You are what you write. Illusion and Reality...I reside in between. Where are you?
UNDERSTAND THAT REDIRECTING CIVILIZATION is a major undertaking. You can write volumes about it and who will listen? But the energy that goes for that purpose cannot be withdrawn. You know that.

"I love the phrase why is that" says David Feldman, the author of the "Imponderables" series of books. David believes there is no question too obscure or too broad to answer. For me, I am basing the prompt question more in the terms of the intersection between your creativity and your knowledge.
Blog City Prompt: What do you understand about this universe of ours that few others realize?

I know that if you have a clear, unquestioning belief about the Universe, things you think will happen. Not necessarily the way you planned (you should not plan), but there it is, accept or not. The Universe provides. Whatever you believe that's what happens. If you don't believe, then to make you right, nothing works.

Creativity comes...or it doesn't. You can not force it. Some people struggle and fight against themselves to be creative. Relax...daydream, take a break...suddenly the thought occurs. There it is! A creative idea, thought, the right words or image.

Many times I get a clue or a fast-fading vision from a dream that starts me off on an idea. The moment you wake up you must reach for the paper and pen, because it won't be with you for very long.

Isn't life wonderful?

Blog City Prompt: Let's have a bit of flash fiction...short story of no more than 50 words.
Our topic is a hair cut or style gone awry. Let's see what you can come up with
.

The military barbers have no sympathy. They took handfuls of his thick, curly blonde hair and pulling it tight from the scalp, ran the powerful clippers through it like a knife through butter. His youth fell in clumps around him and to the floor. The fine clippers finished it off at a quarter inch, no less. From a distance the blonde did not show and he looked shaved. He didn't feel like a man, but they yelled at him that he would be in two painful weeks.

Some of us have had that experience.

Peace...>>>iggy*Boat*

Blog City Prompt: What items do you put on your walls? Posters, pictures? I am curious.

I used to have walls with paintings (mostly mine), now they are in storage as I am on a 45' sail boat that really doesn't have blank walls. There are registration with Port Authority, Rule & Regulations, Captain's License, Radio License, GPS, Radar, and lots of small, narrow windows. The desktop on my computer has more stuff than the walls of the boat.

I love big walls and big paintings. Maybe someday that will happen again after this adventure is completed. I also like theater production posters and movie posters. I have many year's worth rolled up in a trunk in Wyoming (waiting for a wall).

In a lot of folk's homes, I've noticed that a very big television screen sort of replaces the primary visual, and the same in the bedroom. And in the meantime, their eyes are filled with visuals from their tablet or phone. Walls are not important and they used to be. What a world we live in!

In a lot of Caribbean homes, the walls are large windows with views of the sea and gardens. That is beautiful as well.

Something else just came up: The FCC will vote Thursday (02/26/2015) morning to reclassify the Internet as a public utility. While this drastic change is being sold to the public as a solution to ensure net neutrality, the end game is total control. Be aware of how the walls are closing in.

To each their own...>>>iggy*Boat*

Blog City Prompt: "Life is a book and there are a thousand pages I have not yet read." Cassandra Clare Do you agree with this?

IF life is like a book, then when you are as old as I am, how many pages have already been read? And yes, right now I have about a thousand pages between the two novels I'm working on right now. And they are going to have to be read more than once!

Outside the novels, real life is a page turner. Every time we take the sailboat out into the ocean, the pages get a little damp. Ha! Everything in this world feels temporary right now, so the pages of life are blank until they're turned.

I see some people who don't even read their pages after they are turned. Unaware and half asleep. Sad.

Check out all your new pages...>>>iggy*Boat*

Blog City Prompt: What do you think about thinking itself, in general? Do humans think all the time?

When a human is alive, their brain is active at some state. The idea of thinking or thought is a very broad subject.

When someone asks, "What do you think about writing?"

is different from, "What do you think that writers think about?"

Or "Do you think that you are a writer?"

"Do you think you know better than others?"

"Why do you think that?"

Each one of those questions sends your brain off into another mass of remembered material, opinions, experiences, likes, dislikes, hopes, dreams, fears, secrets hidden, and on...and on.

And then someone says, "Think again!"

Day dreaming and imagining are very creative parts of thinking for writing. This is different from thinking about non-fiction, which is about what you already know as facts.

If I say, "I think you are wrong." And you say, "Well, if you thought about it, you'd think differently!" Where do you think we are then?

You see it is endless, but so much fun!

Think about it...>>>iggy*Boat*

" In my view a writer is a writer because even when there is no hope, even when nothing you do shows any sign of promise, you keep writing anyway.”

Blog City Prompt: What makes a writer a writer in your view? And accordingly, do you agree with this quote by Junot Diaz?

Well it seems to me that a person whose writing appears hopeless will still realize some benefit from that expression of personal freedom in the activity of writing. For some folks, thoughts get more organized and even recognized when written down. Diaries and journals fulfill that ;purpose.

I've kept journals for years, and they're certainly not writing for anyone to see. It's just daily life notes

I guess it's no different from a person who likes or feels the need to talk a lot. Then look at the explosion of 'selfies'---personal photos (usually not very good) published on the social networks and FaceBook. Personal expression is a human need, yes?

There were 304,912 titles published in 2013. And think about this: E-books now make up around 30% of all book sales. So thousands upon thousands of things written and we know that some of them are hopeless and never read. Go figure.

Just think, more people read this blog than have read my published books. I keep writing and know I'm getting better. Besides that, I love it!

Non Prompt Blog Post

This was a dream I had this morning early. My feeling is that they were really old guys who had a life of financial crime and were living hidden away in some tropical location. This was my SMS conversation with one of them.
- - - - - - - - - -

>SNAP - SURPRISE - i think you know my sudden appearance is a warning. time catches all of us eventually. you guys had a good run and enjoyed some of the fake dollars you processed. just be aware the PTB are now coming for you. stay where you are and it is over for sure.

>Hey Cottel, is that you? Long time no hear. Where you be?

>far away from you. and never in the same place - unlike you dumb SOBs. why you still there?

>You know us. Comfort comes first. Besides we get to see the grandkids once in a while.

>how many?

>G. has 15 I think. And a couple of the older ones have babies of their own. I have four. My daughter had twins. Most beautiful!

>well you better say goodbye and move out fast. that's all i can say.

>Cottel, you're a good friend. Thanks for the warning, but we're not moving. G. and B. both say they are finished with running. We're all too old and creaky to do any of that kind of traveling.

>what about the houses?

>What about them?

>don't you want them? last time we talked there were four or five locations. you want to give all that up?

>Already have. Sold everything but this old home port. Made a trust for the kids, and I guess spent the rest. You know how we are.

>ok my friend. when the suits arrive be gentle and maybe they will give you a break.

>Ha!! That will be the day. We're ready to go. I knew our time is short.

>i'll be thinking about you all. bye and god bless.

Goodbye Cottel, and thanks for the warning.

Blog City Prompt: Friday the 13th, also known as Black Friday in some countries, is considered an unlucky day in Western superstition. What's your take?

I believe that folks who usually have negative thoughts and expectations will attract more of the same. Friday the 13th is a perfect way to prove their bad luck. Victim mentality.

Black Friday is an American and British super shopping day coming immediately after Thanksgiving and launching the Christmas selling extended season. The name originally came from the idea that on that day retailers profits would finally turn 'into the black'. I'm not sure that's been true for all this past season as more people are laid off and some companies declare bankruptcy.

In history, the number 13 has many times been considered unlucky. And how many buildings do not count the thirteenth floor. Thirteen guests at the table could mean that one will die. On Friday, 13 October 1307, hundreds of the Knights Templar were arrested in France, possibly giving rise to the fear of a curse on that day. The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci shows thirteen diners and the thirteenth is Judas.

So today it is a beautiful, sunny day in Belize. We'll see how it goes. I think it might snow in Boston.

If you believe...take care...>>>iggy

Blog City Prompt: It was a dark and stormy night. What happened?

It was a dark and stormy night. Thunder rumbled in the distance. Maybe it's going to rain, I thought. Summer storms are so unpredictable. The rain gutters on the south side of the house rattled. More thunder, maybe a little closer. I think the wind is coming up.

Then a big gust of wind hits the house rattling windows. I could hear dry leaves and sand blowing against the glass of the french doors to the patio. A brilliant flash, much closer, sends me to my feet. A sharp crack sends me into a panic. There is a sickening crunch as a tree limb must have fallen on the roof. The dancing shadows of leaves and branches appear in the lightening flashes across the sheer curtains.

I start toward the doors to see the damage, when all the lights go out. Darkness surrounds me. I can feel my heart rate go up. I shuffle my way into the kitchen, fumbling for the utility drawer. The flashlight is heavy, sturdy, been there for years. Slide the button. Nothing! The batteries are dead. More lightening illuminates the rooms for a second or two. The dark is inky black. I feel my way back into the living room, bumping into the couch. I drop the useless flashlight.

The rain strikes with a heavy vengeance. Driven by the wind it streams across the windows. A brilliant flash, the air is alive with static electricity. Bang! The strike is very close! This is not good. Rain on the roof fills the house with an ominous rushing sound. A torrent of water is falling out of the gutters making heavy splashing on the patio bricks.

Another blast of roaring wind and one of the french doors blows into the room with a crash. Glass shatters and wood cracks as the rain pours through the opening across the floor. The wet rug and broken glass reflect the almost continuous lightning of the electrical storm. The sheer curtains billow wildly up into the room like so many writhing ghosts. I cover my eyes, falling onto the couch..

I curl up, pulling the quilt over my head and wait, listening to the drips and hearing the water flow across the floor as it soaks into the wood and carpets. The couch is an island. The house creaks as the overflow splashes around the foundations. The wind whistles under the roof. Will it ever stop?

The next thing I know---there is utter silence. I think I fell asleep, because I don't remember anything more. I know babies do that when they're stressed. I was stressed! I know this had to be one of those dark and stormy nights we always want to write about, but never want to really experience.

I guess I'll have to write about this storm. That'll be easier than trying to clean up the mess.

Happy dreams...>>>iggy

Blog City Prompt: Anais Nin said: “Something is always born of excess: great art was born of great terrors, great loneliness, great inhibitions, instabilities, and it always balances them.”
Do you think emotional excess is necessary for creativity and writing?

Absolutely! Great art has always come from fear, love, loss of love, terrible secrets, vengeance, jealousy, revenge, triumph over adversity, and on and on.

Milder, gentler creations are appreciated, but not always considered great art. Then there is humor and comedy that brings a smile or a laugh. Sometimes more important to well being than all the dramatic stuff, especially for children.

The other element within creative art is whether it is truthful. Excess for the sake of trying to achieve greatness is not cool. Especially when the excess is deliberately employed to influence book sales and ratings. Tacky! (Has Madonna lost her mind?)

The volume of material that is published is beyond imagination. What the agencies and PR firms think up to promote their product usually has little to do with reality other than to create desire. You might say we live in a world of created illusions.

A successful fiction story is an illusion that feels believable and credible. One of the keys to great art, I believe. If a story can carry your imagination along, you might not even realize the talent and skill that put your mind there.

Can you see behind the illusion? Can you create illusion?

Write on...>>>iggy*Boat*
