interesting concept here.... dreams are friends whether they are good ones or not so good ones. I think it is because no matter how bad the dream, reality can be worse.
This was a good story, it's fun to imagine someone who is taking it into her hands to reduce the amount of crime in her area. It's also a little scary. Vigilantism is dangerous in literal terms as well as metaphorical. Crossing the line into actual criminal activity is a risk. I did enjoy the read, and it was nice she got her 'Alfred'. :)
I felt the nostalgia as I was reading. Yearning for warmer climes than Maine (I lived in Jackman for 5 years), missing someone with the use of something you had enjoyed together. Lovely poem, thoughtful and morose, at times. Thanks for sharing!
There was some powerful imagery there. I totally get the ropes' significance, at least in my interpretation of it for my own life. My father was abusive (not neglectful) but the hurt and fear translate the same way, I think.
You packed quite a punch of family background for Holly, mother wanting to erase her past, recklessness of the cousin Calvin. It all rounds our Holly's character. However, Sheldon seems a bit too angelic. There are good men, don't get me wrong, but he seems a bit 2 dimensional.
Very enjoyable read.. that son really likes to push buttons. LOL, I like to read books and texts and newspapers too. and I DO end up black almost every time. Kids nowadays really do not get the sensual quality of feeling, smelling, seeing literature on paper. I love the rustling of the pages, the crisp paper beneath my fingers. Thanks for sharing.
This was a welcome introduction to the history of Father's Day. I never realized that it was so long in the celebrating. I always wondered about the origin, but it's nice to see it wasn't started as a Hallmark Holiday. Thanks for sharing. :)
I lost my father when he was 47 years old and I was 21. I miss him, still.
You most definitely found the answer in balance. It takes most of us a lifetime to realize the truth of this. I will be 56 in March and I am now just getting a sense of it. This was a fascinating read, I'm glad to have found it. :)
This story was very well-written. This was a warm nicely addressed family crisis. I was very pleased to read it and was eager to read more. It took courage and determination for Russ to get back involved with the family... especially since both family members were needy.
Thanks for sharing and bringing inspiration into the picture.
I am so sorry you went through all that, I was abused by my father, but I was never sexually assaulted. I did turn to drink as a poor coping technique for all the terror and fear I lived through. I have now been in Alcoholics Anonymous for 4 years. I also have children and I refuse to let them suffer what I did.
I pray for your emotional recovery. Thanks for sharing. BTW, if you look at the portfolio in my profile, I have written a few pieces that address some of these issues.
It was an interesting subject, but I found it stilting to read. It didn't have a good flow. Some of your words are misspelled or misused (What IS trife?) I, also, think you meant "Pail" not 'pale'. I am an early writer, just started, but this was my take on things. Thanks for sharing!
Lovely description of winter ferocity on the oceans. It flowed well, the haiku didn't seem forced. I love to write short meaningful pieces of poetry with a whole lot of meaning and depth. I can just see the ice forming and joining the rough water.
I read some very interesting metaphors in this piece. It was vivid, colorful, and had wonderful imagery.
I, too, have had those moments of loss and anguish. The descriptions of comparing nature alongside your relationship were elegant and thoughful.
This was a well-written work that showed a mindset about working and getting ahead in the United States that is truly disturbing. People are desperate for work, so they are willing to backstab and get ahead by any means. There is a deep abiding wish for people to work well, but enjoy their work while doing it. This person clearly felt no such pleasure.
Great read, flowed nicely, it seemed to flow easily.
Thanks for sharing.
I love the anthropomorphizing this reading demonstrates. Loan sharks, sheep, and all the fairy tale references to other 'wolf stories' are too funny. Thanks for sharing!
This was a fun read. It flowed well and involved multiple people without being too crowded. It figures... takes a woman to notice what the change in appearance was. LOL Thanks for sharing.
This was totally fascinating! I never thought about pigeon handling as being exciting before! I appreciate the effort you made writing this. Thanks so much for sharing. :)
It is clear enough to me she has Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I understand about that. It is a very passionate representation of enduring grief and regret. Thanks for sharing.
I loved this piece. My daughter is now 14 and she still talks to me, too. Of course, we do get into arguments, but she does ask questions. This was well written and well played out. What a blessing it is for sure!
This has some very strong memory images. My grandmother went through this and one summer I stayed with her and watched her fade. Really strikes home. Thanks for sharing.
