The answer came quick for Phineas, as when he looked around he quickly noticed that most of the seats were being taken up. Realizing that he had to make a choice of where to sit before he was forced into a potentially bad seating area, Phineas looked around for the perfect place to seat himself.
Passing through the train cars, Phineas saw most of the seats filled up already, talking to each other about the year ahead. As he walked past the Tresfleur sisters chatting with each other though, he saw two perfect seat right behind them, near a window so he could watch the scenery pass by.
Walking over to the seat closest to the window, Phineas lifted his luggage up and stored it away, but as he began to sit down, he heard a surprisingly loud voice, and one he recognized.
“Uh... this seat’s already taken Phineas... but the one next to it’s open if you wanna sit here!”
Stopping and rising back up, Phineas turned around to see Mei Oshida sitting down, a miniature piece of luggage next to her and a small (though for her it was rather large) slice of apple on her lap. Mei was an Inchling, standing at only 5 inches tall, leaving her hard to notice.
Phineas knew quite a bit about her though, due to them sharing the Kunok Quarters dorm in the past two years. She was a rather meek student, but she did find a tiny bit of pride in being at the Citadel. Inchling wizards were somewhat rare, and most were self-taught, but she found her way into the Citadel and is trying her best to finish her courses.
“Sorry, I just wanted to find a good place to sit before all the good seats were taken.” Phineas admitted, as he got into the other, empty seat. Wouldn’t want to sit with someone like Matilda after all...”
“Yeah, I get it. I heard last year, she managed to get into some serious trouble by pouring a sleep potion into Ms. Langtree’s coffee. Talk about crazy...”
Taking a bite into her apple slice, Phineas finally noticed her bottom, which was a bit more rounded than it was last year. For her size, Mei was rather average in weight, but now she seemed to have developed a more rounded pair of thighs. It was probably only a few ounces of weight, but it managed to get Phineas to look at her for a few seconds, before he heard another voice.
“Oh man, free seat! Outta the way!”
Turning around to check the voice, Phineas saw that it had come from Heather Bricoletti. Heather was from the same friend group as Matilda, and alongside Gird all made up a group known as the “Problem Children”. Heather in particular was a rather toned Elf, with pointed ears and a surprisingly well-tanned skin, though her breasts did have a bit of weight to them.
“Uh, hold on. Someone’s already sitting there...” Phineas said, not really wanting Mei to get in trouble with someone like Heather.
“Oh really? Looks empty to me...” Heather said, as she tried passing by Phineas. As she did, she found herself held in place by him, and as she tried fighting it, she finally noticed Mei, holding onto her luggage.
“Yeah, this seats taken. Find somewhere else to sit...”
“Do you really wanna try me, you two?” Heather replied back, still struggling. “When I say a seat is empty, it means I’m taking it. I swear, if you try to stop me-“
“Can you please be a bit more quiet?” May Tresfleur said, rising up and turning around in her seat as she looked down on the commotion. “I’m trying to read this book on plant grow-“
“Oh shut it!”
Breaking free from Phineas, Heather tried pushing the book straight into May’s face, only for the druidess to duck before the book could hit her. Seeing it fly off onto the floor and get stomped on by multiple senior students heading to the buffet car, May got ready to pick a fight, cracking her knuckles as she looked at Heather.
“If I were any other type of wizard, I’d probably just cast a spell on you... but since that book was a thousand dollars, your about to find out why they say Druids like to get dirty...”
“We should probably get out...” Mei said, as Phineas picked her up. Grabbing his luggage, the two quickly left as May and Heather got into a fight, to look for another seat. Eventually, they found the perfect seat, which was close to the buffet car and had a slightly worse but still impressive view outside.
Placing his luggage up once more, Phineas helped Mei into her seat rather than watch her trying to jump and grab the edge of the seat. Smiling a bit from the help, the inchling reached into her luggage, pulling out miniature bottle of water and taking a small sip of it.
“Hey...” Mei said, as she finished drinking and twisted the cap back onto the bottle. “Thanks for all that happened back there earlier. I know we still lost those great seats, but it was very nice to have someone help protect me...”
“Yeah, I know...” Phineas said back, as he looked to the fight between May and Heather. At this point, Siv was trying to hold May back from continuing things any further, while Heather seemed to barely be standing, with a few bruises covering her face as she debated between trying to continue the fight and running away.
“Yeah, if there’s one thing I’m really sad when it comes to my size, it’s that most of these bullies get a easy shot at me. You think getting stuck in a locker is bad? I’ve once been stuck in a backpack by someone like her...”
“Sounds harsh... but hey, if anyone else tries to do something like that, I’m sure you’ll find a way to get back at them.”
“Yeah...” Mei replied, hugging her luggage. “Probably by reporting them to the teachers. Unless I had some sort of potion that could shrink someone to my size, I don’t think I’d be able to get back at them... but as long as I can report them, I can help prevent others from ending up like me!”
Over the next six hours, Phineas and Mei continued to hang out, sitting together as they waited for the train to arrive at the Citadel. While Phineas read through various text books about potions and summoning spells, Mei ended up drawing the scenery of the outdoors, as it passed by her.
Eventually though, as the train made it’s stop, the two got out of their seats, as everyone began leaving the train. Back at this wizard’s academy once more, Phineas let out a small sigh, as he looked down to Mei. “Well, only two more years Mei, and we’ll be done with this place.”
“Yep...” The Inchling replied. “Gotta say, this place always gets more lively year after year... hey, if you want to hang out again, how about the Citadel Library, tomorrow at 4?”
“I’d be glad to.”
“Good!”
With that, Phineas watched as Mei began running away, losing track of her as she passed through beneath the feet of other, larger students. While Mei was certainly a much smaller girl, she at least was one of Phineas’s few friends made over the years, and while his dorm mates switched year after year, he at least got to spend some time with the small alchemist to be.
Before he could think about her more though, Phineas ended up getting bumped into by another one of his friends, Nicholas, as he ran past him to reach the building. Remembering that he had to step in and find where he was going to be sitting at, Phineas followed the crowd, ready to begin the new year.
