In my view, the primary focus should be on encouraging the writers to write. I do not review items I don't enjoy anymore because I see it as a waste of my time. So, if you get a review from me, I enjoyed reading your work. The amazing thing about this whole process is that reading an inspiring review usually leads to me reading more of a reviewer's work also. So, it's a win-win.

I will not review...
something I do not like. I do not enjoy writing hyper-critical reviews. I do NOT believe that "honesty" is a synonym for "mean." If I see someone being "mean" here on the public reviewing page, in group behaviors, or just acting as a bully I will not send them my reviews. The only exception to that would be judging a site contest - there all items get honest (and hopefully diplomatic) reviews of the work from me with no exceptions.

What I Thought About as I Read:

*Right**Leaf* I thought about how we should all cherish the things we love about the world. Buildings are very low on the list for me, too. Anywhere that animals are happy is beautiful because of that - the calls of nature I guess.

What I thought about when I grazed in your pasture and did I swish my tail?

*Right**Ghost* I thought about stopping to appreciate all that is good and memorable. Ireland was like that so sometimes I look at my pictures from there and just relive it.

*Right**Cool* I thought about grief and how solitary and endless it seems. Your imagery is striking and well thought out.

I found your title to be very moving and carefully chosen to reflect the theme of your poem.

What I liked best when I grazed in your pasture and did I swish my tail?

I have suffered loss like this where I had no clue and it adds to the guilt and the grief - the fact that I was in the dark when the time came to do something. I just had no clue.

Brilliant poem that captures a lot of feeling with some very eloquent and well-chosen language.

*Cool**Idea* I think you set the stage for mystery with the disappearance of the moon. Or is it three moons? Well, anyway, not being able to find it is a puzzle and maybe a harbinger of things to come when one's way is lost.

*Thumbsup* Kella is not alone in the underground. I think going away from the light is always scarier and it goes well with the theme of not being able to find the moon.

*Cool**Idea* I think your poem is heartfelt and moving.

What does HOOves applaud and moo about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* This part is timeless in its eloquence. It could apply to any graveside caused by war:

Sacrificed victims of their circumstance,
Spoils inhumed under the soil where slain,
And the flags waved on a hillside in France.

An Unusual Suspect of The Bovine Kind
What led me to meander into your pasture, wearing my trenchcoat?

*Leaf* You sent me some very nice reviews and here I am to visit you and to read and review. I have had some health issues that have made me slower than usual and I am sorry for that, but here I am!

What did I think about as I read your work?

*Cool* I could identify with the child's fear and sense of loss being overwhelming this time of year. My losses came as an adult, but you never forget that happening at Christmas time. It is a test of faith for those of all ages, to be sure.

What made me swish my tail and what made me stop and moo?

This is my part stays with me:

As Pricilla eased up to her momma’s side
She kneeled on her tiny knees to pray
"Lord above I ask you please on this Christmas day
That you let my momma stay here with me."

I was heartened that her faith was rewarded. That is how is should be when children ask and express faith that all will be well.

Very touching and moving poetry - well done!

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I wish I knew then what I know now. I didn't fully appreciate everything that was given so freely to me. It is a bit of regret and wistful reminiscence. And when health deteriorates we have time to think about things in hindsight, which is always harsh.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite part:

I yearn
for different journeys now.
A shaft of warm sunlight,
old choruses to sing.

Music really does help, doesn't it? I find that on difficult days it does wonders for the mood.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* This poem is about remembering a place you love.

I am horrified by what transpired in Pittsburgh. It is a monstrous thing, but you have risen above that with a wonderful remembrance of poetry. We think of our childhoods (if we are lucky) as safe havens. I thought this was remarkable and the words resonate with the cherishing of what went before and what is to be overcome going forward.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This part stays with me:

"I lay a spray of flowers
at water's edge.
I whisper prayers
for the Tree of Life."

May we all face the future with such gentleness and grace. Beautifully written and I am so sorry for the deed that was done.

*Cool**Idea* I thought about destiny and the inevitability of aging and death. We all get to a point and it is good that there is a graceful acceptance to the cycle of life.

There is sadness expressed, but also resignation and I take it as acceptance of what is to come. We all go there if we are fortunate enough to live long lives. It need not be a tragedy.

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* Autumn is also my favorite season. Over many years, it has come to represent different things and events as they happened. You very eloquently captures the things that one can usually count on with autumn.

This year, it has been bad hurricane storms. The leaves haven't really turned yet, but they will. Lots of trees down with this latest Michael thing.

The days really do get shorter so quickly. Now, I wake up and it is dark. The mail sometimes arrives in the dark. Lots of fun there with mix-ups.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite part:

"Sun surrenders to overcast skies
Leaves change from green to red
The days get a little shorter
The air gets a little crisper"

Yes and there is Pumpkin Latte to be had at Starbucks. All this is true and life is good because of the little things that we hold on to as the years go by.

Very moving and evocative of the most memorable things about the season.

*Cool**Idea* I thought about Autumn, which is normally my favorite time of year. My October 1 (your title) was a day of jury service. I would much rather have spent it thinking about my favorite season.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

I thought all your words were well chosen and very memorable.

This is my favorite part:

"They sit and shine
with wounded faces.
The ancestors talk. "

I never pictured relatives as jack-o-lanterns before but with some of the more gossipy type, it seems to fit. I found the comparison to be spot-on and memorable, which is what I look for in poetry. I look for something that surprises me and makes me look at the world in a different light. You have certainly done that with your eloquent language.

*Cool**Idea* I thought about how you guide people with a roadmap of sorts to setting up their own business. You have explored different options, enough to know what is free and what might be worth an investment.

This is written by someone (you) who has done this successfully. You cannot argue with the logic of that.

What does THiNG applaud about while reading your item?

I like how you help people and set out by sharing the example of your mother and her success in doing something she loves for profit.

Not into facebook myself, but I can see where it would be very useful now in starting one's own enterprise. It seems like there are a lot of things that you can do without having to pay a lot of money. For publishing, I have always dreamed of starting my own publishing company but I would have to win the lottery in order to do that in the way I want to do it. But still it is something that is doable and goals that are within reach are presented here in a user-friendly way.

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I am very interested in owls as harbingers of the future. I think that when we see them it means that something is about to change and they serve to warn us about impending mysteries.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite part:

"We stopped at the sound of the Frost Owl, not aware of its presence
Such a retching scream within the night
Shaking and frightened we hung on to each other. "

It is natural to be afraid and seek comfort in one's companion. Maybe the mission of the frost owl here was to bring two people even closer together by frightening them. You never know.

Very compelling poem - I could picture it happening as I read and a chill surrounded me.

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* A couple watch a movie together and get more than they bargained for. The wife interacts with the wife on the screen in a way that is terrifying and surprising.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

I like the way you have me questioning whether the movie is more real than the scene with Dennis and Barbara. Which is real is what I ended up wondering. Or are they both real and changeable?

The title brings us back to the terror of this Leonard who Barbara is warned about too late.

It was scary and if the power goes out and the DVD stays on, I'm headed out the door. Very chilling!

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* The most interesting thing to me is that you get what you need to read from the scriptures if you are open to it. The timing usually works out in order to learn and move forward.

In my own life, I have found also that things are revealed to me in their own time. So, I am learning to try to be more patient because I know that when I am meant to know something, God will show it to me. I guess that is faith, even if it isn't churchy and traditional. We still have it and we know a message when we see it.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

I think that social media is a very tricky place. You never know the whole story, but it sounds like you figure out a pretty good idea of what individual motives might be. If so and so is preaching to the choir and trying to be a provocateur, your logic makes perfect sense. It is designed to draw out and reveal certain things that most might not want revealed, but they are agitated enough that it happens.

I don't do Facebook and Twitter at all so I'm just guessing. I think when anyone gets in a public forum and bellows they have an agenda that may have little to do with what is really being communicated.

But that is just me, old skeptical pill, tHiNg. *Laugh*

I enjoyed reading this and I think that sensitivity and knowing what is real is a valuable tool when used in conjunction with an abiding faith. God will always show us the way if we are open to seeing it at the time.

What Does THiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* The title of this caught my eye because of "Buffalo" in the name. That is an interesting name for this area where you fished and vacationed.

What does THiNG applaud about while reading your item?

It was sad and poignant that this is a happy memory because your Dad's behavior was the way it should have been all of the time when you were on these vacation trips. It prepared you for life and understanding the pain of others, but that is still a hard thing, having to return to the inevitable behaviors that surfaced at homes.

It is good that you had at least one safe place and, as you say, this gives you understanding and compassion for the pain of others in similar circumstances.

I thought this was very well written and moving. Well done!

What Does THiNG think about while perusing your item?

I am not familiar with the song that inspire this, but I don't think it is a requirement in order to read and understand. I have seen alligators up close in South Carolina and I have much respect for them. After all, they survived what the dinosaurs did not. They are prehistoric animals, the oldest known ones on the planet. They survive through their ability to adapt to different environments and are very fast (deceptively fast) movers.

I think they hold much danger for humans and humans should respect their space when it comes to the fresh water they live in down south. People think they can out think these gators and that's where we go wrong. They can be evil, but most them (like humans) are just trying to survive.

What Does THiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I noticed that the emerald visions symbolized freedom. I see that too when I think about Ireland. Something about the green represents wide open spaces and freedom in my mind.

What does THiNG applaud about while reading your item?

I love that it is a choice. I have not figured that out yet - how to will a dream. When I do, it will feature a lot of clouds moving around and that lovely green you write of.

This part was particularly moving to me:

"And so I creep into the clouds of my mind
to seek, to find. "

To do it happily and without fear - once that is achieved then control is there.

What Does THiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* As someone who has been bullied and ostracized both on the internet and not, I could identify with Trawl's predicament and the prejudice of the mob of dwarves he worked with.

In your 5th paragraph from the top, second sentence, I think you are referring to a dwarf and not a troll, since Trawl is the only troll. So, it should say the nerve of that dwarf instead of troll.

What does THiNG applaud about while reading your item?

I like the message to give someone a chance before you make up your mind about them in a lot of ways. That is always a great way to go in my books, but sometimes when there is a powerful clique, it is hard to go against the wave of prejudice and closed minded thinking.

What Does THiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* Politics is pretty scary, but at least some of the economy is starting to crawl back. I don't think that the really talented people go into politics much, which is a shame.

What does THiNG applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite part:

"The trick or treaters
aren't scared off by politics.
And real straw men
still rule our Congress."

Kids are refreshingly honest and not prone to give false honor to politicians. Grownups can learn a lot from kids if they just listen.

Fine poem of the season approaching. It's my favorite time of the year!

What Does THiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea*Sometimes we just have to treat ourselves right. I think if we do not love ourselves than who will do it.

I never thought I would be called names by someone on a web site, but it happened. Then, I have to tell myself I am still the same person and I try to do the right thing. I know I never called names. So, maybe I deserve flowers too.

That is my logical thinking of the day.

What does THiNG applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite part of the poem:

"It was five dollar Friday
and the deal of the day."

Sounds good enough for me as a reason to treat yourself right. I might go get myself some roses today as I prepare for a hurricane.

Very uplifting poem about making a time positive when other things might suggest otherwise.

*Cool**Idea* This is a poetic tribute to your home State of West Virginia. I am familiar with some of it, having grown up in Maryland, which is pretty close to Harper's Ferry and CharesTown.

What does THiNG applaud about while reading your item?

This is a State where neighbors have each other's backs. I'd say that's a pretty rare and reassuring thing.

This part was my favorite:

I clicked on the Read and Review option on the left side of the screen and it took me to your fine story.

There is a lot that isn't said here, but that makes it more powerful. As a reader, I felt that this was a reaction to all that transpired that day, but it clearly says that there is more to it. Maybe some people are more vulnerable than others or maybe it's a combination of things. We never know, not being able to walk in other people's shoes.

This part stays with me:

"The few windows still lit by a lamp were losing their glow to the brightening day."

A lot of days start like that, even the one in question, the one that isn't spelled out to the reader.

I found this to be a very moving story in what it doesn't say and where he chooses to go.

What Does THiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* You definitely create a shrouded atmosphere of mystery with your well chosen words.

I like the title a lot, as I could picture the scene and remember the title as I read.

What does THiNG applaud about while reading your item?

The second stanza, where you keep to the 7 syllable count throughout is my favorite. The repeated refrains are quite haunting and effective in conveying what I see as a setting laced with suspense.

Very fine work with a difficult assignment - syllable consistency. Well done!
