Greetings, Carly!
I like this, and I can see why it won the contest! Congratulations!
You did a nice job with the misdirection, making us think you were a human when you were actually a dog who had enough smarts to answer that phone, and I like how you used those prompt words.
But who's to say that animals can't take messages? *Rolling*
Great spelling and telling, but I do have a comment and suggestion:
'Whoever invented cordless phones certainly did not live in squalor.' (so true! *Laugh*)
"Hello(.)" I said in an attempt to communicate. (comma)

*BalloonR* Welcome to WDC from "Newbie Welcome Wagon! *BalloonR*

Hello there, Zatykhan!
This isn't bad for one of your first pieces on here, and I totally agree with you about our 'last bit of innocence' when it comes to cartoons and our childhood. We are only children for a very small part of our lives, and in that time we're happy and we don't have to care about all the other 'big' problems of the world!
It's in a child's eyes that we see our own innocence, and if we can't do that, then there's something wrong with the world!
You did a nice of telling this, although your English seemed a little broken in a few spots. But it wasn't so bad that we didn't understand what you meant.
Keep on writing on, my friend, and welcome to WdC! If you like to write, then you're going to love it here!
PS-I'm 54, but I'll always be a kid at heart! One of my favorite cartoons will always be the old Bugs Bunny and Roadrunner ones!
PSS-You might want to get your bioblock (biography) set up so we can know a little something about you (hobbies, favorite books/authors, location, etc.), but that's up to you, of course.
PSSS-And since you’re new here, perhaps you’d like to check out "Noticing Newbies and introduce yourself to the rest of the community if you haven’t already.

Hello there, Greg M!
This is a pretty good, albeit sad, piece, and you did a nice job of telling it. I also like how you used the prompt phrase.
I've done these 300 word FFs quite a bit, so I know how hard it is just to get a plot started, let alone a whole story with so few words to use. But you pulled this off quite well.
What's odd about this is just the other night I had a similar escapade with a possum of my own (only the 3rd time I've ever seen a possum in my life!), and it was also in the middle of the night. Fortunately, it was too lazy to go after my neighbor's cats though.
The spelling and grammar was flawless, and the whole piece read smoothly and naturally.
Kee ponw ritin gon, Greg, and welcome to WdC! If you like to write, then you're going to love it here!

Hi there, Jacky!
This is a nice 'feel-good' story about a 'Grammie' and her grandchild, and it has a nice moral to it about stopping and smelling the flowers. Or is this case, the 'daisies'. *Smile*
I can see why it won the contest. Congratulations!
I like how you portrayed Junie as being so innocent, and Grammie's idea of having her just tell her the small things she remembered was perfect.
I'm starting to get up there in age (54), so that's one thing I want do for my New Year resolutions: slow down and enjoy the small things in life while I still can!

Happy New Year, Sue!
This isn't bad. I like the concept you used for this prompt phrase (mainly because I can relate to it so much! *Blush*), and you did a nice job of giving us some background on why Brian and Mary went to see the Doc. But the ending didn't seem complete, if you know what I mean. What WAS everything?
Don't get me wrong; you did a nice job with the dialogue and the spelling and grammar was flawless (thank you!), but that ambiguous ending left me wondering.

As lifelong fan of Rocky and Bullwinkle, I thought this was pretty neat! I'm not sure what the prompt was for the contest, but this was definitely worthy of the co-victory! Congratulations!

Review of My First Deer
Review by Angus

Hello there, Upper2!
This is a very well written piece about hunting and bagging your first deer, and it really is kind of bizarre.
I've only got one deer in my time, and that was also kind of bizarre. But it didn't compare to yours. The idea that after you went stomping through the woods the way you did, any deer within a 1/2 mile (I'd bet a MILE!) would still be around doesn't seem likely. But you somehow waited it out, only to end up shooting your brother's deer! *Shock* and *Laugh*
I've never hunted from a tree stand, and being from California we usually hunt with rifles, but the experience doesn't seem to be all that much different.
As I said, you did a great job of telling this! Heck, I was getting 'buck fever' just reading it!
Kee ponw ritin gon, my friend! Thanks for sharing this, I hope to see you back here soon, and...

Season's greetings, Snow Angel!
This is good for a FF piece! It's also kind of creepy, but that's why I liked it! *Smirk*
The idea of somebody entering a wrong room was a great plot device (I've already got ideas running through my mind!), especially for something as dark as this. And the way you had this guard arrest her and then Ms Jones explain to her in no uncertain terms that she wouldn't 'need a lawyer where you're going' was excellent.
Granted, you left the ending ambiguous, but it's already dark enough that we can pretty much imagine how it's going to end.
I also like how you wrote this in the first person. I've always thought that makes it more personal and adds to the creep factor!
One tiny niggle in an otherwise excellent piece:
'...a red haired woman ask(s) as the security guard handed her my purse.'
Who in their right mind would only give this 4 stars? That's *Crazy* !

Season's greetings, Bob!
This isn't bad. I was just a kid when this show was on, but I still remember it all too well.
You did a nice job with the characters dialogue (Edith's 'showah' was perfect! *Laugh*), but I'm not too sure about the subject matter. It's kind hard to imagine Edith as a sex addict, even though I know you meant it in jest.
Oh, NOW I see that this was the BANNED episode! *Headbang* No wonder! *Facepalm*
I also like how you started it and ended it with that song.
Overall, I like the idea. Just a few spelling and speech tag niggles you might want to check.

Greetings, Rinsoxy! Or should I call you ‘Scratch’? *Smirk*
What a neat little piece!
First off, writing this is in the first person from the Devil’s perspective was a great choice; it makes it more personal. And offering your ‘client’ a deal to improve their life is a great approach.
But the best part about it is your honesty. You don’t try to hide behind your deal, but instead you tell it like it is. A good example: ‘it isn’t like “being good” keeps you from dying. It just sops away the fun until you get there.’
I also enjoyed that bit about how you played the fiddle with that kid, and how you ‘let him win’ because after all, it was win-win for you anyway! *Laugh*
Frankly, I think you’re one hell of a salesman, and if you aren’t Beelzebub, then I’m sure he’d hire you in a second!
One tiny niggle:
‘Nothing is more soothing than knowing where your going.’ (you’re)
Bravo, my friend!
Kee ponw ritin gon, thanks for sharing this, and you now have new fan!

Season's greetings, Rinsoxy, and happy belated 5th 'birthday' on here!
As a reader/writer/lover and judge of horror, I thought this dark little piece was pretty darn good!
The idea of this demented hostess doing such a terrible thing to her guests is indeed twisted, but at least she was kind enough to give them a choice! *Smirk2*
I also enjoyed the detailed descriptions you used for how she got rid of their 'roasted corpses'! *Laugh*
Great spelling and grammar, excellent us of the prompt words, and I loved that subtle but wicked ending!
My only suggestion would be to put this in a larger font, but other than that, BRAVO!

Season's greetings, Paul!
This is pretty good. I was going to write something for this contest, but most everyone had already used my idea of Mrs. Claus fooling around with the elves. You took it in a different direction and used something totally unique, and I commend you on that!
The idea of Santa spending all his time surfing and making his toys would indeed be a hardship on his missus, so it's nice to see that Alonzo's is spending time with her and attending to her needs. What those needs are though, is best left to the imagination. *Smirk2*
And that part about the award presenter with the 'double D's' was nice touch! *Laugh*
A couple of tiny niggles:
"I’m tired of spending months here alone With all these weird little workers..." (with)
Was “But... wait... sweetheart...” (don't think you want there)
Otherwise, good job!

Season's greetings, Noahwayy!
This isn't bad, and please know that even you're not sure what you're writing, it's still something. In this case you're professing your homesickness for your state and the people you miss there.
What's uncanny is that I've been living in Texas for the last 9 years, and I also miss my home state. So we're both experiencing the same problem, only in reverse. I want to be home in California, and you want to be back HERE!
And what's sadder yet is that I don't really have any friends here, so I'm lonely too. And it's just not what I'm used to! There doesn't seem to be any real 'mountains' (I'm from way up in NORTHERN CA, about 70 miles from the Oregon border in Siskiyou County!) or lakes. Granted I'm living a big city and I don't get out much, but its not the same.
At least I know I'm going home for good this summer!
Anyway, thanks for sharing this, Noahwayy! I hope things turn out for well for you, and I hope you get to go/come home sometime soon!

Hi, Robert!
I was 12 when I saw the first Star Wars, but I had no idea it would become the film franchise that it has. To say I'm a big fan of it would be true, but I'm also a big fan of the original Star Trek. It's kind of neat that both of those envisioned things that we could have only imagined, yet some of those things have actually been invented, at least to a degree! Star Trek ones, mainly.
On a side note, I also told myself when I was a kid that if I lived long enough to see my first grandchild born, I too could die peacefully and have lived a full life. Now I'm regretting that, especially since I became a grandfather at age 38! *Shock* *Laugh*

One last time, BScholl!
This is another cool little FF piece, and judging from how many you have, you seem to have them down to an art!
I love this! I'd say you did a great job with the descriptions, but those were the main subject of this piece!
I used to cut firewood for a living, with Lodgepole Pine being the main wood my customers wanted. And having spent so much time up in the woods, I can't tell you some of the amazing things I've seen! Reading this brought back a lot of those memories, and for that I can't thank you enough!

Howdy, B Scholl (Hawk?), and once again happy 10th 'birthday' on here!
I thought this was pretty neat!
I love a good twisted/surprise ending, you really delivered with this.
Your descriptions of your fear and that old place you had to enter (What was I thinking coming in here? *Shock2*) were excellent, and you kept the action and the suspense moving from the first world to the last!
Just a shame that it had to be a 'wolf-man', though. I'm rather fond of those...
Great spelling and grammar, too!
Comments and suggestions:

'I stood mannequin still' (great metaphor!)

This is something else. I knew it was going to be a Christmas letter from a serviceman for the Bard's Hall contest, but I didn't think it would be a from a dead one!
But wait! He's only missing in action! So there's still hope and he could still be alive...
And then we find out that Sid was only wounded. A disfiguring wound, but a wound never the less. And now he'll receive a Purple Heart AND get to go home early. He won't make it home for Christmas, but he'll be back for good!
Having the setting in the first world war was a cool idea. That might have been the hardest war we ever fought if you consider the chemical weapons (mainly mustard gas) and the trench warfare those poor soldiers had to endure!
But I wonder...Did Mildred get angry at Sid for practically giving her a heart attack with that first letter? *Think*

For your first piece on here, this isn't too bad. I like how started this story out with that flood and the children being taken away from their folks by the government (reminds me of a certain US president *Angry*), and then having to roam all over New York in search of somewhere to stay. That would certainly be daunting!
I also like how wrote this in the first person. That makes it feel more personal.
There's few punctuation and capitalization niggles in this, but I think if you went back over it you could probably spot them.

Season's greetings, Winklett, and happy 17th *Shock2* 'birthday' on here!
This is a really nice tribute to this incredible site, and you did an excellent job of writing it. I like how you gave us some history about how you found it, even though it was the loss of a good friend that might have precipitated it. (I'm sorry for your loss)
Like you, I don't know what I'd do without WdC. I was never really into computers or playing around on the net until about 10 years or so ago, but one night my youngest daughter texted me some writing site she thought I might enjoy since I've always been a writer, even though I never took myself seriously enough to get published.
WdC was the 2nd one I checked out, and within a week I was hooked! And I mean HOOKED!
As you said, there's some amazing people on here, and one thing I quickly found out was that this isn't just a place where we critique one another's writing, but it's more like a family! When one of us is having a crisis, whether it's something minor or major, and no matter what it's about, we know that there will always be somebody on here with an ear to listen or a shoulder to lean on!
And it's also a home to me now, too! I've made more 'virtual' friends on here than I have in real life! Not too mention all the amazing stories I've read by the amazing authors on here!
Bravo, Winklett! What would we have done and where would we be if it weren't for The StoryMaster and The StoryMistress creating this site? *Shock*

Kee ponw ritin gon, my friend! Thanks for sharing this, and may you have many more wonderful 'birthdays' on WdC!

Season's greetings, Robert!
This is a neat educational and informative piece, and I thought it was great! Not only is this a well thought out article about probability and going after the most obvious and easiest answer, but you showed a great example as well!
And the semi-humorous way you wrote it didn't hurt either! *Laugh* And neither did that link!
That part about people running in a straight line made me think, and I've seen this happen in more movies than I want to remember. Why is that when somebody is being chased down a road by a car, whether the car is being driven by a person or is driving all by itself, does that person continue running on the road? In Stephen King's Christine there's a certain scene where some idiot is doing just that, and it's out on a country road with nothing keeping him from jumping to the side! No trees, no buildings, no walls, nothing!
Anyway, I though this was great! I also like the simple way you explained the theory behind Occam's razor.

Greetings, Aztech2099!
This isn't bad. I've always wondered if stupid people should be called stupid or not, mainly because it might not be their fault. Perhaps they were born that way, and if that's what's it is, then they should be called 'intelligently challenged'. *Laugh* However, if they're stupid because they simply refuse to learn, then by all means they are definitely stupid and should be called that!
Sorry, I digress.
As for these basic 'laws', they say a lot. I totally agree with that 4th one, and that 5th one is pretty good too.
Makes me wonder about a certain political party that currently has the majority in the U.S. Senate...*Bigsmile*

Greetings, Chass15!
This isn't bad. I don't think you were making fun of this rather pleasantly plump fellow, but just remarking on his large stature. And sadly, there's plenty of these 'Alberts' wobbling around these days.
Nice job of telling this, and that ending, albeit a bit sad in its own right, was kind of funny. Heck, what else could you do? And at least you tried!
One tiny niggle:
'...how would (I) perform the Heimlich maneuver?'
Kee ponw ritin gon, Chass15, wherever you are, and I hope to see you back here soon!
