn't even try, so it was kind of entertaining. A few of the other films we rented are going to be really bad, I can already tell. Yay for bad horror films! |
In addition to my previous blog, I'd like to share some photos from Saturday's show. If you're not interested in seeing half-naked, hot rockstar boys (and why wouldn't you be???), you can scroll down to the last photo to see my sister and I in our Halloween costumes! (These are from my photo album - "Invalid Item" ) Kinsey https://www.myspace.com/thebandkinsey Invalid Photo #1011611 Kinsey has this college rock vibe to them, similar to perhaps Weezer (back in the day) or even Harvey Danger. They're extremely talented, and I really love their music. Lights Over Ashfield https://www.myspace.com/lightsoverashfield Invalid Photo #1011612 The big thing about LOA is that their songs tell stories. The new one, Annabelle, is about a woman who died prematurely and was buried in her wedding dress. Like their others, it's a great song that instantly sticks in your head. A Utopian Skyline https://www.myspace.com/autopianskyline Invalid Photo #1011613 I don't know exactly how to describe this band. They've got a classic rock feel, yet they have a definite modern quality to them, too. I like them more and more every time I see them perform. Nimbus https://www.myspace.com/nimbus Invalid Photo #1011582 Invalid Photo #1011614 (After Tim took his shirt off) I absolutely love Nimbus. They're my new favorite band. I find myself comparing all my favorites to Muse, and these guys fit in that category, too, though their recorded music does sound more "mainstream rock." Their live performances, though, are incredible, filled with passion and heart. City Sleeps https://www.myspace.com/citysleeps Invalid Photo #1011583 I think it's obvious how I feel about this band, too. The music on their album is sort of radio-friendly, happy rock. Their newer material is faster, harder, and mostly about drugs and other bad things. I love it! And finally - Hope and Despair! poisonivy and I with Nimbus Invalid Photo #1011610 (I'm on the left in white, and Traci is on the right in black) |
Happy Halloween! And Happy 5th Anniversary to Mr. J and me! We're handing out candy with our niece tonight. I'll be dressed as a dead sailor girl, and Mr. J is dressing as a Red Hat Society lady. (Do they have those everywhere? It's a group of women that wear red hats and usually purple, too.) We rented 8 horror films yesterday and watched 2 of them last night. They were terrible! I hope everyone else has a fun Halloween! |
Show = incredible I put just a few photos in my WDC rock photo album: Invalid Photo #1011542 The Drama Club Invalid Photo #1011541 Elliot of City Sleeps Invalid Photo #1011547 Adriel of City Sleeps You can see more of the photos here (if you're interested): The Drama Club - http://s9.photobucket.com/albums/a65/wordofmouthpa/The%20Drama%20Club/ City Sleeps - http://s9.photobucket.com/albums/a65/wordofmouthpa/City%20Sleeps/ I'm going to see them again tonight and tomorrow! Yay! |
This would be the soundtrack: Opening Credits: "Circus Freak Love Triangle" by Hierosonic https://www.myspace.com/hierosonic I will forever be infatuated with the music of this band. I love them and everything they do. Waking Up: "Track 5" by Muse https://www.myspace.com/muse Apparently my media player couldn't find the info for this album. Probably because it's a burned copy, like most of my CDs. This is the song where he sings, "This is the last time I'll abandon you." (I'm really bad with remembering track titles) Oh my God, I love Muse. First Day of School: "Jack and Sally Montage" by Danny Elfman https://www.myspace.com/nightmare3d I could listen to the Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack until the end of time and still love it. Danny Elfman is a freaking genius! I mean, just listen to the theme to Beetlejuice! Falling in Love: "Quiet Voices" by Lola Ray https://www.myspace.com/lolaray Lola Ray makes me go *sigh* Death (to some one else): "Wheelchair" by Ajar https://www.myspace.com/ajarrocks I really miss Ajar. It's been 3 weeks, four days and 17 hours since I've seen them. That's entirely too long. I think we should all just move in together already. Whaddya say, guys? Fight Song: "Where Love Won't Go" by The Mint https://www.myspace.com/themintonline One of the more recent additions to my collection, I was astounded by their performance at the Verus Music Festival, as was everyone else present, I believe. Their drummer looks very much like a friend of mine. I was a little distracted while they played, trying to figure out if it really was the same guy. It wasn't. Failure: "Freak" by 722 https://www.myspace.com/722music Like everyone else, I miss them. I still listen to their CD all the time. They loved the review Mr. J wrote, and he still talks about that. Life: "Wooly Muffler" by Harvey Danger https://www.myspace.com/hdanger "All I ever wanted to be was a wooly muffler on your naked neck. Double wrap me when you're cold." I had this complete obsession with this album when I discovered it years ago. Come to think of it, the obsession never really stopped... One of the best albums ever. Driving: "Number One Blind" by Veruca Salt https://www.myspace.com/verucasalt Louise gave me a purple rose once. Flashback: "I Own You" by Protein Where are these guys and why don't they make music anymore? "I own you, baby. It'll always be that way." Victory: "House of Wolves" by My Chemical Romance https://www.myspace.com/mychemicalromance I still feel cheated by those two shows that got cancelled. Hey, I understand food poisoning, but still... These boys make me weak in the knees. End: "I Can't Make You Love Me by City Sleeps https://www.myspace.com/citysleeps I've been waiting over two years for their album that was just released, and it was worth the wait. I can't wait to see them again. I'm literally counting the hours (only about 3, actually). For me, good music gives me chills. All these songs and all these bands do just that. Currently there are only 20 bands in my library. That's due partly to my computer getting f***ed up over and over and I keep losing everything. But it's also because I don't listen to music that doesn't give me chills. |
I'm feeling a little stressed already today, for a number of reasons. First, I woke up with a headache. Is it normal to get headaches in your sleep? I have a vertabra in my neck that slips out of place and gives me migraines. It started bothering me last week, and normally it goes away after a few days. Well, it's back again. NaNo starts in 7 days! Yikes! I have my basic plot, but I have no idea who my characters are, and I don't have enough of the plot planned out to write 50k, I'm sure. I have a lot of work to do. My mood lately has been distracting me and making me extremely unmotivated, and I'm working hard to stop that. I need to get back up to speed on the magazine. I'm also trying to raise gps for my upgrade. I'd love to be able to raise a TON of gps so that I can get more than 2 months at a time, so I don't have to worry about it for a while. The Premium Membership can be a tad difficult to keep up with, but it's SO worth it! Hmmm... I had my morning coffee, and now I feel my headache slipping away! Maybe it was caffeine deficiency? That would be a little weird... Halloween's coming up! Hooray! I'm going to see City Sleeps and The Drama Club tonight! I know I've talked about them before here, but City Sleeps is one of my all-time favorite bands. I really think they're going to be huge very soon. They're playing a few shows in PA this week (of course, I'm going to all of them!), then throughout the US, followed by a short tour through Europe with Funeral for a Friend. They just released their album on Trustkill Records: You can listen to samples there, or go to https://www.myspace.com/citysleeps to hear a few songs. Check them out, and if you like their music, please consider getting their album! It's very inexpensive for a full-length album, and I know they could use the support. Alright, back to work. Have a great weekend everyone! |
So I thought I had this great idea for my NaNo novel all planned out. I came up with the idea a few months ago. Well, the problem with coming up with a plot that far in advance is that you can get bored with it. Which I have. So, I have a new plot forming in my mind, inspired by this:
The idea keeps getting bigger and more complex (which is good), and I almost couldn't sleep last night with my mind exploring possibilities for it. I've been experimenting adding chapters to interactive stories for the past few days. (I've done 21 chapters so far!) They're really awesome writing exercises. I personally think they're a great way to gear up for NaNo! Plus you can now link chapter entries! For instance, I wrote "Invalid Chapter" in "Invalid Item" At first I was kind of scared about writing in interactives. I get worried that the owner of one isn't going to like what I add. I got over that, though. I think interactive owners are just thrilled to have someone add to their story, (I should know, I have one, too - "Invalid Item" ) and like I said, it's a good exercise coming up with new chapters. Now I have to come up with a title for my NaNo novel! It's a super-natural mystery! |
