I love the personification of spring as a joyous spirit infusing every flower and blade of grass and calling on our spirits to join in its hopeful energy. This poem abounds with beautiful imagery of flowers, cherry blossom and the countryside. The scene is pictured in a meaningful and musical way that suggests the busy, happy character of the season.

The love of nature and its beauty is clear in this poem. A distinct and friendly voice is given which makes it like reading someone’s thoughts as they enjoy nature and I like the direct address to the reader to encourage them to enjoy the forest too at the end of the poem. A musical feel is created by the use of rhyming couplets, adding to the aural images of the waterfall and sounds of animals like birds and a rabbit scuttling in the undergrowth.
Did you mean spooky noises or spooky noices in the first stanza? I’m not sure what noices means.

A lovely poem capturing the special charm of sparrows. They are cute and friendly birds familiar to many as garden companions. I love how you linked them to a deeper spiritual meaning at the end of thie piece as the happy sparrow flying free reminds us of God's creation.

A thoughtfully and poignantly expressed piece about the special significance that butterflies and birds offered you on a spirital level. The connection between the butterflies, birds and different family members who had passed on was meaningfully expressed and offered a comforting sense of those loved one who passed on watching over us with special messages for us conveyed by the wild creatures. The butterfly images move from when you were a small girl and your dad wrote you a poem to the present day. The butterfly tornado is a fantastic image and beautifully conveyed in your writing.

I liked the blend of descritpions of the natural world with imagery relating to art in this piece. The description of the colours of the waterfall using colours like charcoal grey for the shadows and lavender and gold for the sunlit areas shows attention to detail and a true artist's eye. The short lines mean I took in the meaning of each word deeply and I liked the natural feel of the loose rhyme scheme.
What a lovely painting of the waterfall accompanying this poem -- did you or someone you know paint it?

This is a poem full of deep meaning that captures many beautiful sights in nature, from the sunrise to the sunset and the beauty of flowers and birdsong. The short lines and stanzas make each word more impactful as the reader pauses to consider their meaning. The link between nature, humans and God is well expressed here.

What a fantastic and powerful story about how a Native American tribe were saved by the spirit of a Great White Buffalo. The story captures how close the Cherokee people are to nature so well and it was nice that an animal spirit came to protect them after all their close links to the natural world. I liked the character of Singing Sparrow and how she got her name. The story felt very real with all the historical details of the white soldiers taking the Native American tribe to prison and treating them badly. The tornado and how Singing Sparrow and her tribe escaped added a lot of drama and I was riveted as I read about the escape at the end.
You missed out 'had' before done here: Rumors were going around from the three white men the Chief and council members done fur trading with.

What a beautiful story about a special friendship that came out of a frightening time. The older lady was very self-reliant and kind and I was pleased when she won through and not only beat the virus but helped a man with a family to recover by offering her place in hospital to him. The appearance of his wife with mangos and letters of thanks from the man's children at the end was heartwarming. The action and characters are well described and this story held my interest throughout.

A lovely poem that has its own special sense of music perfect for musing on Aslan’s song. I think a song is a wonderful way of calling all creation into being and I’m sure that even if Moses wrote of creation being spoken there was music in the words.

I enjoyed the format of the story like a series of diary entries. It was sad in the movies that Elizabeth and Will had to live apart but the children and Will’s rare visits bring Elizabeth comfort. I wondered what she did after the end of the movie so this story does a great job at filling in the gaps in a very believable way.

Sheriff Sam Rabbit was a fun and memorable character. I enjoyed his desire to prove himself as sheriff and pride at becoming sheriff, being such a young rabbit. He had some adventures and scrapes, such as saving the baby wood mouse from the ravine. I enjoyed how he never gave in despite not knowing exactly how to find Kat the Rhyming Rat’s rhymes. In the end all works out well and Sam earns some carrot cakes, plus the thanks of Mayor Squirrel!
The blurb worked well and the characters and pace was great.
I wondered about adding more chapter to split the story into shorter sections? Some children have short attention spans when reading a longer story and often find chapters more fun as they can break off and come back to the story.

I loved how you picked up on the everyday idea of a shadow that most of us never think deeply about, transforming it into a character who is controlled by the persons whose shadow they are. They follow her, moving like a puppet in tandem with her movements, their shape distorting. At the end of the piece, a memorable cliffhanger is given as the shadow plots revenge!

This is an uplifting poem about the friendship between a horse and a fairy. The story is told in verse and has a lovely conversational tone. I loved the ending when the horse discovers his friend is actually an angel in disguise and she turns him into a unicorn.

This is an interesting piece that brings a spiritual element to nature. I enjoyed the description of watching the birds on a spring day and how this leads to you musing on what if the creatures were the dead returned to watch over the places they knew. This creative idea would make a good story.

An interesting format that reminds me of letters to and from you and Hooves. I hope you are both a lot better from your different illnesses now. I enjoyed the talk of the coronation and royals and of animal friends lively cat Bella and Plutotje dog.

An interesting and well written story about an unusual pet. I like how Timmy chose to keep coming back to you and the descriptions of him slowly exploring the yard and eating the vegetables and bugs that you found for him. I was sorry he was probably confused by the building work and didn’t come back one year.

I wholeheartedly agree here, everyone doing key work professions is as much a hero as soldiers, sailors and pilots and they need celebrating too! The poem lists vets, nurses and firemen and specifically focuses on COVID times when we realised how much we need people in this professions and they put their lives at risk to care for others. The ABAB rhyme scheme gave the poem a memorable and musical quality.

What a lovely, heartfelt message to Duke capturing so many special characteristics that made him himself. There are many good memories showing what a caring boy he was, things he loved and didn’t like, plus funny moments like when he ate an entire loaf of bread!

I loved the ending where you compare the mixed and sometimes confusing weather to Dickens’s stories as they can be long and confusing, happy and sad. The last line about Dickens knowing something more than us was a neat touch. It is March in the UK and mixed weather with some snow and cold wind, then the sun comes out, so I can appreciate the descriptions of the weather from bout yourself and Charles Dickens!

This poem is excellent, the mood so moving and poignant. The emotion of loss and how precious little Caleb's life was is captured well. The poetic form and language are used deftly to add to this effective piece. I found the ending of the poem particularly sad about aching with an absence from a life the family has only just begun to know. I am very sorry for your loss of Caleb at such a young age.

This poem shows a deep bond with Big Jack, a special cat. His life is described in loving detail, from the moment he arrived as a stray and all you did to give him happiness to his passing. The poem is a great way to capture these memories, RIP Big Jack.

Review of In Memoriam

This piece is a moving tribute to the seventeen people lost on NASA missions in a short space of time. As well as focusing on the loss of colleagues and family, the piece captures the dreams and zeal that inspired these space pioneers. The way it is written with a roll call made me feel as if I was present at a commemoration event as I read it.

What a wonderful story told from the point of view of the daughter of a 1920s star. The story revolves around a lovely mother and daughter relationship that felt very real, and also timeless. However, the other main element of the story set it firmly in the glamour of the 20s. Music, cars, perfume and hairstyles were talked about. Having a star for a mum was both wonderful and odd as the mum in the story appears in papers and not everyone is kind about her flapper persona. The girl takes it in her stride and both mother and daughter are supportive of each other.

What a life for Mary Boleyn full of expectations, betrayal, jealousy and loss. She certainly had some ups and downs! In the end, I guess she was the lucky sister as if she had stayed with Henry VIII he might have beheaded her as he did her sister Anne.
