The simplicity of my day to day. |
This is where I write my thoughts, feelings and my daily trials, tribulations and happy things

PROMPT March 5th What is always sure to get your excited? What makes you irrationally happy? I love it when I get a good reception to a story I’ve read out aloud at my writing group. It’s gratifying when the ending takes them by surprise and you get a laugh, groan or gasp. I was watching a programme on TV last night about Billy Connolly the Scottish comedian. He’s retired now owing to old age and Parkinson’s disease. He could have hundreds of people laughing until they cried. The feeling must have been amazing for him. Being able to do that would make me irrationally happy🤣 PROMPT March 6th If you were given five million dollars to open a museum, what kind of museum would you create? A museum of childhood. I love looking at toys from past eras. I often wish I’d saved the toys even from my own children’s childhoods. When I was little our toys were so simple. Whip and tops were popular. So simple a little wooden spinning top on which we’d chalk different colours, and a little whip or a stick with a piece of string tied to it.) We’d wrap the string around the top and try to keep it spinning as long as possible. Mechano sets were popular with the boys, (a metal construction set.) Dolls and prams of course. How I lived my Silver Cross dolly pram. |
PROMPT March 3rd Do you have a green thumb? Are you a gardener? Do you want to be? Well it’s coincidental that this prompt should pop up. I love gardening but haven’t the stamina these days for big projects. However I had the sudden urge to make a small vegetable garden this week. I’ve decided to make a vegetable barrow. I’ve even bought the seedlings. I’m going to put in lettuce, tomatoes, beetroot and radishes. What is something you started doing during the pandemic that you will continue in the “post-pandemic” world? We can hardly even report a pandemic here in Perth. Life has gone on in much the same vane except for a few odd weeks of mask wearing. Melbourne suffered the most out of all Australian cities, they had weeks of lockdown. So really I haven’t done much differently. There has been a shift in consciousness as regards the fragility of good health and how easy things can be taken away from us. I think for a while people were concerned about others. Spoke to their neighbours more. I hope this continues after Covid 19 is relegated to the annals of history. |
PROMPT March 2nd What kinds of things do you like to cook or are good at cooking? What are your comfort foods? I used to love cooking when we were a large family. Even though they were every day sort of meals, things that kids like. I was good at it. Never had to consult cook books, I seemed to have a flare for making up recipes. Now there are just the two of us. The adjustment for smaller meals took years, I simply couldn’t avoid making too much. Now I tend to cook very simply. We don’t need to eat cakes and pies so I rarely go to the trouble. I like to make soups and casseroles, things I can freeze to use another day. |
PROMPT March 1st When you are old, what do you think children will ask you to tell stories about? PROMPT March 1st When you are old, what do you think children will ask you to tell stories about? Well I am old and I don’t know whether it’s just my family or not but they don’t ask me to tell them stories about my past. The only time is when one of the family are expecting a new arrival, they are amazed I lived at a time when there was no such thing as a pregnancy scan. This in my case led to undiagnosed twins. Sometimes someone asks about the time we emigrated from the UK and came to Australia, knowing no one. We were in our twenties with a child. We had a house and two businesses to sell before we left the UK. Comparing myself and my husband as we were then, our grandchildren of the same age seem so young. They don’t seem to think they are adults yet, still quite dependant on their parents. Now I write stories and although the family think it’s a nice thing to do, they’re not really interested in reading them. |
27th Besides writing, what are your hobbies? I don’t really do hobbies. I walk daily, each morning at 6am with my dog and also attend a fitness class twice a week. The only other regular thing besides writing is to go to choir. 28th List your top 8 favorite candies. Turkish delight. Salted caramel and Cadbury flake. |

Maybe it’s something so deep even I don’t know it about myself. A subconscious bias, maybe? 24. What is your favorite restaurant? Thai food restaurants are my favourite. 25. What things can’t you live without? Tea, coffee, a good night’s sleep. 26. What podcasts do you listen to? Interviews with interesting people. They don’t need to be famous, just interesting. I also enjoy listening to anything to do with physical or mental health. |

Myth vs Fact: Sleep If you live a busy life, sleep may be the last thing on your mind, but we know that many people are searching for the latest techniques to help them get a better night’s rest. Scroll to read With that in mind, here are six sleep facts and sleep myths to help you improve your habits. Lack of sleep can affect your weight Fact! Sleep appears to affect a number of factors that can have an impact on your weight. Recent studies have found that people who were sleep deprived – usually sleeping less than seven hours each night – had an increase of appetite and gained weight.2,3 Also, sleeping less provides more opportunity to eat, and insufficient sleep has been shown to impair the body's use of insulin, which can lead to the onset of diabetes. The older you get the less sleep you need Myth! Although sleep patterns change as we age, the need for sleep generally does not. Older people may wake more often during the night, and may sleep less at night-time, but they still need as much sleep as younger adults. This may mean that older adults sleep more during the day: planned naps can be a good strategy for ensuring enough sleep. If you know there are a lot of activities coming up later on in the day, be sure to plan a nap beforehand to help you get enough sleep! Insomnia can be a symptom of depression Fact! Not being able to sleep, or waking up very early in the morning can be a symptom of depression.6 If you have had difficulty sleeping for a number of weeks, it may be worth talking to your doctor about possible causes and treatment options available to you. We recommend reaching out sooner rather than later to be safe. You don't dream every night Myth! Although you may not always remember your dreams, it is widely accepted that you dream every night. Most dreaming occurs during REM - rapid eye movement - sleep, but it is thought that some dreaming occurs during other parts of the night. Your brain is inactive during sleep. Myth! During sleep your brain is very active controlling body functions such as breathing, your heart rate, and hormone production. Not to mention consolidating memories and skills you have acquired during the day. An hour before midnight is worth two after Myth! There doesn't appear to be any truth to this old proverb. It is essential to get enough sleep and for most people this is around seven to eight hours sleep a night.6 If you have to get up early in the morning this will involve going to bed before midnight and may be where this myth originates. However, some people's body clocks are 'programmed' to sleep at certain times and if this is altered by even just an hour - it can affect the way they feel. |
20. What is your favorite flavor to pair with chocolate? Salted caramel 21. Is there something that has frustrated you recently? Talk about it. Family! Daughter who after so much persuasion and talk talk talk. Agreed to go to detox and rehab. After three days she’s decided she can do it herself. Frustration doesn’t do my feelings justice. |
19th Who / what inspires you? Inspiration comes from unexpected places, usually at a time one least expects to be inspired. There is no one person or thing which inspires me. Inspiration might come from something I’m reading or watching on television. Maybe a documentary or even simply a saying. I actually think for myself it comes from within. I often push myself to do things I don’t feel like doing. I think I have an inner dialogue which tell myself I can achieve something even when I don’t believe it. Mostly I’m right I usually can’t/ don’t achieve it but at least I tried. Perhaps I’m a little crazy? 🤪 |
18th If you had an entire day to do ONLY things you enjoy, what would you do? Where would you go? Who would be with you? I’d spend time with my favourite people. They are my granddaughters Stephanie and Beth. Steph has four.beautiful children but I don’t think they’d be coming with us on this special day. Beth is 20 weeks pregnant with her first child. She is an amazing person, she has always managed to keep me and her grandad in her life even when at her busiest. We would probably go out for lunch somewhere outside in a garden. There would be a walk in the bush with my dog on this day. The day wouldn’t be too hot or cold but probably Autumn when the leaves pile up and the slight smell of decay is in the air. I love that smell. I would fit in time for an afternoon tea with my two best friends, Noreen and Suzie. Probably at Noreen’s house using one of her many tea pots. The an evening with my hubby, sharing a bottle of wine and watching an episode of our favourite series on tv. |
