Here are words I like to write
All day long 'til it is night.
Words go up and words go down
When complete approve the sound.

If you complete my little rhyme,
Things will come your way in time.

I fell asleep early, so am up really early which is a rarity. I have done all my goals for today and edited my piece about my very own heart attack. I participate in Habits Heroes and completed all my goals already. I am in overdrive trying to get everything done here.

I run a virtual Christmas entry on my diary site. I need to prepare the slides so I can just have them ready to just click and post throughout the day. I think this is my 5th year hosting it. Some fellow diarists will be alone for the holiday so this is a way to keep them engaged and involved. I gave out very good prizes last year including a crock pot, stock pot, and Kindle e-reader. I was not fond of the reaction I received so know not to do that again. (It was based on them responding to a little fun contest. They had all day to check in and do it. Some thought it was unfair that they did not know about it and blah blah blah. You can't please all of the people all of the time.

There was a point in my 40s I finally felt like a grown-up.
There was a point in my 50s I had cancer and a heart attack.
There was a point in my 60s I was counting the days to retirement.
There is a point now in my 70s where I am running at full speed to get everything I want to be done, ie: my autobiography and dividing up my few possessions

I have had a couple of concerns on here so am backing off a little. Nothing I couldn't handle but I do not like negative stuff to butt into my life especially online.

Prompt: "Gratitude is when memory is stored in the heart and not in the mind." Lionel Hampton Write about this in your Blog entry today.

I am speaking from the senior peanut gallery. The especially special memories are the ones I have stored in my heart. Sometimes my brain does not bring them forth, but they are there nonetheless. One beautiful granddaughter who when she and her two sisters slept over in sleeping bags in my living room, would stay awake long past the others. She would crawl up on the couch with me and say, "I love being with you, Grammy, and I love your couch."

Take that and add scores more and you will know what your little heart will do to fill you with comfort and cheer in the sunset of your life.

Prompt: "Christmas is the season for kindling the fire of hospitality." Write about this in your Blog entry today.

I wonder what life would be like if Christmas was celebrated in January. The cheer, comradery, and hospitality would set off the new year in a good place. Instead, we wait all year for the event. Many people I talk to see their families and extended families twice a year, ie: Thanksgiving and Christmas. The family reunions are filled with laughter and always good food. Why does this happen so seldom?

Physical distance is a huge reason. We didn't grow up and live in the same town with our relatives nearby. In my parents' generation, it was expected that grandparents would live out their days in an offspring's home. That habit is being revived as families combine resources and live together for financial reasons. I live with my daughter, son-in-law, and two of my grandchildren. It is a wonderful arrangement. I benefit most in that i don't pay separately for anything except my cell phone. It is a great financial arrangement for my daughter's household as well. I am safe and secure with the knowledge if anything goes wrong if I fall or something, there is always someone near who can help right away.

The other facet of holiday hospitality is demonstrated in the workplace. Parties and u like Skkecret Santa, midnight mass, and anticipation of Santa's arrival are on the holiday agenda. People, in my experience, are more open and caring at this time of year. Maybe it helps sweep out any bad karma from the past year. Or, maybe it is through gift-giving that broken relationships are mended.

Whatever the occasion during Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, or whatever the celebration, I am mighty happy to participate in every minute of it. Memories are the key to a happy senior year's life.

Prompt: Holiday Food
Most family or holiday gatherings are centered around food. What do you think of food during the holidays and does food affect your feelings about the holidays?

We have some traditional meals for a few holidays. On St. Patrick's Day, we have corned beef and cabbage. On Easter we have ham. On the Fourth of July, we grill hot dogs and hamburgers. On Thanksgiving, we have the traditional turkey and all the fixings including stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, candied yams, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin & apple pie for dessert.

For Christmas, we bake a honey spiral ham as well as a turkey. Christmas Day is so relaxing. We try to eat by 1 pm then graze the rest of the day.

Even if it is an ordinary day, our family visits always include food. On someone's birthday, they get to choose dinner that day. In 12 days I will choose homemade spaghetti, salad, and toasted French bread for my birthday dinner.

Prompt: expressions of love. In what ways can people express love and appreciation to others in their life?;

Every contact each day is an opportunity to express appreciation and love. On WdC it is mostly appreciation primarily through email. Thank yous for ordinary things like a review up to appreciation for going out of their way to help me. We currently have wonderful Santa Elves assisting me with anonymous appreciation notes to my Secret Santa. i have a list of those who are participating with the help and will thank them with appreciation.

Love can be tricky, Not with family. That is a no-brainer. We kiss and hug in my family freely and unconditionally. There are a few I have met here where I use the salutation of love. I tend to express love by buying something a person wants or could use, That is just the way I roll. Whether it was something for a yellow case person who needed basic goods after moving due to an impending divorce to surprising our wonderful Lilli with a physical gift I sent her from her WdC wish list. You never know who or what will come tomorrow. Today it is a new member I took under my wing for NaNoWriMo, sponsoring her writing. Our email exchanges are more and more loving. Writing to check on my health. Responding in kind, I wanted to buy this person a little WDC pin which cost $1.74 but $60 to ship. I will work around that because I want to express both love and appreciation.

I start out loving and appreciating people I like and become friends with. If it works out great. If not, any appreciation gifts were given for the right reasons and don't play into the downfall of a friendship. I really love the person drawn for me for my Secret Santa person.

I think people come in and out of your life at times when one or the other needs a hug or understanding of a situation. As that reason for becoming friends is no longer foremost, the underside may rear its ugly head and the friendship tank. It doesn't mean you love and appreciate the person emotionally but something comes up that spoils it. That all as part of this prompt may not fit exactly, but something I want to get off my chest.

In summary, I am a person who expresses love and appreciation at least one or more times each day. Since I have not read my email yet, I am confident those who have checked in with me will get some sort of acknowledgment that they are appreciated. It is no big deal to me because it is just the way i roll..

I am a night person. I often sleep in until noon, after finally nodding off around 5 AM. Today I woke up at 6 AM. I began to read and review. It felt good to get some stuff done so early.

I adjusted my attitude.

My best friend called me yesterday. She went to check on a neighbor she had not seen for a few weeks to be sure she was okay. The neighbor was unkind to her so she called me. If you don't have something nice to say, shut your mouth. That is the way I was trained. Poor thing did nothing wrong. The woman seems to be developing dementia and apparently did not even recognize my friend. The woman lives alone with a family member checking in occasionally. I hope they see her shortcomings and work out something for their loved one to stay safe.

Focusing on one friend has been wonderful. I don't have to worry about late calls at night or other intrusions. My friend does not do crappy stuff like that. Cutting everyone else off is great. My silence speaks volumes.
