In my view, the primary focus should be on encouraging the writers to write. I do not review items I don't enjoy anymore because I see it as a waste of my time. So, if you get a review from me, I enjoyed reading your work. The amazing thing about this whole process is that reading an inspiring review usually leads to me reading more of a reviewer's work also. So, it's a win-win.
I'm good at...
encouraging others to write because I love to read.
I will not review...
something I do not like. I do not enjoy writing hyper-critical reviews. I do NOT believe that "honesty" is a synonym for "mean." If I see someone being "mean" here on the public reviewing page, in group behaviors, or just acting as a bully I will not send them my reviews. The only exception to that would be judging a site contest - there all items get honest (and hopefully diplomatic) reviews of the work from me with no exceptions.

What brought the Hand of THiNG to your port?

*Ghost* You sent me an invitation to read and I am happy to do so!

What Does THiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* As someone who has been bullied and ostracized both on the internet and not, I could identify with Trawl's predicament and the prejudice of the mob of dwarves he worked with.

In your 5th paragraph from the top, second sentence, I think you are referring to a dwarf and not a troll, since Trawl is the only troll. So, it should say the nerve of that dwarf instead of troll.

What does THiNG applaud about while reading your item?

I like the message to give someone a chance before you make up your mind about them in a lot of ways. That is always a great way to go in my books, but sometimes when there is a powerful clique, it is hard to go against the wave of prejudice and closed minded thinking.

Fine storytelling!

*Ghost* I am doing the I Write in 2018 activity and you posted before me.

What Does THiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* Politics is pretty scary, but at least some of the economy is starting to crawl back. I don't think that the really talented people go into politics much, which is a shame.

What does THiNG applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite part:

"The trick or treaters
aren't scared off by politics.
And real straw men
still rule our Congress."

Kids are refreshingly honest and not prone to give false honor to politicians. Grownups can learn a lot from kids if they just listen.

Fine poem of the season approaching. It's my favorite time of the year!

What brought the Hand of THiNG to your port?

*Ghost* I am doing the I Write in 2018 activity and you posted before me.

What Does THiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea*Sometimes we just have to treat ourselves right. I think if we do not love ourselves than who will do it.

I never thought I would be called names by someone on a web site, but it happened. Then, I have to tell myself I am still the same person and I try to do the right thing. I know I never called names. So, maybe I deserve flowers too.

That is my logical thinking of the day.

What does THiNG applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite part of the poem:

"It was five dollar Friday
and the deal of the day."

Sounds good enough for me as a reason to treat yourself right. I might go get myself some roses today as I prepare for a hurricane.

Very uplifting poem about making a time positive when other things might suggest otherwise.

Well done!

*Ghost* You sent me a nice review recently so here I am to read and review.

What Does THiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* This is a poetic tribute to your home State of West Virginia. I am familiar with some of it, having grown up in Maryland, which is pretty close to Harper's Ferry and CharesTown.

What does THiNG applaud about while reading your item?

This is a State where neighbors have each other's backs. I'd say that's a pretty rare and reassuring thing.

This part was my favorite:

"Green mountains everywhere
Interrupted by nothing at all
Rivers of crystal water"

Fine work!

I clicked on the Read and Review option on the left side of the screen and it took me to your fine story.

There is a lot that isn't said here, but that makes it more powerful. As a reader, I felt that this was a reaction to all that transpired that day, but it clearly says that there is more to it. Maybe some people are more vulnerable than others or maybe it's a combination of things. We never know, not being able to walk in other people's shoes.

This part stays with me:

"The few windows still lit by a lamp were losing their glow to the brightening day."

A lot of days start like that, even the one in question, the one that isn't spelled out to the reader.

I found this to be a very moving story in what it doesn't say and where he chooses to go.

Very fine work!

What Does THiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* You definitely create a shrouded atmosphere of mystery with your well chosen words.

I like the title a lot, as I could picture the scene and remember the title as I read.

What does THiNG applaud about while reading your item?

The second stanza, where you keep to the 7 syllable count throughout is my favorite. The repeated refrains are quite haunting and effective in conveying what I see as a setting laced with suspense.

Very fine work with a difficult assignment - syllable consistency. Well done!

Review of Eventually
Review by ♥Hooves♥
In affiliation with Paying It Forward

I clicked on the Read and Review option and it brought me to this very powerful poem about grief. It was written in 2002, but the words are even more true to me today (after a number of losses) as they would have been 16 years ago.

We get told a lot of things about dealing with it as time goes on, this elephant in the rooms, but as this conveys, it's a totally personal experience and it can hurt even more to hold on to hopes of relief when it comes to missing someone. I do not know what the ultimate answer is as I am still a work in progress. Some days are definitely better than others in whatever this journey is meant to show.

This was my favorite section:

"Eventually
or so I’m told
memories will sustain me
bringing more joy than pain
and I will smile
whenever thoughts of you
come into my mind"

This reminded me that it took me years to even look at things like some photos. It's like everything happens when you are ready or the time is right, hopefully. Or it doesn't. And the loss is hard whether it is a violent death or a natural one. There is still an emptiness that cannot adequately be described.

The repeated refrain of "Eventually, or so I'm told" is very moving and effective.

Fine poem and I am sorry that you or anyone experiences this painful loss.

*Ghost* You sent me a very nice review recently so here I am to read and review!

What Does THiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* This is a romance that takes place in high school with a very popular boy and a shy girl named Aliya. They make a connection after both being called to recite a romantic poem in class. This was written in response to a Writer's Cramp prompt.

What does THiNG applaud about while reading your item?

This took me straight back to high school and I was cheering for her all the way. Good for him. You never know when a heart will emerge in the popular crowd. I saw it myself a few times way back when.

This was delightful and engaging all the way through. Love the youthful and innocence of the romance!

I read this a few times and it is amazing. You sum up a lot about the attitude we need to live these lives of ours.

*Cool**Idea*

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite part:

"Remember your life with happiness, shed no tears or cry.
Turn this hourglass over, there’s much you’ve yet to try."

You are probably aware that this poem reads wonderfully in reverse order (when you turn that glass over, in essence) I think that is an example of remarkably brilliant construction - to turn the glass over and read from last to first line and have it flow so well.

Bravo!

I clicked on the Read and Review option on the left side of the screen and was taken to your fine poem about a neglected and fading landscape. The imagery is stark and vivid as time has done its best to leave this world behind.

I spent some of my summers at an old farm with a gravel drive so this brought back some memories dearly held. It is sad to think that world is gone forever, but humans have made it so.

This part stays with me:

"and the ghosts of Dunkin Donut boxes
to slowly be assimilated into landscape."

We hope for better, but time takes its toll.

Very moving words - moving and haunting. Well done!

What Does THiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I thought the title was very clever given what transpired anon.

It occurred to me that this poor fellow could be in a world of hurt over another infraction - eating her dessert. It sounded delicious.

What does THiNG applaud about while reading your item?

I also suspected that her outburst could have a little jealousy behind it, although I too would cringe in horror at such a public spectacle. You cringe imagining it, but there's a Cinderella element there that cannot be ignored. Richard Gere and Julia Roberts sort of popped into my head there.

Given other considerations, I would also have to slap the hand of anyone who tried to tamper with or appropriate my dessert.

Very engaging and imaginative short story- it was amusing too as I could picture the whole thing unfolding from your words.

At what point does brother dear get a smack? My brother can be very annoying and is quite a bit older than me, but I would find a way to tell on him and/or smack him if he was up to this stuff.

This was my favorite part:

"I am tickled in the store.
I am tickled in the tree.
I’m tickled during dinner.
My brother likes to tickle me."

Brothers are fun when they aren't being annoying. So, there is a bit of fun here, but brother needs to be taken in hand by Mom & Dad, methinks.

I think it is always good to face what is sad, but have the strength to move forward after a relationship goes sour. It makes it easier if there is no hope of reconciliation. You draw your own lines that you do not allow people to cross. Taking oneself out of the equation is only the first step. You move on to going out and realizing that you have a lot to offer the world.

That is a positive, forward-thinking outcome. Nobody really wants a cheater, no matter who might have them temporarily.

Fine poem about getting it together and moving forward.

Told from the first person, this is about a detective who wants to get away from the horror he has seen at a crime scene. There is no better way to do this than going home.

This seems like a good start for what will no doubt be a longer story solving the mystery in the title. I think you hook the reader in very well. You might want to eliminate the big bit of spacing at the bottom, but you have laid out the main character very effectively.

Nice work and welcome to the site!

*Ghost* You sent me a very nice review so here I am to read and review.

What Does THiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* It is a very frustrating thing to want to help someone, especially when you are convinced you know what needs to be done.

The problem is that people like to handle their own things and resentment can come if you try to take care of someone for their own good.

I am totally on board with leaving it up to God.

What does THiNG applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite part:

"Finally, there’s only one thing left,
And it stands alone as a solution.
One must resort to prayer,
And ask the Lord for a resolution."

My Aunt Virginia used to say that she would turn her troubles over to God and that helped her to not worry. It is an art to be able to do that - to let go, but you have to let people live and make their own mistakes. It is how we all learn and grown, especially kids.

Fine poem!

*Cow*I am reviewing your item as a judge for "Rhythms & Writing: Official WDC Contest. Thanks for entering! *Delight*

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* Your protagonist, Ted, is a mathematician, who also has a deep faith in Christianity. He has reached a crisis point where he thinks his faith is deserting him, so he engages in time travel back to the time of Jesus, to somehow bolster his faith.

The song, to me, comes in where he is begging his faith not to leave him and saying "Don't Go", whether it be Mexico or any other destination. It's as if faith is making the decision to pack its bags for imminent departure.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I thought the ending was poignant and so sad. What had to be was preordained and Jesus, himself, knew what was coming next. It was a matter of faith for him, more than anyone I reckon.

And, in the end, Ted must return, but maybe now faith is his lifelong companion. That's where I ended up, anyway.

Nice work!

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* This is a story about protagonist named Keith, a man who, as the title suggests, is literally trapped in time. He tries different strategies in order to save his wife and no lose control of the situation. Even with varying scenarios, he always comes back to one thing.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I liked that his efforts are (even though he is not aware of it) helping with the advancement of Alzheimer's treatments. I think that in this sense your story is imaginative and him not being able to let his wife "Lara" go ties into the song. Each time, it seems, he finds different ways of trying to hold on to her. It never seems to turn out the way he wants it to, but maybe that is for the best in the name of scientific achievements.

I enjoyed reading your very creative story- well done! The title fits it perfectly.

*CakeB* HAPPY WDC ACCOUNT ANNIVERSARY FROM "Anniversary Reviews*CakeP*

What brought Hoovsie meandering in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow*I am reviewing your item as a judge for "Rhythms & Writing: Official WDC Contest. Thanks for entering! *Delight*

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* Your protagonist, Daphne Snot is on the prowl for a new husband, after being widowed. She is participating in an on screen interview, which is something that has got her into a lot of trouble in the past. The interviewer has designs on her current target, so they spar with a battle of wits. Daphne is not armed well to proceed.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I liked the details in this - of what she is thinking and of the surroundings. The asides about the late husband are pretty hilarious - lots of humor laced throughout. I like the way you incorporated the places from the song, also.

The title gives a hint of the hilarity to follow. Nice work!
