You pull with all your might and manage to pry the cover open a tiny bit, just enough to squeeze in. You feel the heavy thud of the book landing next to you, and you know that you would have been killed instantly had you been underneath it. You hear the distinctive sound of a zipper, and almost all the light inside the backpack vanishes. Then Jeremy lifts his backpack, hoisting it onto his back, and the angle he's carrying it at causes the textbook to press you between the cover and the pages of the notebook. You cry out in pain, pushing back with all of your strength. You're beginning to feel like this was a mistake. Surprisingly, though, you're actually managing to keep the pressure of the book off of yourself. You're not totally sure how you're managing this, but the effort of pushing back is starting to make your arms hurt. The backpack bounces, Jeremy's footsteps causing the book to pound against you with incredible force. Your sore arms begin to shake, and then they give out. You grunt as you are sandwiched between the cover and the first page. You lungs are drained as the force of the impact causes you to exhale sharply, and you struggle to catch your breath. Just when you manage to gasp, another step hits, and you exhale again. Spots dance in the corners of your vision, and you feebly try to get out of the book.
Slam!
Another impact hits, timed perfectly to deprive you of air. Exhausted and suffocating, you pass out.
Where do you wake up?
