I'm the lead editor for a small independent press, but I am on maternity leave for the next several years and thus not accepting submissions. I'll tell you my professional opinion on first chapters or short pieces and whether I would have accepted it or rejected it if I was looking for work. I've dealt most with controversial speculative fiction, and I'm most interested in polyamory a.k.a consensual non-monogamy.

Someone I once knew who had a child with autism told me that neurodivergent people are our shamens, but we've stopped listening to them. I wish I knew how to help you unfurl those wings, but I have no idea.

This was quite a funny piece. I find it even funnier than I would have in years past because I'm breastfeeding my toddler and I'm open to keeping that up until he's five since that what our species evolved to do. That's why our baby teeth start falling out around six, after all. Breastfeeding is also the only way I can get him to sit still while I'm reading to him, so the benefits of breastfeeding extend beyond mere nutrition.

It's sad when I let myself think about it too hard, but that is just the culture we live in.

Your writing style has a classic fantasy flavor.

Try avoiding forms of the verb “to be” such as am, are, is, was, were, etc. This is known as passive language. Using more colorful verbs can greatly strengthen your writing.

I've had some of the same experiences myself, though I've seen that men deal with their own list of problems. The Y chromosome is essentially a broken X chromosome, so men on average wind up with more health problems because their only X chromosome isn't balanced by another one.

I like to imagine myself as this person to a few people, though I don't think I can ever be sure. More often than not, they left me. I believe I could have been monogamous if my first love had stayed with me, but I had to leave room in my life for him, so that's why I became polyamorous. I don't like saying goodbye.

Example: He was the embodiment of mimicry --> He embodied mimicry

I like the message behind this story. I feel that people who excessively use movie quotes are mimics and not letting their true identities shine through.

I feel called out. The thing is that being settled gave me the opportunity to reproduce and give my child a loving home. I still dream my dreams that are far too grand in scale, but I don't see them as abandoned and waiting. If there is any purpose to them, they will breach the aether and serve the dream world, which may in turn come back to serve humanity.
