Just an image Blessed are they that keep judgment, and he that doeth righteousness at all times.

What does it mean to keep judgement? How can we be righteous all the time?

This is a passage I think I can explain without a lot of research and theological terms. Some of the terms within the question itself are theological, but it is theology that most people instinctively know. It does not require much explanation. The term righteous for example is a theological term. Yet the world recognizes righteousness as being a basically upright and just person. This question is asking how we can be righteous? The answer is that if we are doing it then we cannot be righteous. Isaiah 64:6 tells us that our righteousness is like filthy rags compared to God's righteousness. So the short answer to the question is that based on human willpower alone we cannot be righteous. However Jesus Christ changed everything. He left the glories of Heaven to become a man and die in man's place. Since He was God incarnate He was able to do what no human being could do. He lived a 100% righteous life. Then the human Jesus died on the cross and took the sin of the world upon Himself. In dying He accepted the punishment for our sin. Therefore God applies the death of Jesus to the lives of any humans who accept it and through that substitutionary death humans are declared righteous.

As to the prompt, fishing is one thing I do not do a lot of. As a resident of the WV Veterans Home, which is owned by the State of West Virginia, I am issued a special fishing license, which entitles me to fish anywhere in the State of West Virginia (or from the Ohio banks of the Ohio River) since WV owns the Ohio River. However, I seldom exercise the privilege as I have too much to do already. I would certainly never eat anything from the rivers and try not to eat a lot of seafood since the rivers ultimately empty into the oceans. For a real fish story read

How does this quote relate to renewal."

If this is the Joesph Campbell I believe it is, he was instrumental in starting the church of Christ movement, a non-denominational group of independent churches loosely connected by theology. What I believe Campbell was saying is that in order to grow spiritually we have to be willing to change. Christianity calls this change being "born again". Other religions may have different terms for it but the gist remains the same. We discard the person we were in order to become a new and better person. We all grow to some extent by learning. However, real growth comes when we accept spirituality in whatever form and work to become better people.

Blog City image small "Prompt: What is art to you? Do you think there might be a universal set of rules underlying all aesthetics?"

Art is a lot of things to me. It is wall decoration. It is trash and it is treasure. It is beauty and it is ugliness. It is the expression of oneself. A lot of art makes no sense to me. I guess you have to understand the artist's philosophy. I am not even going to try to examine whether there are rules to aesthetics. The question requires a philosophical response based on inductive and deductive logic. As a graduate student taking Christian theology this semester I have to take and defend many positions using deductive reasoning and it quite often gives me a headache. I am going to pass on this one.

Just an image Prompt: Psalm 94:12 12 Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O Lord, and teachest him out of thy law;
13 That thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit be digged for the wicked.

Why are we blessed when God chastens us? What do these verses mean?

Heavenly Father chastens or corrects us because we are His covenant people. In the Old Testament we read of the giving of the Law on Mt. Sinai and of the Jews acceptance or ratification of that law. Their acceptance of the Law was usually ratified by the act of circumcision and animal sacrifice.
In the New Testament we read of a change of that covenant. The Hebrews writer is most clear about this in Hebrews 9 where they write that the New covenant was ratified by the shed blood of Jesus Christ. Christians become part of this new covenant through salvation. Once we are saved we are no longer our own employer. We belong to God by contract. The terms of that contract are spelled out clearly in God's word. Part of those terms state that whenever we are out of line God will punish us. This punishment could range from light conviction to the taking of our physical lives. Usually it is conviction although God will at times turn us over to Satan and allow us to be buffeted and beaten by Satan until we repent. Satan may even be permitted to take our lives. Chastening is done for our own good. It leads us on the right path.

For my blog Prompt: Hi everybody

I am sending the prompt slightly earlier than usual. I wanted to send it before I got sidetracked and forgot. Your captain is a lot like the absentminded professor. I'm usually pretty smart but can go to the bathroom and forget why I'm there! lol

Today cruising through the WDC galaxy we got a distress call from Randyjohnson who writes about his wife learning to play violin. I tried to learn to play guitar, but I live at the WV Veterans Home. The guys said it sounded like I was "skinning cats" and the poor cats were alive! (Yes. I'm terrible.)

and tell us what you do when somebody tries to play an instrument but could not carry a tune in a ten gallon tub!

I tried to learn to play the guitar. I had an instructor at one point and I actually got pretty good at one or two songs. Then I moved and no longer had the instructor. I also sold my original guitar and did not get another for about a year. I decided to but one just to tinker with. I got it and practiced every day for about three weeks. I simply could not pick it back up. The guys on my floor said it sounded like I was "skinning cats while the poor things were living."

I gave it up all together.

Image for BCOF members to put in their blogs Prompt: "If you had an extra room in your home, what would you use it for?"

I live at the WV Veterans Home in Barboursville WV. I guess you could say that my house does have extra rooms as we have plenty of empty rooms. To get in here though you must be an honorably discharged veteran and go through an application process. If I had my way, every room would be filled. We would not have a homeless issue.

Blog City image small Prompt: "Do you think the eyes are a window to a person's soul? What does eye contact mean to you?"

I don't know if the eyes are windows to the soul or not. I do know that eye contact is important. Eye contact lets the person you are talking to know you are listening. I had a therapist once who had a huge ego. At the time I did not have hearing aids so I usually did not make eye contact as I was watching their lips. She accused me of "Checking her out" and said "I dress in turtle necks and loose pants on days I know you are coming to prevent you from un dressing me with your eyes."

I was furious! I had always found her unattractive and had never checked her out. I flatly told her so. I told her to stow her ego elsewhere and asked for another therapist. The doctor supervising her happened to be in the session and he told her that I was being honest with her. He told he that he had known for a long time that I had hearing loss and never made eye contact. She profusely apologized and since she was a student I continued with her. She became a good therapist, one of the better ones I had because she now understood me and I understood her. It was all over eye contact, or lack thereof!

Just an image Prompt:
Matthew 24:43-47
43 But know this, that if the good man of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.

How can we be wise and faithful servants?

This scripture is telling us that we are to be on constant guard because Jesus is returning. Today is the day Jesus was just over 2000 years ago. Secular science itself has proven that there were eyewitness accounts of the crucifixion so we know that it isn't just a myth. It really happened. There are also eyewitness accounts and ancient Roman records that prove that Jesus died in the crucifixion. In fact, medical science today says that no human being could possibly survive a crucifixion. It is a medical impossibility. When the Romans crucified Jesus He died. There are also Roman records which prove that a squad of Roman soldiers were dispatched to guard the tomb in which he was laid. The Romans knew of His claims to be the Son of God so they were not taking chances that Jesus's disciples would steal the body and claim He had risen. The Romans could not chance that because it could lead to an insurrection. So they placed a squad. or about 24 soldiers to guard the grave taking shifts. This however did not work because Jesus rose from the dead. Roman records prove that the soldiers were thoroughly questioned and stuck to their story that an angel had overcome them and Jesus had arisen. The Bible tells us that Mary Magdalene was the first disciple to see Jesus alive. Secular records show that the first humans to see Jesus alive were the soldiers. Many of those soldiers became believers and could not be bought off by the Romans or the Jewish Sanhedrin. They died claiming Jesus had arisen. Roman records clearly indicate that the resurrection really happened.\

After Jesus arose He remained on Earth for forty days. Then on day forty He gathered with His disciples at Mt. Olive. There He clearly told the disciples that while He was not setting up a physical kingdom and overthrowing Roman rule, He would be setting up a kingdom. The kingdom He spoke of is the spiritual kingdom we know as the universal or small C "catholic" church. Catholic means "universal". It did not originally refer to the Roman bishop or any other bishop. Jesus then ascended into heaven and an angel appeared. The angel told the disciples to quit staring into the sky because Jesus would return exactly as He had gone.

Jesus tells us to be on guard. We are to watch for Him. The passage given as a prompt is one of many telling us that Jesus is coming back. When He comes He will reward those who are actively waiting to welcome Him.

Have you ever been bitten by alcohol? Tell us your favorite party memory.

I've been hammered quite a few times. I don't recall any antics because I was typically in a blackout. I am a recovered addict. I have been sober just over 12 years. Alcohol was never my favorite substance so I did not use it a lot. When I did I drank enough that it should have killed me. My wife was usually my designated driver. She got pulled over one night after I had been drinking. The officer smelled the alcohol but knew I was the drunk passenger. He asked to breathalyze me and promised not to arrest me if I allowed him to do so. I allowed it and blew a .359. I had alcohol poisoning. He wanted to force treatment but knew he had made a promise. I went home but he told my wife to call him the moment I passed out because he could then legally treat me and save my life. I never passed out. I guess I was stubborn. lol. I have no recollection of the event but know I was sick for a week afterward. I only drank once after that. I had half a beer and threw it away. I gave up all mind-altering substances not prescribed and taken as directed on February 9, 2009. I take controlled substances to this day for narcolepsy and I take mood altering substances for bi-polar disorder. I take them as directed and have not been "high" since 2009. Well, I take that back. I have had several kidney stones for which the doctor ordered morphine and the morphine typically knocked me on my backside. Aside from that I have not been high.

Image for BCOF members to put in their blogs Prompt: "Use these words in your blog... courage, brilliance, bunny, daffodil and raindrops."

Courage is standing up for what one believes in. Lyn's a Witchy Woman and I have different religions. She feels I have attacked her beliefs on occasion and I regret that. I am an American veteran who served my country believing that I was defending the individual's right to worship as they wish. I would never attack another person's beliefs, even if they are not Christian as mine are. I will however speak my beliefs and say that I disagree with their beliefs or do not practice the traditions of their beliefs. This has gotten me into hot water regretfully.

Brilliance is often in the eye of the beholder. I know many "experts" who do not have a clue about the truth. They are brilliant in their field but as ignorant as a fence post.

The bunny has become the symbol of Easter, which is sad, because Easter was actually the Latin or Greek term for Passover. It had nothing to do with a bunny. The syncretism or blending of religions led to the bunny representing the resurrection of Christ.

The daffodil is my favorite flower. They are the first to come up in the spring and always a sign of hope to me that warm weather is coming.

Raindrops will hopefully stay away for a day or two.

Blog City image small Prompt: "Do you have an ongoing project going? Are you doing it to benefit others or yourself?

Alternate prompt: Use these words in your entry today: bunny, eggs, daffodils, grasshoppers and loitering."

I like that you are offering alternative prompts. If I had more time I would use both. Since I am pressed for time I will use the first. Yes. I have several projects I am working on. One is my book which is suppose to be out this month. I published it so others could enjoy it. If I make money on it that's great. If not, no big deal. People are more important than money.

Just an image Prompt:
Like 6:20-23
20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.
21 Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.
22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.
23 Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.

How do these differ from the beatitudes in Matthew 5? What can we take from these verses for ourselves?

Many of these prompts require some time to answer because i need to research them and do proper exegesis and hermeneutic on them. This is one of them. At face value it eludes at the believers reward in heaven for enduring persecution. Verses 20-21 however have a slightly different meaning. They refer to how believers are rewarded for focusing our attention on others. The believers here are poor because they choose to be. Peter, John, James, and Andrew all left lucrative fishing businesses to be penniless following Jesus. The women Mary and Martha were financially well off as well. They sacrificed their savings and personal needs to support Jesus and His disciples financially. There are scriptures to support this but as I said, it would take some time to research them. I suggest readers use a good study Bible and research the backgrounds of Jesus's disciples. Matthew is another one who gave up wealth to follow Jesus. Many of them did as many of us do today. I could easily be making $20.00 or more per hour right now. I choose to receive an income of $600.00 per month so I can work as a chaplain and a peer support specialist. I do so out of love. If I never receive an eternal reward, I receive plenty of reward here on Earth. God multiplies my $600.00 per month. I currently have $120.00 cash in my wallet and about as much in the bank. My needs are met so any cash I have is spending money. God takes care of me because I try to do His will. This scripture is basically saying that we do not need to be concerned with worldly cares if we do God's will. God will reward us both now and eternally.

For my blog I just reported back to the bridge today after a short break for sickness and school. I found that (2728) had the bridge in top condition and I thank her for handling things for me.

she talks about wondering if she'll ever recover. Have you ever been in a place where you wondered if there was any hope? What did you do?

I have been in the dark place Choconut is talking about and could easily go there again. You see, I have bi-polar disorder, which is a type of mood disorder characterized by bouts of depression and swings of severe mania. I have been out of Neudexta and Rexalti, the medications I take to treat my bi-polar, for about two weeks because of the pandemic and bureaucratic screw ups. So I am on thin ice. I am hoping the medications come in today. The prescriptions were supposed to have been faxed to the pharmacy three days ago. I am on the phone with the pharmacy as I type this to see what the hold up is. They are saying that I should receive the Rexalti today but that they still have not received the prescription for the Neudexta, which is the heavy hitter for my bi-polar disorder. I am currently stable but can others have noticed differences in my behavior that indicate I am sliding backwards. I refuse to allow bi-polar disorder to rule my life. One thing that immensely helps me when I do not have medication is staying active and investing myself into others. I am a chaplain, peer support specialist, fllor leader at my domicile, and a graduate student. I stay plenty busy and am disciplined enough to get things done even if I am depressed. I will be fine.

I would honestly have to research this in depth before I could give a definitive exegesis of it. I do know that it appears to be a messianic prophecy. Israel long expected the Messiah to establish a material kingdom. When Jesus came many thought He would battle the Romans and set up the Messianic kingdom. It is my belief that Judas's motivation in betraying Him was to try to force His hand. Judas expected Him to fight and cast off Roman rule. That is why I am constantly warning those who have preconceived notions about the end times to just wait and find out. Jesus is indeed coming back. When, how, and what that will look like remains to be seen. I do not believe it will be the way any of us expect.

Write about this poem today for your Blog entry."

I love this poem. It has good flow and a rhyme scheme. It is almost sing-song in nature and those are my favorite types of poems. I did not do a syllable count and I am lousy at beats but I believe this poem to have some type of definite meter. My hat is off to the author.

Geese are not very sociable birds. I grew up on a farm where we raised geese. It was not unusual for a goose to sneak up from behind and bite you on the calf. When the do that they bite down and twist their head, in effect giving you a painful pinch. They usually did not harm me because I fed them their corn. However, if they had already eaten their fill of something else they could be mean creatures. One of them attacked me once. He was delicious!

I was going to take a few weeks off because I am in a class that is quite intensive and requires a lot of my time. I also have a ton of other responsibilities that require my attention. However, I find myself missing my friends here at WDC and missing my blog. So I will be blogging hit and miss for a while.

Image #2235060 over display limit. -?- Prompt:
Psalm 33:12
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.

What does it mean for a nation to have God as their Lord? Does America or the nation you live in have God as the Lord? Why or why not? What can you do to promote or encourage God to be the Lord of your nation?

We do not need to encourage God to be the Lord of our nation. He is Lord of our nation and all of creation. What we need to do is encourage our leaders to allow Him to be Lord of our nation. Our leaders are constantly passing laws and making policies that fly directly in the face of God. The recent gay marriage ruling passed by SCOTUS for example flies directly against scripture. I know that statement is going to draw fire from many but as a preacher my allegiance has to be to God and His word. My personal opinion does not matter. Personally I could not care less what people do with their individual lives. As a Christian I have to take the Lord's position which says that homosexuality is a sin.

I also have to object to the gender changing policies of the current administration. Just because we have the ability to change a person's biological gender does not necessarily mean we should do so. I have the ability to eat arsenic if I wish to do so, but having the ability to eat arsenic does not mean that I should eat arsenic! The results would not be beneficial. God says that He creates humans male or female. He does so biologically and we can all tell the difference. Just because I feel like the opposite sex does not make me the opposite sex. The current administration is treading the same dangerous path that Judah treaded in the Old Testament in that it is rebelling against the word of God and acting in ways condemned by that word. God remains our leader whether people want Him to be or not!

Brian's Special Angel  (E)
My son Brian's story of what happened to him as a teenager.

Write about angels today.

I do not know a whole lot about angels. I do know that there are both fallen and unfallen angels. I know the fallen angels are a defeated enemy. God just has not yet enforced the terms of the defeat. It will happen in due time. When it does the fallen angels will join their rebellious leader in the Lake of Fire, Rev 20.

The other thing I know about angels is that we often entertain them as guests though we are usually not aware of doing so. The hurting person we ignore on the street may be an angel in disguise.

Write about frustration."

I love this quote. I think I will borrow it and use it as the quote of the week for my peer support group. I am the facilitator of a peer support group each Thursday afternoon here at the West Virginia Veterans Home. While we call it "group", it is more a class than a group. I teach on various topics of how to improve on ourselves. One of the things I teach is the power of a positive attitude. Vonnegut shows a positive attitude when he says that it is easier to laugh than it is to cry.

Research says that it takes about three weeks for a habit to form. I do not know because I never really experimented with it.

And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

What does it mean to be offended in Christ? How can we keep ourselves from being offended in him?

I am doing a research paper on the doctrine of kenosis for my theology class. Theology basically means the study of doctrine. The first part of the word or "theo" refers to God. The second part or "ology" means the study of. So theology is a study of God. Boiled down Christian theology refers to the study of the doctrines of the church. Kenosis is a Greek word meaning "self-emptying". I am writing a research paper about the theology of Jesus emptying Himself to become a human being. When one considers everything the Master gave up to die in our place, one cannot help but get a little emotional. How could we ever possibly be offended by Christ? Yet people are offended all the time. To be quite honest, I have seen times when I have found myself offended when hearing some bozo standing on a street corner preaching. I do not know why but there is just something about street evangelism that bothers me. It's usually because the ones doing it are hypocrites and everybody knows they are hypocrites. That embarrasses me because Jesus looks bad. However I try to remember that as the Apostle Paul stated, I do not care why they are preaching because Jesus's name is being preached.

James 1:25
But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

What does it mean to look into the perfect law of liberty? How do we avoid being a forgetful hearer?

The perfect law of liberty is a term that is often misapplied. Some think of it as a license to sin. In fact, there is one school of thought called "apocatatasis" that believes every creature, including Satan and the demons will be saved. Such thoughts are preposterous but are taken seriously by writers such as Origen, who taught it. The law of liberty does not mean we are free to do what we want. It simply means we are free from the law that enslaved us to sin. We have been declared not guilty by putting on Christ.

Stolen Birthday  (E)
Elizabeth's 5th birthday goes wrong when her presents are missing.(Weekend Flash Contest)
#1449500 by Charity Marie - <3

Write about a Birthday.

Charity Marie - <3 is one of the rising stars on writing.com and I suspect that one day she is going to make it big time. I just hope she can find the right publicity package to help make her name a household word. I hate it when writers as talented as she is get published and sell only a few books because the public has no idea who they are. If she beats this snag, I think she will do great.

I do not have much time to elaborate today as I have a million things to do. However I agree with Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church that transformation is a life long process. Humans go through a metamorphosis of sorts.

John 20:29
Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

What does it mean to believe without seeing?

Hebrews 111:1 says that faith is our proof that we believe in the unprovable. Faith makes the unseen a reality. It goes on to say in Hebrews 11:6 that without faith we cannot be saved. It is my belief that God stays hidden until a person believes in Him and then He reveals Himself to them. To reveal Himself before the person believed would be to condemn them because you cannot meet the definition of faith without believing in what you cannot prove.

 The World I'll Create  (E)
My answer to the three questions about creating my own world.
#2246373 by Cindy

Use these questions in your Blog Entry today.

Princess Megan Rose 22 Years you are hanging with bad company if you are hanging with Darth Vader! tsk tsk! lol!

The three questions are: What kind of world will you create?

How will you make it happen?

Why HR matters?

My answers: I am developing a business. I am trying to find a better solution to addiction than what exists. Relapse rates for addiction, particularly opioids, are over 70% within one year. I am researching to find a better solution and cut those rates to 40% or less. A perfect world for me would be one without drugs. How will I make that happen? I don't know yet.

Revelation 20:6
Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

This is talking about the 1,000 year reign of Christ at the end of days. Explain the first resurrection and the second death.

Eschatology or prophecies about the end times is not my strong point. I know there are at least three schools of thought, all of which can make logical arguments based on scripture. There is the premillennialist school which believes we are going to be raptured out of here and then return with Jesus to establish a 1,000 year kingdom.

There is the post-millennial group who believes we will all be here for the tribulation and then taken to heaven when Jesus comes.

There is the a-millennial group who believes the book of Revelation was a prophecy of the siege of Jerusalem under General Titus in AD 76. This group believes Revelation has all been fulfilled except for the last few chapters.

My personal belief is that I don't have a belief. I know Jesus is coming soon and what happens between now and His return doesn't matter. If there is a tribulation He will get me through it. I just know He will return. I don't know what will happen between then and now. I do believe that like the first advent, the second coming will be nothing like we expect.

The Animals' Heaven  (E)
Losing a pet.
#2220566 by Spiritual Dawning

Write about this poem in your Blog entry today.

Many people think that losing a pet is no big deal. They believe that "It's just an animal. Get over it and move."

I know better. As a mental health professional, I know that people become attached to their pets. When a pet dies, part of the person dies with the pet. Grief is real and the person has to allow themselves to grieve. There is no manual on grief. We all deal with it in our own ways. Take time to allow yourself to grieve any loss.
