Your father rarely refuses you in any of your requests.

Unfortunately, direct interaction with the giants via the tablet is one of those times he did say no.

Indirect interaction, however…

When the tablet was discovered, and especially after its purpose was fathom, it was kept under heavy guard, with only a handful (no pun intended) of people allowed access to it.

In time, though, restriction around them tablet was relaxed, and the giants were even allowed to view every day behavior of the people. Only a handful of people, though, we’re allowed to directly communicate with the giants.

There were, however, no restrictions on watching those interactions. Fairly soon, you could understand English better than people who got to speak with giants on a regular basis.
