PROMPT July 11th

Write a headline you’d love to read in tomorrow’s newspaper.

I was very happy with today's headline in Australia when our girl Ash Barty won Wimbledon. She was the first Australian woman to win Wimbledon for over fifty years. She is a darling girl, so modest and family oriented.
I am not a person who follows any particular sport and I have lived in Australia for fifty years, but tonight there is a football match in the European cup between England and Italy. I'd love the headline that said that England had won. Still a Pommy girl at heart.
That is all very light news and compared to all the heartache that is happening in the world, insignificant. So perhaps. to read the news headlines that Covid 19 had suddenly decided to leave and not return would be wonderful. This damn disease is still wreaking havoc all over the world.
I'd also love to hear/read that the Taliban in Afghanistan had been defeated. The last of our Australian troops left today after twenty years of peacekeeping. Nothing the Australian or United States military has done over all those years has made any difference in the long run despite so many deaths of the soldiers.

What are you particularly passionate about within your career/job? If you are retired, what were you passionate about in your job when you retired?

I suppose as I have been in customer service in one way or another all my life, my passion is making sure of customer satisfaction. It all started for me when selling people groceries when I was fourteen years old. Then I was working in a betting shop taking bets, reckoning bets, taking money or paying it out. In that job keeping punters happy even when they were losing money was important. Always have a smile , a joke or show interest in their troubles, that was my passion. People are my passion, I love finding out about them. Afterwards for thirty or more years working off and on in our own business serving customers every day becomes the norm. In retirement life is quieter but I still try to make someone’s day brighter when I can.

We've all had a mentor or two in our lives. Tonight, write about the first person that ever believed in you

I think the first person to believe in me was my mother. I needed her support when I was young as I had no faith in my abilities at all. I certainly didn’t get any positivity from any of my teachers, in fact I think schools were the places which shook my confidence.
I really can’t say I’ve ever had a mentor, it wasn’t until moving away from England I found my strengths.
I have always instilled in all my children they can do anything they strive to achieve. And that I’ll always believe in them.

Share with us a little-known fact. It can be about anything at all. Feel free to use Google to find one to write about.

I can’t resist sharing several fun facts.

Mona Lisa has no eyebrows
“I am” is the shortest complete sentence in the English language
The Earth isn’t round. It bulges slightly at the Equator
Abstemious has the five vowels in that order
It is physically impossible for pigs to look up into the sky.

We've all had them, good and bad. Write about the best boss you’ve ever had.

Funnily enough I’ve never had a boss other than family. When I left school I worked in our family store. So I guess my boss was my mother. She was ok as a boss, but as we lived over the shop there was no time off. EVER.
Then I left to work for my father-in-law to be. He was a bookmaker (horse racing, not books) and I used to call the horse races to his five betting shops. (Father in law loved me, so he was an okay boss but a real mean with his money guy) you know “you’re family so don’t ask for more money.”

Years later my husband opened a second hand bookstore. I worked there for thirty five years in between being a mother etc. So I suppose my husband was my boss at work. (No wage packet there either!)
Now I’m my own boss but still cleaning, cooking etc. but when I feel like it. Still no pay😩

Women: What is your makeup routine? Men: Tell us about your daily routine to prepare for the day.

Well this won’t take long🤣
The only thing I have done for skin care throughout my whole life is moisturiser. I rarely put water on my face, I use facial wipes only. Then moisturiser.
I’m partial to a little lipstick, the same colour always. And that’s about it.

You’re out with friends for the evening and have ended up at a Karaoke Bar. You’ve all agreed you will sing at least one song. What song will you sing? Why that one?

This prompt reminded me of a time when a friend, my husband and I were on a backpacking holiday around Thailand and Malaysia. We were in Georgetown in Penang and wandered into a Karaoke place.
The whole establishment was Chinese. They were singing karaoke in Chinese. We stuck out like sore thumbs. Three sixty-year old white Australians.
After a few drinks and listening to lots of songs in a language we didn’t understand, I asked the DJ if he had any English language songs. He looked delighted and after a while he gave me the thumbs up. My friend had said she’d sing with me but when we got called up to sing 🎤 she said she’d changed her mind!
Anyway I was really mad at her and marched on to the stage and started to sing. My husband must have felt sorry for me and came and joined me. He must have been drunk as he doesn’t sing at all!
Anyway we sang Elvis’s song ‘. ‘Are you lonesome tonight’ and got a standing ovation.

Here in the United States, we're celebrating our independence today. Is this a special day to you? Will you do anything special? Have we as a country forgotten what this day really means? Yes, I know, several questions there. (If you do not live in the United States, please apply this prompt to the day your country celebrates as Independence, or a similar holiday.)

Australia Day is the official national day of Australia. Observed annually on 26 January, it marks the 1788 landing of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove and raising of the Union Flag by Arthur Phillip following days of exploration of Port Jackson in New South Wales. Wikipedia
Date: Wednesday, 26 January 2022
Significance: Date of landing of the First Fleet in Port Jackson in 1788
Observed by: Australian citizens, residents and expatriates
Also called: Foundation Day, Invasion Day, Australian Natives' Association Day, Survival Day, Anniversary Day

This day is a public holiday, it’s celebrated with parties, bbq’s and fireworks. Alongside all the festivities are the protests from the indigenous people who believe that this was the day their land was stolen from them.
As I was born in England it doesn’t mean too much for me. It’s simply a day off.

Do you have a list of inspirational quotes that you might refer to for guidance? Share one with us!

I don’t really like quotes that are intended to inspire, however I do hear myself saying things that my mother used to say. “Always look on the right side” that’s the quote I’m known for in my family. There is usually a bright side, even in a bad situation.
My daughter even bought me a bracelet on which “always look on the bright side of life” is engraved.
I’ve even requested the song from ‘The life of Brian,’ is played at my funeral. Apparently it’s one of the most requested funeral songs.
I must admit I’ve struggled at times this week to find a bright side, but we’ve come out on the other side and we’re okay.

We've all read about them, we all probably have a favorite. Do you? Tell us about your favorite conspiracy theory. If you don't have one, tell us about one you recall.

The biggest conspiracy theory during my life has to be the moon landing in 1969.
I have a friend who still believes it was filmed in a television studio somewhere!

The latest of course is the Covid conspiracy about the 5G network spreading the virus by weakening the immune system.

I think one of the most outlandish conspiracy theory is the Holocaust denial. How anyone could possibly imagine that millions of people didn’t die at the hands of the Nazi’s is beyond me. How could the disappearance of all those men women and children be explained away?

There will always be the non- believers, the people who can’t be convinced what is staring them in the face is true. They’re the suspicious ones, the ones that cannot accept what they’re being told. I know we need people who question everything and not take things at face value… but really?
