In my view, the primary focus should be on encouraging the writers to write. I do not review items I don't enjoy anymore because I see it as a waste of my time. So, if you get a review from me, I enjoyed reading your work. The amazing thing about this whole process is that reading an inspiring review usually leads to me reading more of a reviewer's work also. So, it's a win-win.

encouraging others to write because I love to read.
I will not review...
something I do not like. I do not enjoy writing hyper-critical reviews. I do NOT believe that "honesty" is a synonym for "mean." If I see someone being "mean" here on the public reviewing page, in group behaviors, or just acting as a bully I will not send them my reviews. The only exception to that would be judging a site contest - there all items get honest (and hopefully diplomatic) reviews of the work from me with no exceptions.

*Cool**Idea* This is a love that is destined to be and that lasts beyond life. I sense Mr. Depp is the model for the hero.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite part:

"You can see them on a moonlit night,
A mermaid swimming and a pirate ghost
who are together at last.
Who says their love wasn't meant to be?"

Very romantic and ethereal. What a lovely dream of being together in the great beyond.

*Cool**Idea* It sounds like Joe was doomed from the beginning. Well, they should have investigated more thoroughly before going on their tirade. Sounds like Sergeant Piper was too busy with his vanity and pride.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I particularly admire the use of alliteration here. It's a sad commentary on the judicial system when form triumphs over substance. I gather that is where I am supposed to go in my thinking but I am very amused by the Sergeant's word choices.

*Cool**Idea*A young man goes on a first date to a friend's house and gets more than he bargained for.

This starts out being told from first person than switches to third person. I don't mind that sort of thing, but thought I would mention it in case it was unintentional. You still get all of your points across very well.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* I like how Sean rolls with it when the evening goes in a different direction than what he intended. With all of this religious help, it sounds like the relationship is off to a good start. Things that are quirky are endearing to me.

*Cow* You posted before I did in the I Write in 2018 activity so it is my pleasure to read your poem.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* You decrease your syllables with each line as the form dictates. In addition to doing this, you provide a story of the battle between fire and water. This is not an easy thing to do, but you do it very well.

From the title one might think that fire is the victor. Indeed, it seems to have the most power at first blush. The fire causes the battle's blaze.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I liked how you ended and that water won out in the end. This poem could be a metaphor for life itself. It is water, the manipulator playing with fire's breath, that is in the ultimate driver's seat and n control.

I enjoyed reading your poem very much - well done!

*Cow* I clicked on Read and Review and it took me to your poem about the history and politics of Racism in America.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* This is a long and detailed poetic history of bias and problems that you site. I think that it has alienated so many people, this wicked behavior on the part of politicians.

I don't see a lot of difference between the Democrats now and the Republicans. They all make promises to get elected and then back out of them or spend the next few years trying to justify their inaction.

Do you really believe that racism is still as rampant as it was in the 60s? I don't believe it is. I think people tend to be more fair in their judgments these days.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I think that we are where we are now because the Republicans had no clue what they stood for and Bernie Saunders should have been allowed a fair chance at the nomination. I do believe that he could have won the election.

I don't see President Trump as a racist, though. I see him as a non-politician who is trying to keep his promises with no help from his own party. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he doesn't switch to Independent or Democrat eventually.

To me, the Republican Congress is worthless, but not racists. I think those days have come and gone.

Your poem is well written and researched and your rhyme is well constructed. I don't agree with everything, but I respect your opinion on the matter.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I think the main thing is, as you indicate, to give the writer what you would want if you were in their shoes. Of course we are all different so different people will want different things. But, this is a good hashing out of the thought process that goes into making reviewing fun.

I enjoy it when I do, just as you say. I write a review that I would want to receive.

At some point you might want to run spell check or read through this again to proof read. I am not a proof reader and I don't enjoy nit picking. There are errors here, but it's more that you were in a hurry to get your thoughts down. I certainly understand that. You get your point across very effectively to me as a reader.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* I like your standard, which is a lot like the Golden Rule with Do unto others being the guide. If I had written this article, this is the kind of review I would like to get - where the reader/reviewer lets me know they have read and it and appreciated the point that's being made.

Writing and reading makes for great reviewing. In this realm, it is quite true that practice can only help us in these endeavors.

Very fine article here that will, no doubt, inspire others in their reviewing efforts.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I think that we all have to have a dream or something to hold on to. This is what your poem conveys to me. You have to have the courage to take chances to see the dream through.

Your poem is organized in rhyming couplets and your words are well chosen and inspirational.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite par:

"The worth of people is not making stands
Or doing whatever the situation demands.
The value lies in reaching for a star
Which one may deem is not too far…"

To have blinders on is the key, like those horses in the Kentucky Derby. Run your own race in your own time is the message and it's an effective one!

*Cool**Idea* I think you have some great and helpful suggestions that writers may not have thought of. I particularly like the idea of taking a notebook everywhere to write things down. I have just started keeping one in my purse. I forget a lot of things I observe during the day and this is most helpful.

Technically, you might want to increase the size of this by typing {size:5 } without the space and then double spacing. This will make it easier to read for your readers and for you. I do it now with most of what I write because of eye strain. *Check*

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* This poem is free verse and it has a message that most will be able to identify with. Do any of us really make a difference? It is hard to say. We all might want to do something differently, if given the option. When we write, we can go places we otherwise would never venture out to. The imagery is very vivid - we all slide down to some extent. If we didn't, it would get quite bumpy along the way.

I think that all your words are very carefully chose and that part about being a nurse there really brought a tear to my eye. I think there is a lot of caring and maybe self deprecation conveyed. It sounds like a lot is being done to me.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

At the end of the reading, this was the part that stays with me:

"Sometimes we might
rewrite our lives
to sleep at night."

Indeed.

I thought it was all brilliant and the words were eloquent and well-chosen - nicely done!

*Cool**Idea* I think that 4 plus years is a long time to do anything on this site. Blogging is fun to do and to read. I enjoy seeing the prompts and what you will write in response to them. It helps me to think of things that are going on in the world that I might not think of otherwise.

I like the focus on the external world and the prompts that are given. Writing to prompts every day or so is a great writing exercise. We cannot help but improve when we practice a lot.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I have been hearing about Armagedon and the end of days since the 1970's. I guess it could happen and might be part of a grand scheme that is way beyond our horizons.

Your rhyme is good and I think you do an effective job of conveying the prospect of ultimate doom. It doesn't really scare me the way it used to when I was young and impressionable.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I especially like this part:

"The harbinger is coming,
he was here long ago;
Death will ride upon his wings
and soon we all will know."

I wonder if this is the same messenger who rode in during the 70's, maybe warning us about 40 years down the road. You never know with a harbinger of doom, do you.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* This was very interesting and informative. Dads do a lot of wonderful things and men who help kids, who are not their own, do a lot of things that deserve to be applauded and recognized.

Someone I knew once joked that every day was father's day. I know my own father was just a wonderful and inspiring person. Not a day goes by that I don't think of him and miss him.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup*I had no idea that Father's Day was so recent. It just seems like it was always there to me.

But to think that Nixon made it official in 1972 - that was pretty surprising. I can't remember a time when there was no Father's Day after Mother's Day in the Spring.

Very interesting and not something I will soon forget. On Father's Day, I will share this knowledge that you have given me.

*Cool**Idea* With Mother's Day coming at us, it is a lovely and fitting time to remember and pray for mothers who devote their lives to their children. The unsung heroes shine all year round.

I particularly admired and applaud this passage:

for all the mothers in the world,
Yemen, Syria, Flint.
May our children be made whole.
May the sacred threads hold.

*Cool**Idea* I am glad to see that you sleep better now that you are retired. Sometimes I cannot sleep, either.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* I agree that it can be due to stress or also being excited about things. Usually when I can't sleep one night then the next night I sleep for 12 hours.

I wish I could relax the way my Boo relaxes. She can sleep anywhere anytime and it is a deep sleep. We had a house full of people on the weekend and she just laid down where everyone was talking and started snoring. I took it as her hint to the relative so leave. *Laugh*

*Cool**Idea* I think this is about living a life that is simple and faith based. I am not sure of the style and what it requires and I did not see that here, but it seems to be straightforward with intermittent rhyme.

This was my favorite part:

"with earth below
above the sun
I become one
open to all"

We are all part of each other and the earth. I spent part of Saturday sitting on a bench in a beautiful park and this reminded me of the serenity of those moments.

*Cool**Idea* I think you have some good traditions and activities that keep you focused on the positive things about Spring.

*Thumbsup* You have a fine list and it is good to get the flowers refreshed remembering and also planting the new blooms.

I guess my Spring now means my family comes. And the book sale. Well, that is a good thing and we survived it all and it was fun.

So, I am not complaining, although I am a bit tired out today. I need to do laundry to keep up and I don't feel like it, but I will get on it soon.

*Cool**Idea* I know this happens in the world, but I cannot imagine the disturbed and evil minds that perpetrate these sorts of acts.

The Michael Vicks of the world are many, but many more people love and care for animals. At least, I hope that is the case or the world is lost.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* This part really got me:

"Chased around this trunk
by kids mean as can be;
why do teenage punks
abuse so cruelly."

In the next life they should come back as animals at the mercy of humans. Then, and only then will they understand the cruelty they perpetuate.

I will give my family member (a basset hound) and extra hug when she wakes up.

Powerful, yet disturbing poem to be reminded of how low humans can sink.

*Cool**Idea* I didn't see the note about the typos at first. Then when I read through and again I realized that the writer is blind and in shock from what happened. The ability to type is limited because what can be typed cannot be read. And how do we know about hand placement in order to type as there is no indication of assistance.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

You build up the horror of this plight very effectively and have a lot of description and shared mayhem for such a brief story. You did a fine job with this in conveying the sense of doom and panic that overcomes the writer and the masses.

Very effective and moving writing. Well done!

I am reading and reviewing your item at 10:26AM, WDC time, and storing it in my review tool for later delivery, after the contest winners are announced. As per the contest rules, no subsequent revisions or edits were considered in writing this review.

This is done so that I can give the next prompt at noon and announce the winner as close to that time as possible. I also like to send out reviews to all the entrants when time permits, so it gives me the morning to do that, also.

What does HOOves think about and contemplate while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* Your character sure knows how to make an entrance. You changed up the wording of the prompt, but it works with the story.

I like how you describe her coming into the coffee shop - it sounds like she is ready to change his life.

What does HOOves applaud and moo about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* I like the gentle humor in this and the promise of something developing between them that I read between the lines. You did a super job with creating an atmosphere and making me (as a reader) root for her and a perhaps developing relationship.

I enjoyed reading this very much!

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea*This was very amusing and entertaining. I had no idea that sheep were so spirited. They are almost as versatile and interesting as cows. Almost. *Wink*

Shatner is a favorite of mine. I hope in the abduction that those goats didn't damage his toupee. Goats like to think they can think outside the pen. They can't so I look for clever minds to engineer a rescue promptly.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* Corvus is the one to watch. Cheeky and clever and he's got the bird's eye view of the action. Well, it always is the bottom line with crows.

*Cow* I saw that you had posted in The Writer's Cramp with your wonderfully poignant story.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I can remember a chair like this that my Dad sat in. I always associated comforting thoughts of him with that chair. I could picture him in it and still can, even though I do not have the chair anymore. My mother wanted it gone, but it took a long time for me to get rid of it for her. His chair was totally falling apart. It was his from the 1950's I think. My mom actually used to fuss at my dad about that chair.

If you have ever seen the TV SHow, Frasier, Frasier's dad has an ugly chair that made me think of my Dad's fake leather one.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* It is lovely that the chair now gives you a wonderful feeling. I think, as we go through stages of missing people, it is nice to be able to hold on to things they held dear.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea*Well, it is less than a month away now. I am looking forward to it. I like Prince Harry and William.

After what the media did to their mother, hopefully things will go well for them. Everyone sort of owes them at least that. I think they are held in high regard all over the world. Hope that is the case, anyway. Their mother was a favorite of mine.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I hope someday Harry (especially him because he doesn't have to worry about being King) writes a book. I will be very interested to hear what he has thought about a lot of things.

I know he loves his Dad. These events are good when Camilla tries to get in the pictures with her awful head wear. She never quite pulls it off. Meghan will be a lovely Princess and a good addition to that weird family if she can tolerate Charles and Camilla, who I do not care for (understatement).

Queen Elizabeth is quite a grand lady and she and her corgis will help smooth the way.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I am a big fan of historical fiction. My focus has mostly been WWII, but Downton Abbey sparked an interest in the first world war.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I love the way you describe the action and the surroundings:

"The clouds became larger and more dominating as the planes gained altitude. Finally the planes broke through and rose above the clouds. Still higher they rose until the clouds appeared as puffs of smoke."

In a side note, my mother once said that international air travel and planes changed her world from the one she grew up with more than anything. She said this before 9/11, which, in hindsight I thought was quite remarkably observant. She was no great traveler, but she was very observant about her world and how it changed. She grew up in the 30s.

This was engaging and I also appreciate the fact that these young flyers are grown boys competing, in a lot of ways.

Very insightful and moving, without hitting the reader over the noggin' with it.
