Time...doesn't really have a meaning in the afterlives, but the celestial dragon knew that it had been the equivalent of a few weeks since her failure with Jenny. She should have frankly moved on by now, done some more work. But even if the Board disagreed she...still blamed herself for Jenny's death. She was only supposed to keep her on the straight and narrow, which she succeeded at, but...she died so young, and...
"Hey!" She snaps out of her funk, turning around to see a golden retriever angel who had spoken. The Retriever, he was on the board. He had one of the most important jobs in heaven, retrieving the souls of moral mortals. He was also a friend of hers. "I brought you a present! Well, I mean, its not really something you'll own but um..." The Retriever sighs and just hands a small white box with gold ribbons.
The dragon opened it slowly, more confused than anything else...and immediately her eyes go wide. Inside sat the 10 year old soul of Jenny, not yet aware of her surroundings or, probably, even her death.
"I mean, as far as deserved, good afterlives go for a little orphan girl, her "guardian angel" keeping her safe felt like a good choice. If you want me to just take her to floor 3 I can jus-"
"No! No I...thank you." Her eyes are trembling a bit, tears starting to well up. “She’s…not aware of what’s happening yet?”
“From her perspective she just fell asleep. I figured you might wanna set things up to be less” The retriever gestures to the entirety of the massive, world encircling dragon that was his friends current form “Overwhelming?”
“Oh. Good idea um…I don’t get to be this direct in contact with them this often how should…”
The Retriever smiles, and shrinks down to about a 3rd of their real height. Their snout gets smaller, and their eyes wider, as they overall turn into a more…Kawaii idea of a puppy. “Kids seem to think this kind of thing is approachable?...you uh. Also might want to have your boyfriend look…a little less like an eldritch abomination of shadows and eyes?”
Behind the two, the shadows became filled with eyes. “Oh. Right. An innocent soul, don’t want to terrify that…um…kids uh, kids still like bunnies right?”
And those shadows fold in onto themselves and converge into a similarly Kawaii looking white Bunny…with still noticeably red eyes.
“That should work but “ The Retriever looks towards the Dragon, who sighs before taking a similarly cute form…slightly bigger than the rabbits, who seemed to notice this with a blushing scowl.
“You always have to be taller.”
“You like it and you know it.”
