Prompt:
Proverbs 3:13-18
13 Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
14 For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.
15 She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.
16 Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.
17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.
18 She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.

This is what Solomon thought about wisdom and understanding and the value of it. What do you think about wisdom and understanding?

I agree with Solomon. Wisdom is all those things and more. Wisdom is knowing how to walk without causing a disturbance. Wisdom is having an understanding that lets you empathize with the situations of others.

For my blog "Prompt:
Proverbs 3:11-12
11 My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction:
12 For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

Write about a time you were chastened by the Lord."

I believe a lot of people look at chastening from the Lord all wrong. They consider it punishment from God. God does not punish anybody. He never did for sin is its own punishment. It has consequences and repercussions. God allows those to be the punishment for sin. He may close the window of fellowship with His subjects, but I do not really believe He even does that. I believe when we sin He is standing there holding us and looking on our sin with us. No, He does not punish. He does chasten. The word used in this text is "מוּסַ֣ר" or musrar and it means "discipline." God disciplines when He allows trials to come into our lives. He is walking beside us every step of the way. He sees the storm on the horizon and knows the storm will beat and batter us, yet he walks us through it, knowing it will make us stronger. He does not punish us however.

What do you do to deal with summer heat?

I have skin cancer, hopefully now in remission. I will know when I see the doctor again. The way I deal with the heat is to stay out of it as much as possible. I also drink plenty of fluids and use a high SPF sunscreen.

For my blog "Prompt:
Proverbs 3:9-10
9 Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

Some people believe these two verses have to do with tithing. What are your thoughts? What do you think about tithing?"

I am a soldier in the Salvation Army. I am under covenant to tithe my income and I do so faithfully. In fact, I am glad you mentioned that because I had not sent my tithe to the corps this month. The job I have pays once per month plus room and board. I just got paid so... Yes. I very much believe in tithing. The way I look at it, the money is all God's. He only asks for a small offering from it. The least I can do is make that offering. I do so out of respect. I love God with all my heart. While I may not be the most faithful follower and often fall short of the mark, I do love God and try to do the right thing. Tithing is the right thing to do. Whether God blesses my tithe or not is unimportant. I know that He does bless it though. I have had many people tell me that I live a charmed life because everything I need is met. I have answers to all my prayers and things usually go well for me. I think this is because I am, for the most part, obedient to God.

For my blog "Prompt:
Proverbs 3:7-8
7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.
8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

What does it mean to be wise in my own eyes? What do these verses mean?"

Before I attempt to answer this question, I must ask your advice. I am the Chaplain of the WV Veterans Home in Barboursville WV. As chaplain I have the precarious job of walking on banana peelings and egg shells. I preach to people from churches who are diametrically opposed to each other doctrinally. One will believe in the premillennial reign of Jesus Christ and all that pertains to it. Another is from a church that does not believe in it. Both can use scripture to back up their positions. I have tried to stay neutral on the subject. My position, since I am well versed in both arguments and can see that both arguments are scripturally convincing, is to steer clear of it. I know we will find out!

The Jews thought they were going to be the country that led the rest of the world. In fact, I believe Judas betrayed Jesus because Judas thought doing so would spur Jesus into revolting against the Sanhedrin and against Rome. Judas had listened to all of the preachers and teachers of his time who had misinterpreted many Old Testament scriptures about the Messiah. He thought the Messiah was to set up a physical kingdom on earth. He was wrong.

What says that Jim Bakker, John Hagee, and all of the other premillennialist preachers today are not equally as mistaken? Jesus Himself said that His coming would be at a time when man did not expect. The church did not believe in the "rapture", "premillennialism" or any of this until the 1800's. Prior to that it was unheard of. Now it is commonly accepted and those who don't accept it are branded "non-believers" and "reprobates".

Jesus said we needed to believe only one thing: "Jesus Christ died and rose from the dead."

As long as that is preached all this other stuff is icing.

Now to answer the prompt: I believe to be wise in one's own eyes is to be puffed up full of pride and arrogance. Like the man in question, the proud think they are right and everybody else is wrong. They have no respect for differing opinions, even if those opinions are based on the other person's translation of scripture.

For my blog Today we cruised the outer rim, crossed the galactic plain, and reentered the galaxy. Sitting there in the sector was a lovely star we hadn't discovered. (49) writes to her daughter in vitro. If you were an expectant mother, what would you say to your child?

If I were a mother today I would apologize to the child for getting pregnant to begin with.

How do you bind mercy and truth around your neck and write them on the table of thine heart?"

The Bible is filled with metaphorical language and this expression is one of those metaphors. It means that we should always act in ways that are merciful, loving, and forgiving. This can be hard to do and it takes practice. The first thing we have to do to accomplish it is be saved. A personal relationship with Jesus Christ is the foundation upon which love and mercy are built. Once we have this relationship we must also determine that we are going to live a life characterized by forgiveness, love, and mercy. We must allow Holy Spirit to lead us. God blesses such a life, and His blessing provoke others to want such a life. This is living a missional life.

Proverbs 3:1-2
3 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
2 For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

What are these verses saying to you personally?"

In my professional opinion, these verses are God saying that if we do His will in all things He will bless the efforts of our hands. What is God's will? Jesus summed that up in Matthew 22:34-40 when He said the greatest commandment is love. Love does not think of its own good. Love seeks the well being of others. It wants others to succeed and to have their needs met. Love does not pass the homeless person on the street. Love buys them a meal and sees to it that they have clothes and shelter. Love does not horde money but shares it liberally. God is not against being rich or comfortable. He is against being greedy and cruel. He isn't against a person owning a big factory. He is against that factory owner exploiting the poor to get ahead. He isn't against investing in the stock market. He is against doing so if it means making somebody else do without. God wants us to get ahead. He just does not want us to do so at the expense of others.

A message from the future about a dream for the future that is fulfilled
#1913639 by Prosperous Snow celebrating

I've had dreams about the future that later became fulfilled. I tend to believe that when we have such dreams it is God giving us a glimpse into the future.

I love this form. I am a big fan of any metered poem. I feel meter challenges the poet's creativity. Anybody can write free verse and prose because that is just regurgitating words onto paper. Meter and rhyme on the other hand require discipline and talent.

God cares about cleanliness and sanitation. Write about a time you experienced an unsanitary situation and what you did about it. What are your thoughts on verse 14? How can we apply it to our lives today?

The thing to remember about the Bible is that it is filled with metaphorical language. Some scholars, in fact most scholars, think that when the Bible talks about the fires of Hell that it is talking metaphorically. The passage in question today is no exception. While people were expected to go outside the camp to relieve themselves, the usually dug a pit and built a building around it out of available materials. The waste God is talking to is of course physical. I mean nobody wants to step in that. However, God is telling Israel that if they do something foul, they should clean it up. This is metaphorical as well. If we make a mistake, straighten it up. Make amends. Don't just say "I'm sorry." Correct the wrong. I think this is what God is metaphorically referring to here. He means that if we make a mess we are to clean it up. There is no such thing as being sorry unless we are willing to correct the mistake. This is repentance.

Write about the poet tree in your Blog entry today.

I guess we all have a quiet place where we go to write. This poet's quiet place is beneath and elder tree. Mine is secluded in my room. I have spent the past two weeks writing discussion board entries, term papers, etc for graduate school. I still have a discussion board post and a three page book review to write. First I have to read 400 pages of material.

I think it means that sin has consequences. God will punish sin, but sin mostly punishes on its own. I have heard a lot of people say they want nothing to do with a God that would send anybody to hell. I like this video.

Some things in life just do not seem fair. Death is one of them. On the other hand, if we did not have death we would have a population problem.

The best way to deal with death is just to be present. You don't have to say a thing. In fact, it is often best not to say a thing. Just be present.

Long preaching can be deadly. 🤔 Have you ever fallen asleep in church? What happened? How can we avoid going to sleep during long preaching? Oh, and according to this verse, it is best to avoid a window seat."

As a preacher I try to bear that in mind! Long-winded preaching can put anybody asleep because we're human. We only have a certain amount of attention span. This young man fell asleep because Paul was long-winded. I'll bet Paul took that under advisement from then on.

I always loved cherry blossoms. They are one of the most beautiful flowers one can find on a tree. They are beautiful not only because they look and smell nice, but for what they represent. They represent a cherry that will grow on the tree later in the year. I have picked cherries and pitted them using a cherry pitter. It is a lot of hard work but in the end it is well worth it. I can still taste that first big slice of homemade cherry pie with homemade whipped topping. The cherries were fresh, the cream was fresh from a cow, and it was all beyond delicious!
