This is a wonderful short story and I believe I would list it as such (its now appendix)!
A heartfelt write and your intensity to describe her and her love for reading shows that perhaps you feel perhaps somewhat involved in her loss during the end of school.

Perhaps its the rhythm that distracts me a little.

I have never attempted this style or even knew it was there to be tried. However I might try it one day soon.
You really paint quite a picture with your words and it shines in these words and that is why I consider trying to write in this particular style. You inspire and show that there are other styles other than the nursery rhyme variation that I attempt to use.
