Free to Write

What will you come up with?

It's been a while, but I think I'm ready to resurrect something old. Forever ago, before life attacked and made me an absentee member for years, I ran a free-writing activity on the site.

The idea is simple. Periodically, I will post a short phrase as a prompt. Using that phrase as the jumping off point, write for about five minutes. It will be easiest if you reply to the posted prompt so there is a thread to follow. Feel free to just post your writing in the forum instead of creating an item to post. Because this is a free-writing activity, you're welcome to write poetry if that's what your five minutes gives you.

This isn't a contest. There won't be deadlines or requirements or prizes. If a phrase doesn't catch your imagination, you don't have to write; if it does, I hope that you do. If your imagination is very caught, I hope that you come back and post any finished poetry or prose that used a prompt as a jumping off point.

If I'm the only person who participates, it will give me some incentive to write.

One note: If you feel that too long has passed since the last time I posted a prompt, you may post one of your own, but I ask that you don't post more than one a day.

Second note: Please feel free to clean up your writing before you post. Spell check is a wonderful thing. I know I rely on it. But it's not absolutely necessary.

Bear in mind the rating of the forum. If you have come up with a response that is inappropriate to that rating, please be aware that I will delete your post.
