In my view, the primary focus should be on encouraging the writers to write. I do not review items I don't enjoy anymore because I see it as a waste of my time. So, if you get a review from me, I enjoyed reading your work. The amazing thing about this whole process is that reading an inspiring review usually leads to me reading more of a reviewer's work also. So, it's a win-win.
I'm good at...
encouraging others to write because I love to read.
I will not review...
something I do not like. I do not enjoy writing hyper-critical reviews. I do NOT believe that "honesty" is a synonym for "mean." If I see someone being "mean" here on the public reviewing page, in group behaviors, or just acting as a bully I will not send them my reviews. The only exception to that would be judging a site contest - there all items get honest (and hopefully diplomatic) reviews of the work from me with no exceptions.

Review of A Matter of Faith

What brought Hoovsie meandering in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow*I am reviewing your item as a judge for "Rhythms & Writing: Official WDC Contest. Thanks for entering! *Delight*

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* Your protagonist, Ted, is a mathematician, who also has a deep faith in Christianity. He has reached a crisis point where he thinks his faith is deserting him, so he engages in time travel back to the time of Jesus, to somehow bolster his faith.

The song, to me, comes in where he is begging his faith not to leave him and saying "Don't Go", whether it be Mexico or any other destination. It's as if faith is making the decision to pack its bags for imminent departure.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I thought the ending was poignant and so sad. What had to be was preordained and Jesus, himself, knew what was coming next. It was a matter of faith for him, more than anyone I reckon.

And, in the end, Ted must return, but maybe now faith is his lifelong companion. That's where I ended up, anyway.

Nice work!

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* This is a story about protagonist named Keith, a man who, as the title suggests, is literally trapped in time. He tries different strategies in order to save his wife and no lose control of the situation. Even with varying scenarios, he always comes back to one thing.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I liked that his efforts are (even though he is not aware of it) helping with the advancement of Alzheimer's treatments. I think that in this sense your story is imaginative and him not being able to let his wife "Lara" go ties into the song. Each time, it seems, he finds different ways of trying to hold on to her. It never seems to turn out the way he wants it to, but maybe that is for the best in the name of scientific achievements.

I enjoyed reading your very creative story- well done! The title fits it perfectly.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* Your protagonist, Daphne Snot is on the prowl for a new husband, after being widowed. She is participating in an on screen interview, which is something that has got her into a lot of trouble in the past. The interviewer has designs on her current target, so they spar with a battle of wits. Daphne is not armed well to proceed.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I liked the details in this - of what she is thinking and of the surroundings. The asides about the late husband are pretty hilarious - lots of humor laced throughout. I like the way you incorporated the places from the song, also.

The title gives a hint of the hilarity to follow. Nice work!

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* Your protagonist, a female private investigator is determined to find a couple for her own reasons. She pursues them on a journey to many places that she knows that they frequent, being jazz lovers all. She finally catches up to them, but just locating the couple is not all she has in mind.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This is a tale of relentless pursuit and revenge that ties in well to the song.

In the end, Victoria gets her way and a great deal of revenge also. Very intriguing tale with action and character revelations. Victoria remains a mystery to me as to why she did not know her quarry on sight, since in the end she obviously knew them so well.

Very interesting mystery to unravel. Nice work.

*Cow*I am reviewing your item as a judge for "Rhythms & Writing: Official WDC Contest. Thanks for entering! *Delight*

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I thought of the Odyssey and of taking a journey with no guarantees at the end. Two people can love each other throughout time, but if they cannot be together than what is the point of living. This was a fantasy with battles that were nobly fought for sides that, at the end, have no real meaning. I took that as a metaphor for war and maybe the end of the world as we know it.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This part that Kaye says ties in so well with the song:

"If you leave me, then please leave the World, for I cannot bear to be alone with you still in it."

The idea of her going far enough away to ease the pain is similar to what I hear in the song. Go far enough so that it doesn't hurt. That place really, in the end, does not exist, but the courageous friends carry on the best they can.

You have crafted a very moving and well written tale. Well done!

What brought the Hand of THiNG to your port?

*Ghost* I am doing the I Write in 2018 activity and you posted right before I did in the forum.

What Does THiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I think that the title fits perfectly.

I had not thought about the power of water and how it moves, but it can devastate the landscape. My niece lives in Houston and they had water come up through the floor in the last hurricane. I never knew it could do that. It shouldn't be allowed to to that because it takes away a certain false sense of security that I dearly want to hold on to.

What does THiNG applaud about while reading your item?

The words you use convey the power, along with the majesty of flowing water. I hope it never sets its sites on yours truly.

Great word choices to convey the imagery that is so powerful.

Well done!

I clicked on the Read and Review option on the left hand side of the screen and it took me to your very moving story about two people who connected in WW II and never lost touch.

I was particularly moved by the reverence with which Pieter treated the tulips and how in wanting to be with the Americans, he found a way to be close to his friend again.

Very inspirational and well written story! It is amazing what has been written for Writer's Cramp prompts over the years. Well done!

What brought the Hand of THiNG to your port?

*Ghost* You have made a wonderful new campfire for us and I decided to send a review!

What Does THiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I am very much looking forward to this. I will be thinking about it today and writing tomorrow when I am fresh. For some reason today my thoughts aren't organized as I would want them to be. I am tired for some reason, but I hope to be fresher tomorrow.

What does THiNG applaud about while reading your item?

You always set it up so nicely. I love the quote you have selected and the fact that we can use each other's quotes or go for a different one. Now, I will be putting my thinking glove on. I use quotes a lot as a Writer's Cramp judge (for prompts) so this will, no doubt, help me with doing that.

Great idea for a new campfire, Megan! Well done! *Heartp*

I clicked on the Read and Review option on the left side of the screen and it took me to your fine poem.

The line in this poem that gives me pause is the second one:

"not like hers"

That says so much without spelling it out. The writer is getting over something and cannot help making a comparison. Even though "you" is the title and at first glance refers to the new love, that one line makes me believe that in the end, "you" is about getting over a difficult breakup.

Very powerful poem that is eloquent and moving. You don't have to use a lot of words in a poem or in its title to say a lot.

Well done!

I clicked on the Read and Review option on the left side of the screen and it took me to your fine poem.

I read this as two people who are drawn to each other, but shouldn't be. The reason for the hesitation isn't spelled out, but it doesn't have to be. There is an attraction that cannot be hidden or denied.

This last section, though, is so powerful:

"We could never disguise this depth,
As anything more shallow."

Something so strong is dismissed here as shallow. It seems at first to be a contradiction, but then I read it as more resignation at what must be, but shouldn't be.

My reviews are reactions to what I read and are not meant to be detailed editing suggestions.

I enjoyed reading your poem very much and reflecting about it.

Everything should happen with the ease and grace of the night turning into day. I especially like how you begin and end your poem with the same line - book ending it in fine fashion!

This was my favorite line because of the way it rolls off the tongue when you read it aloud:

"With much grace and perfect ease
The day rolls in on a gentle breeze."

Sounds like the perfect day in Spring or Fall. I'm ready for it!

I think a lot of readers will readily identify with this expressed sense of loss and the resolve to move forward and carry on. That is what is brave - trying again and picking up the pieces. No one has a perfect relationship, anyway.

This is my favorite part:

"Live day by day
Survive the storm
Fears to slay
Begin a new norm"

It is not an easy thing to do, but it's the only thing that makes sense and takes courage.

I clicked on the Read and Review option on the left side of the screen and it took me to your aptly titled poem.

The relationships that burn the brightest at the beginning, have a long way to fall back to earth.

This passage sticks with me:

'A desire like dew -
Hanging onto the edge,
Waiting to sadly but inevitably drop.'

It is as if it is all preordained or something. The ending 2 lines is perfection, also. I bet that will have a great deal of meaning and bring pause to a lot of readers.

Splendid poetry - well done!

I clicked on the Read and Review Option and it took me to your poem about not writing a poem. I guess this is what is called plausible deniability.

If they (assuming they are real) like it, you own it, if not, then no problem.

Love can make any of us crazy, but the desire to love and be loved is very normal. Still, it is good to put a sort of wacky spin on it at times.

This was my favorite part:

"You make me lose control
recalling darkness in my soul.
I see your face and call to you
but I don’t know your name."

It is all about control - getting it and keeping it ...well...controlled.

Very thoughtful poem. I am a hand now and not that bull.

A jealous girlfriend (Gina) makes a couple of errors in judgment and ends up breaking in to spy on her boyfriend. She thinks he is cheating and wants to retrieve and delete an email she has sent in anger. Her anger is only increased by what she sees in his computer, all based on a certain number of erroneous assumptions.

Things get turned on their head when she realizes the true nature of her boyfriend's other relationship. The twist at the end was entertaining and unexpected.

Very entertaining story! You pack a lot into a very short tale!

I clicked on the Read and Review option on the left side of the screen and it took me to your fine poem.

The title, "Shrunk" refers to what the individual does to oneself by limiting choices and exposure to the dangers of the world. The statement is made that this wouldn't be the person that the writer knows so well.

I thought this was very moving:

"When the possibilities become so few,
It can’t hurt -
Not that much."

Trying, knowing how awful the world's reception can be, is a very brave move indeed. We all wrestle with demons, but those who keep trying are a special kind of brave.

Very fine and moving poetry. You say a lot, using a few words.

Well done!

What Does THiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I think that sometimes the memory of love missed can be just as strong, if not stronger than the actual emotion of the moment spent together. You capture the feelings of longing and the pain of things not done so well.

What does THiNG applaud about while reading your item?

What brought Hoovsie meandering in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow* You sent me a very nice review yesterday so here I am today to read and review!

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I think that we all go back to what we loved musically in our youth. A lot of the stuff I hear now sounds like noise to me, so I'm with you there. But sometimes, I find gems in that noise, like with Green Day and with this group Jump Little Children.

I am totally into Celtic music and old sixties and seventies stuff. That is because I grew up with all that, but I do enjoy some Elvis and Frank Sinatra, not to mention Dean Martin on occasion. With Soundtrackers we used to get to post about our favorite music and a lot of people were open to hearing new things. What fun that was.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This part made me smile:

"I hear that some folks like these modern boys
But all I hear is loud obnoxious noise."

My Dad, who loved Bing Crosby, used to say this sort of thing about everything I listened to, including The Beatles. I just think we all enjoy the music we grew up with and someone else's noise is my beautiful melody.

Very fine poem. I could totally identify with the sentiments expressed!

I clicked on the Read and Review option on the left side of the screen and it took me to your profoundly moving poem. This is about being neglected as a child and being farmed out to relatives to be raised. In the best of circumstances (when the other relatives are kind and caring) this still does damage.

There is a path to forgiveness, but it means admitting that one was in the wrong. A lot of self-absorbed parents have a hard time getting to that one. I think it takes a lot of years.

This part sticks with me:

"Now the person is no longer demonic-
just a scared little child...

emotionally younger than the descendent."

So, the roles are truly reversed. How fitting and tragic at the same time.

Very eloquent and moving.
