This week's theme is current playlist.
I tend to like listening to inspiring Christian music and 1980's popular hits. So for Friday (a day late) I will go with an old favourite from a band I absolutely loved as a young teenage girl. Sometimes I cringe thinking about how much I loved this band. I had a crush on Simon Le Bon, the lead singer.
They are still playing as a band today, but my interest has matured. I still like their sound, but I am not the obsessive teenager I once was... thank God.

Happy Weekend Everyone!

30 Day Blogging Challenge - Day 8

Are you ready for some time in the sun, and some r and r? We've got snow and rain coming here for the next week so I'm wicked excited to slip away to an island. Only 1000gps Hello Montego Bay!
https://www.royaltonresorts.com/royalton-white-sands
You're going to love this luxury hotel. We're going to be here for the weekend so don't stress about sight seeing. We've got time. Enjoy the 83 degrees temperature. Curl up with a book under the cabana.
https://www.royaltonresorts.com/royalton-white-sands/explore/thing-to-see-do

Now this is more like it. Caribbean delights! Sun and fun. Back to living in my bathing suit! Heaven. I video of the hotel was wonderful to watch. The beach, the pools, the comfortable rooms, the nightlife. All in one place. Jamaica is one of those places that staying on the resort is the best thing to do... Although Dunn's River Falls was a blast when I went there (many years ago).

The craft market in the heart of Montego Bay could be a treat as well... if I could bear to be away from the beach for a bit. Maybe I can convince Lyn's a Witchy Woman and some of the others to join me.... its safer in numbers.

The weather around here has been crazy. Wednesday they closed the schools for an ice day. Freezing rain. I so hate freezing rain. Northern Ontario does not have freezing rain, though the pictures my friend, who lives in South Porcupine (Near Timmins) make me glad we don't have that much snow! She can just barely get her car in the driveway. The snow is up past the railing of her front deck.

Raw Emotions week.

Now to kick a** and take names.... Christine Aguilera, anyone?!!

Fighter - Christina Aguilera

This version has the words -

We must be thankful for the good things in our life, but we also need to be thankful for those things not so lovely... we learn from all our experiences. Negative experiences can be brutal, but they teach us the most, I think. To be stronger and more vigilant. Thick skin can also be an asset.

Christine Aguilera is a tough, strong beauty with brains and guts. I raise my glass to her.

Raw Emotion week continues.

Landslide - Dixie Chicks version

The passage of time is what gets me in this song. I know it was originally done my Stevie Nick and although I love her voice, this version has a better feel for me.... probably because I heard it first. I can harmonize along to it. I love doing that.

I am running behind on my postings... this is Day 5 for Raw Emotion week.

Who Am I (Rosemary's Grandmother) - Jessica Andrews

I love the chorus on this song. My grandmother was Annie, not Rosemary, but all the rest is actuate. I also love the show that this is a theme - Sue Thomas - F B Eye

In an interview, Jessica Andrews says "In a 2001 interview, Andrews explained that she recorded the song (which was written by Brett James and Troy Verges) because she felt that its lyrics were especially fitting to her own life: "Everything is so true in that song, except that my grandmother's name is not Rosemary. It's about believing in yourself and being supported by those around you. No matter how many mistakes you make, your friends and family will be there for you."

Raw Emotions week...
So today is February 4. I am enjoying listening to all this great music. The hard part is picking only one song for each day. So after some thought, I decided to go with this one:

I Hope You Dance - Lee Ann Womack

No sitting on the sidelines... get up and dance. I love the words to this song. I also love Lee Ann Womack's voice. I also enjoy singing the lyrics to this song at full volume.

“I Hope You Dance” was written by Tia Sillers and Mark Sanders.
Sillers explained that she was going through a painful divorce when she wrote this song. Said Sillers: “For ‘I Hope You Dance,’ I had written the opening line, ‘I hope you never lose your sense of wonder. I had just broken up with someone, going through a brutal divorce. I needed to get away, so I went to a beach on the Florida Gulf Coast. Sitting on the beach and reflecting about the breakup, I felt so small and inconsequential. But out of this difficult time came the inspiration to write ‘I Hope You Dance.’ As I was leaving the beach, I remember thinking that things weren’t really so bad, that I would get through it. That’s when I came up with the line, ‘I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean.'”
This song is about taking chances and not being afraid to try something new. That speaks to me.

1000gps may seem steep to you but once you see what you're getting for your ticket today. We're going to the super bowl in Atlanta, Georgia.
I cant say I'm excited about the Patriots being there but we scored a Mercedes Benz and Delta Sky Club.

https://mercedesbenzstadium.com/seating-types/club-seating/mercedes-benz-and-del...

We're going to meet Adam Levine, he's heading the half-time show at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. That's the best part for me, hanging with Adam.
Talk about your plans for the super bowl or if you're not a fan talk about something you are a fan of like maybe Adam Levine or Gladys Knight she's doing the national anthem.

Stuper Bowl... oh, not a fan. Adam Levine and Maroon 5 - yeah, I am a fan. I actually missed the half time show, but did watch the last 5 minutes of the actual game. I am know watching the Cat Bowl. Lyn's a Witchy Woman you would probably love that show. I watched the kitten bowl this afternoon. I love the stories of happy adoptions.

So here's what I missed...

Raw Emotions week - Dance With My Father Again - Luther Vandross

Given that today is the 40th anniversary of my Dad's death - he lost the fight against cancer in 1979. I have chosen a song that leaves me in a puddle every time I hear it. I would love to have time with my father again.

Well, today's destination is a lot warmer and it's only 500gps for the pleasure of Tampa Bay's 74 degrees.

https://www.tampabay.com/visual-arts/top-things-to-do-in-tampa-bay-for-saturday-...

Take your pick on what will entertain you the most or do them all. Monster Trucks or Florida's Got the Blues or head over to St. Petersburg and hit the beach for the seafood festival or maybe Bush Gardens and take in the Real Music series at the amusement park. You'll need to be at the airport by midnight so have fun!

From the Frozen north to the sultry south…. And I love Bush Gardens. But there is also the beach…. No polar dives there!

At 9 am there is an hour of free yoga in the park... Crescent Lake Park. That sounds like a great way to start the day and get my body limbered up after the last few months of cold winter tension. I am sure I can get a few people to join me - joybride what do you say?

The St. Pete beach Scavenger Hunt runs from 10 am until 2 pm. could be an interesting way to spend the day and learn a little bit about the area. Grab a buggy or scooter and joining the "Living la vida Local" scavenger hunt has stops for photos, experiences and historical education at piers and villages along the beach town. I like the idea of being down by the beach with something to do.

Then on to the St. Pete Beach Seafood and Music Festival which starts at 11 am and runs until 10 pm. Get to the beach for the second annual festival with fresh seafood, other food items, drinks and live music by Kettle of Fish (rock, blues, reggae), CeCe Teneal & Soul Kamotion (blues, soul, roots), the Billy Rice Band (country rock), Reverend Barry & the Funk (soul, funk) and the Bob Marley Tribute Band featuring Yvad, formerly of the Wailers (reggae) (Saturday). This sounds like a good time and I am sure there a few other music lovers in our group. I think I could convince a few of my blogging buddies to come along.

Meanwhile in Canada....

Emotionally Raw... what draws out the emotion everytime you hear the song....

This song always makes me think of my father. He died 40 years ago on February 3, 1979. I am a 'living legacy to the leader of the band'. I cry every time I hear this song. I am his legacy. His blood runs through my veins and he lives on in my heart.
'And papa I don't think I told you I loved you near enough'... I was 12 when he died and the one thing I regret, is not remembering if I ever told him I loved him. I think he knew, but it was never said out loud.
This song was released in 1981.... the time I was still healing from my father's death. He had had cancer.

Happy Groundhog Day.

https://www.tripsavvy.com/quebec-winter-carnival-1481819

We're beginning our first adventure at Quebec's famous winter carnival. It's been cold for a while now so most of us are acclimated already. It's only for the day so let's have some fun. We'll need to be at the airport by 11:00pm for our next location.

Today's 50/50 ticket price is 500gps.

Oh, how fun. Quebec City will be tremendously cold.... It is currently (Jan. 31) -20 degrees C with a wind chill of -29 degrees C... so that is warmer than here in |Kitchener (-20 degrees C with a wind chill of -30 degrees C) {and yes, they will be getting +4 degrees C and rain next week, just like us!) These Canadian winters keep you on your toes.

Apparently, we are going on February 1, but the Carnival does not start until the 8th. With any luck the hotels will still be reasonable. I have never been to Quebec City. It should be fun. I'll need to brush up my basic French. If anyone has been to Quebec, you'd know it feels like a completely different country... even for the rest of us Canadians. All signage is in French only. (Ontario and New Brunswick have Bi-lingual signage). Exit....sort of (sortie)

I am eager to try ice skating at one of the outdoor rinks or even try the skating trails through parks. I will need to rent my skates as my old ones have suffered from age and the boot has separated from the blade.

I also want to try the ice slide which opens at the back of the Chateau Frontenac along the Dufferin Terrace. For $2, we get a wooden toboggan to lug to the top. Apparently, it is quite speedy on the way back down. I got my Twoonies ready.

The good news is that Quebec City cold is mostly a dry cold and doesn't have the wet bite that other famously frosty cities have - like where I currently live. This is a blessing. I prefer a dry cold. I grew up in Northern Ontario with a dry cold. Just be careful not to sniff too hard or your nostrils will stick closed. *Laugh*

I would also love to check out the ice hotel. I am prepared to take a tour and have a cocktail before heading back to a warm hotel with a Jacuzzi bath! I am sure there may be a few crazy ones in our group that want to stay overnight, but I would rather not waste my money and wind up freezing.

I am not sure who is planning on coming along for this trip. I expect Lyn's a Witchy Woman will most definitely be there with her usual warm charm and effervescence. She really is wonderful on these trips. I expect she may want to do a little shopping and I am curious to explore the Old Town shops. We won't be sitting out on any patios, but a good Canadian beer or some local spirits might help to warm us up at one of the local establishments.

There is hope in this song. It is a song I listen to to remind myself I am not alone. God will always love me, even if no one in the world does.

It's the last day of the official competition, and the last War Chest Wednesday, so it's only fitting I repeat this prompt from November. Write a list of at least 5 blogging prompts to add to the Challenge War Chest to be used for future rounds of the 30DBC. Then, use one of your own prompts to write your entry.
1. What is your favourite book of all time. Why? Can you remember how you discovered it?
2. Was their a person from your past who really contributed to who you are today? A teacher, relative, friend? Who are they and what did they do to make that significant contribution?
3. What decade of music do you find the most inspiring? Why? What were the songs that you loved?
4. What kind of music do you listen to? Why? What is your favourite and why?
5. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go? Would it be a vacation or to live?

I will answer number 4. I love to listen to Contemporary Christian music that is more along the lines of popular, not the gospel stuff. I find it inspiring and very similar to the popular music I used to listen to when I was younger.

Allow me to share this quote regarding my local weather this week: ”Dangerous wind chills of -45 degrees F (-43 C) to -65 degrees F (-54 C) are expected for most of the period from Tuesday night through Thursday morning. This is a life-threatening situation...” etcetera, etcetera... stay inside... frostbite... etcetera.

My question for you has two parts: What is the worst weather you’ve experienced? And what is your ideal weather?

We had wind chills of -32 degrees C yesterday.... but by 10 pm it was -5 degrees C. I went out and shoveled without a coat.... but then I am partially nuts. There was no wind chill so I was 'balmy'.

-20 degrees C and the students can't go outside. -35 degrees C and they cancel the buses. -40 degrees and they close the schools.
Tomorrow is supposed to have a wind chill of -32 degrees C... but by Sunday it will be +2 degrees C. Welcome to a Canadian weather! Or rather Southern Ontario Canadian weather.

As for the worst weather.... I would have to say the day they closed the school in the northern Ontario town I lived in. I had to walk backwards in order to breath and when I got to school I realized they were closed. They had never done that before. I had to walk back home. My mom made it all the way to work before finding her office had also closed. Served us right for not listening to the local radio station. We were probably the only two people walking around outside that day. I can't seem to find the actual details. The historical weather only goes back to 2009 and this day I remember was around 1975 or so.

Ideal weather.... not super hot, but not chilly either. I'd say sunny and warm with a temperature of around 24 or 25 without a humidex. The perfect summer day.... or even a spring or fall.
