"A Trip to the Carnival" is a short tale of the terror one feels or imagines when one is alone... The writer tells of the realization of "terror" when the noise of hundreds of people suddenly turns into a feeling of "aloneness" because of the silence... What do we do in such a situation? Do we cry out? Do we panic? What are our options?

This tale, however, tells us that "We are the hopes and dreams and future of all people gone from earth." Somehow, I tend to believe in such a "hope"...

Is the tale, "A Measured Response", a message to those who read it? It did send a clear message: be careful what you have; do not push its use to its limits because you may get hurt!!! By golly, what a way to lose one's life!!!

In our humanness, we tend to want to know what we have and own; and we also tend to forget that learning the use of something we "find" may bring us "bad luck", as in dying... The writer had a most clear-cut way to show us in her/his message... I salute this writer...

"God, What Can I Do For You?" advocaates two principles that a human can do: ask God what we can do for Him, and learn to treat another as much as one does to oneself. These are two reasonable ways to be a good human... In the meantime, I would instead ask a "neighbor" if I can do something for her/him, whether or not he is sick, in good health or just another human being because God did say: "Love thy neighbor..." and by "loving one's neighbor" we are already doing something for God...

Review of Not This Time

"Not This Time" gave me a surprise. Should I concluder the boy lied to his father or shall I conclude that the boy has learned a way to get something he wants without creating any suspicion from his father? Somehow, I think the boy has learned a way to get what he wants, not realizing he may have to face his father when the truth of the money loan comes out...

"Synopsis of Viewpoint 911" tells of a Jess Black who tried to find her husband, Simon Black, who was believed to have died in the tragedy of 9/11; with the help of PI George Washington Stanley, who was supposed to be an investigator who did not believe that a case he investigates "is never closed."

But of course, the tale stops at that point; and as readers we will never know whether or not the investigation into the missing husband is every completed...or we can surmise that Simon did die during the 9/11 tragedy...

This tale is short and to the point. Every single word used became part of the story of the death of one Simon as well as Jess' part as the wife who unfortunately lost her husband...

"Faulty Transmitter" tells of a child who found an electronic contraption, and with curiosity, the child, of course, begins to press buttons, causing things to happen and happen it did, to the distress of the mother... Is there a lesson here? Maybe...

Review of Nelida

"Nelida" tells of a new mother's thoughts after she gave birth to her daughter. It relates the love and the hope that a mother wishes for her daughter as she grows up; of the many wonderful things that a new mother would actually want for a daughter. For a comment, I think this mother has gone overboard with all the many wonderful things she wants to do for a daughter; and it is not really odd because mothers do go overboard when it comes to their children...

"Bill: In Honor Of" is a great tribute from a student to a teacher. In our every day life, we learn many, many things from others who are willing, able and patient to help and aid us in our learning; and giving tribute to them is one way we express our gratitude ...

Review of Man of the Forest

"Man of the Forest" tells of a New Guinea orangutan that was captured through subtlety, and was compared to Americans, who apparently have dependened on buying cheap products from "foreign manufacturers" that cause the depletion and weakened "our monetary value". This is indeed a sad realization, that should give us thoughts and strength to find ways to return to farming and endeavor to produce more American products...

The idea behind this work is excellent. America has become "cheap" and we must learn instead to be aware of "the bucket of gin at the base of our tree."

As I read "The Elevator encounter", I realized that the "little boy" character did not seem eager to join the others who were just about ready to join the trick-a-treat crowd. In fact, the boy "sidled closer to his mother" when he saw the different characters of the children in the elevator, and he was heard saying, "This place is scary!" when the elevator emptied.

This custom of children dressing up and going from house to house, collecting candy, is one of the joyful activities children just love to do. However, this one little boy did not seem to want to join in. I wonder why?

The discovery of a character's mistake in not realizing that the "husband" she wanted for herself was actually another "killer" like her

"The Not-So-Hidden Truth" is a tale of two killers in the shape of a woman and the man she wanted for herself as a husband... Are there people like these two in our world today? I wonder...

"Following Stupid Orders" tells of an employee who deliberately disobeyed an order by the boss. Realizing the mistake, the character realized later on the stupidity of disobeying, with the final words: "If you're ordered to do something ridiculous, it's best to do it. You can ponder the stupidity afterward."

It surely is a good advice...

Review of The Turkey

"The Turkey" is a light tale of one male turkey escaping his fate, and in meeting a girl turkey who also escaped from her fate. They became friends, and in their hunger, they found a field of corn where "they celebrated and had dinner together."

I had a good laugh as I read this short work. I wondered, though; is it possible turkeys know and realize they were purposely raised to be eaten? Of course, if I am a turkey as well, I would do the same thing...

"The Trouble With Brothers" is a light tale about family gatherings. In family gatherings there is always a time when something new developes among the families. And it is like that when families come together. Then that certain new thing becomes a memory that brings about the meaning of family reunions...

Review of Empty Spaces

"Empty Spaces" tells of one person's thoughts of "suicide comes a pain that can never recede." Depression drives the character to think of suicide although in his own words the character admits that "depression I am in is not too much - it can be beaten and ebbed".

Suicide is one of the problems that young people of today are facing; and the depression that leads them to commit suicide may lead to "a tsunami of sadness that would never be able to be drained in the aftermath." If a young person thinks that way, maybe she/he will admit to what the character in this tale has concluded...and perhaps seek help...

Review of The Letter

When I finished the review of "The Letter", it dawned in me that the purpose of the letter that had yellowed with "cracked edges" was obviously a warning. Even as "Harrison" admitted he wrote it, and then questioned himself how he could have written it in "1847?" What a surprise he got though when he found himself "in a pasture, a bull's nose in my face" when he did not believe the message in the letter... and instead entered the chamber...

Sometimes in our humanness we tend to reassure ourselves that we know what to believe, and to learn after all, that we should probably think twice before jumping into something we ought not to do... This "letter" was inspiring...

The "Talking Heads, not Thinking Ones" has brought up an example of how television news has brought about an "influx of new and disturbing visual content"; and how it is possible for an adult to provide children "the greater experience and reasoning skills of an adult" in relation to all the "dramatic events" delivered by network news.

In a way, the tale brought out an encouraging thought about children because television news have become frightening and maybe all these disturbing events may affect children as they learn all about "disturbing" "network news".

Review of The Note

"The Note" relates about a pickpocket who thought of "getting sentimental in his old age", not realizing that reading a short note practically made him realize that he stole something special from an old man... Jem, the pickpocket, was a man who stole and was not bothered at what he did. He was a pickpocket and to him there was the need to steal and that was all. However, finding a note in the wallet he stole, he was bothered by his conscience...and as result, he became aware what kind of a person he has become...

I realized as I reviewed this tale that no matter how cold and hateful a person becomes, there is always one little incident that makes one realize of how evil one becomes...

Review of Clair De Lune

As I reviewed "Clair De Lune", I realized it is the author's way of remembering of a Mom... It is a worthy memorial, as it is always one, when it comes to mothers. We remember mothers because they are part and parcel of our lives; and because without mothers our life may not reach the potential of our dreams... Great for the author, to write this tale; and maybe many more writers would write extensively for and about mothers...

Review of Moonlight Terror.
Review by elephantsealer

Rated: ASR | (3.5)
"Moonlight Terror" is all about fear and terror in the night: about cars going 50 mph; about "wondering who would be next"; if "their life would be speared for another night"; or "it was only a matter of time", ending with "My time, I believe has come. But I can't tell my son how sorry I truly am."

I wonder why a mother should feel sorry...was she the cause of all the terror in the night? The tale gives no explanation of what the terror is all about ... although there were "chains rattling" in the night, and a need "for extra padlocks of the basement." The fear for life seems to be the overall theme of this short tale although in the end there is not a thing a mother can do but feel sorry for her son...

Review of Wartime winter

The idea behind the "Wartime winter" is the lovely thought of a hope for the ending of winter, that would mean the "sun will shine" to keep the character and her child warm and safe until the time "daddy will be home". It is a huge hope, and a wonderful thought for the return of warmth... This is a lovely work of art...

Review of Modern Warfare
Review by elephantsealer

The idea behind "Modern Warfare" is the creation of human fighters who would be trained to "conquering death and their fears of death" which in turn would be able to "combat the machines of other countries with renewed courage and confidence." I wonder, though, if this horribe way of training soldiers would encourage men to become soldiers????

War is a word that should be erased from the minds and thoughts of humans because there is no future to it; no sense at all in subjecting humans to become machines... Maybe we should just create "fighting machines"????

This short tale of "My Best Friend Bacon" is all about loving an animal, and of the wonderful feeling of having a friend. Through the story of the boy and his pig, my review of the tale led me to realize that writers do have a way of moving a story that brings memories of events in the past; and how the past may belong to the future because of memories that lingered...

This is a wonderful tale of childhood, a memorial to all childhood that create in readers a second look at our past...

Review of Tell Me the Truth

This short tale between a dog and a cat made me laugh. The cat mewed as Mike came into the room where the two animals were talking, gave a meal of salmon to the cat, and at the same time, warned the dog not to eat the "cat food". In response to the situation, the dog, possibly felt left out, decided after all to tell the cat she is fat...the dog made a turn around, possibly to let the cat know he was not going to take the "insult" that the cat managed to secure by just mewing...

This situation is possibly a scene that happens between two animals, not to mention two individuals, who live in the same household...Jealousy/hatred, where is thy sting?????
