Getting to know me. |
One of the goals I set for myself this year was to create a blog. There are a lot of reasons I wanted to do this. 1. I think a blog will encourage me to write more often. 2. I want people to get to know me better, and hopefully I'll know more about you from your comments. The grammar won't be perfect, but a blog is a more relaxed type of writing, I think. I want to share my, and Sir Trevor's, adventures and lots of other things too! |
** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** Thank you Whata SpoonStealer ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() DAY 2224 December 21, 2018 Prompt: Discuss your plans for this winter solstice? Are you going to watch the meteor shower? It will be cloudy and raining here so the meteor shower won't be visible. Nor will the full moon. I'm probably going to be taking a lot of Tylenol Arthritis Strength as I try to wrap Christmas gifts. About four or five years ago I had a severe arthritis flare which began on the 21st of December and there was a full moon. By Christmas Day I could barely move and I was in a lot of pain. Ever since that Christmas, I've been recording my flares. You guessed it they all coincided with a full moon. (Do not discuss this theory with a doctor.) ![]() The solstice, Yule, and Christmas are all Pagan celebrations. Perhaps I need to ignore the doctors and their costly drugs and research some Pagan remedies. So these are my plans for the solstice, but I'd much rather be watching the meteor shower. River ![]() |

If so, how do you change your mood? Although winter has not officially arrived in my little corner of ![]() The temperature rises and falls creating chaos on the roads. This morning we are at the freezing point and sleet is pouring from the sky. Large trucks have been roaring by since 3:00 am. spreading sand over the icy roads. Bah Hum Bug? Yes, I do get into that mood. How do I get out of it? There is beauty in nature even on the nastiest days. I have only to look out my patio doors to see the tree branches coated with shimmering ice or thick with heavy snow. Woodpeckers tapping on a suet block, colourful birds at the feeder, squirrels chasing each other around, and best of all deer eating apples and carrots on my patio. I also like to cuddle up in bed with a good book until my eyes grow heavy and I fall into a long winter's nap. ![]() River ![]() |

** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** } Thank you Whata SpoonStealer ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() DAY 2002 May 10, 2018 Prompt You are thrown back into your past, but you find it totally different than what you recall. Are you happy or do you try to solve it and put your past back as it was? If I was thrown back into my past, I wouldn't try to change it. If I were to change any one thing it could change the present dramatically. Or perhaps I wouldn't be able to change anything at all and would end up living through the horror of the past again. Here is an item I wrote that shows what I think could happen.

** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** Thank you Whata SpoonStealer ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() DAY 1968 April 6, 2018 Prompt: 50 years, a lot has happened in the technology field. What change has made you the happiest in the past 50 years? The internet has made me the happiest. The ability to re-connect with old friends and cousins that have scattered with the four winds, through social media, is amazing. I like to keep up with everyone while having my morning coffee on FaceBook. Email is a blessing. Communication is so much faster than it was when I had to depend on the post office. Google is a wonderful tool for finding information. Fifty years ago I had to depend on a cumbersome set of encyclopedias. There are so many websites I can join that help with my hobbies and interests. And, where would I be without WdC? River ![]() |

** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** Thank you Whata SpoonStealer ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() DAY 1905 February 2, 2018 The groundhog in Pennsylvania was given the name "Punxsutawney Phil, Seer of Seers, Sage of Sages, Prognosticator of Prognosticators, and Weather Prophet Extraordinary'' and his hometown thus called the "Weather Capital of the World.'' Phil wants a starring role in your blog, short story or poem. Have fun. Groundhog Day In my region, it is cold and sunny today. I don't think any self-respecting, relatively sane, groundhog will pop his head out to look for his shadow. If he did, he would see his shadow, though. It has been my experience, living in Canada, that on February 2nd there will be at least six more weeks of winter either way. The legend is "Punxsutawney Phil, Seer of Seers, Sage of Sages, Prognosticator of Prognosticators, and Weather Prophet Extraordinary''sees his shadow on Groundhog Day, then that means there are six more weeks of winter. If not, an early spring. I suppose we should respect poor old Phil's wisdom as he must be at least 132 years old, according to the Inner Circle of the Groundhog Club in Punxsutawney. That's pretty old considering most groundhogs only live 6-8 years. Still, Groundhog Day is an amusing little tradition in the midst of winter. Happy Groundhog Day! River ![]() |
** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** Thank you Whata SpoonStealer ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() DAY 1874 January 2, 2018 What is/ was your favorite part of the New Year celebrations? fireworks, music, highlights of the past year, getting together with friends? Getting together with friends was my happiest time this year. New Year's was very quiet at my house. Frigid temperatures kept me inside snuggled under a furry throw New Year's Eve. I had a glass of wine and was in bed well before midnight. I did watch some of the highlights of 2017, but found that a bit depressing! Our town doesn't have fireworks. That would definitely be my favourite part, though. Happy New Year Everybody! River ![]() |
** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** Thank you Whata SpoonStealer ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() DAY 1846 December 5th, 2017 On this day in 1848 US President Polk triggers Gold Rush of 1849 by confirming gold discovery in California. What type of physical commodity (not something found on the internet) do you think would trigger that kind of reaction in today's world? Would you be tempted to join the masses and go for it or would you be a bystander? I think as the world wakes up and realizes how much the earth is changing due to pollution, climate change, and global warming the masses will be looking for clean energy. I foresee a big explosion in the sale of electric cars which would eliminate exhaust fumes. Instead of gas stations, every few miles there would be charging stations. Electric cars don't need gas or oil. More and more people will be using electricity or solar panels to heat their homes; once again reducing the need for oil. I would join the masses in an attempt to heal Mother Earth through cleaner energy. We already have enough bystanders! River ![]() |

And don't be scared, ever." - Toni Morrison. What are your thoughts on this quote? ![]() Even if you research the subject thoroughly, you wouldn't have the experience or the feelings to make your story believable. Your work would be criticized and lead to bad reviews. You could also lose your reputation as an author. In my opinion, the quote is bad advice. River ![]() |
